This scene was about Ragnar's obsession with England and it's land. In series 3 when he learns that the settlement that he was promised by the king of Wessex was massacred, he never cared about anything else but re-establishing what would become the Danelaw. Throughout season 1 Ragnar is saying the same thing to Rolo. He tries to explain how he wants to see a country with different god and land that is easily farmed. Ragnar explains in a massive scene after the attack on Paris. He didn't want to be Earl, but others decided that he would be, he did not want to be KING but others decided that it should be. All Ragnar wanted to do, was be a farmer and resettle on land that would make life easier for his people. The exact same reason and conversation Bjorn has with him in this scene. Ragnar was not sad in this scene at all, he was happy that his sons, especially Bjorn, decided that they wanted more from life. He died a proud father and king. If you missed that, then you never truly understood Ragnar's character at all.

Bjorn left kattegat as a boy came back as a man fought beside ragnar and fought against rollo travelled Mediterranean sea fought against rus vikings. Bjorn is a son farmer ragnar and others are the sons of king ragnar. Ragnar and bjorn never wanted to be earl or king

Bjorn was the only one that looked like one of Ragnar's sons. The other ones are too clean and well kept. ... like their mother.

Thats why Ivar was the best he understood Ragnar better than the brothers and he was the youngest and the most looked down on.

I love the vikings. I thought this scene was sad for Ragnor even if he deserved he's sons turing him down.

I miss Ragnar and his crazyeyes.

Can see the discomfort in Ragnars face at the word Paris his defeat and broke the camels back. A shame he felt he lost all because of this he should have accepted the defeat and learned from it good men learn most from battles lost not battles won he should not ran away and left his sons and people no matter what his people believed in him and respected him. Ragnar was - as smart as Ivar, as powerful as Bjorn, as kind as Ubbe , as handsome as Hvitserk, as crazy as flokki, as simple as a farmer, but as charismatic as Ragnar. I would say he is even more than that in Vikings.

One of the reasons why I support Ivar, he's the only one willing to help his father before going after his ambition. You can see Ivar's frustration, sadness and hatred after Odin delivered news about Ragnar's death. That's why he hates Bjorn, Bjorn acted like Ivar was ruining Ragnar's legacy. Bjorn neglected Ivar's sadness when his mother got killed and used Ragnar's death as an excuse to save his mother from Ivar's justice. Fck Bjorn.

Ragnar's return always makes me sad because you can tell his era was coming to an end and this scene perfectly showcased that. His sons all grown up now no longer wanted to go on adventures with him unlike in their youth only Ivar understood the importance of going on one more journey with Ragnar and that to me shows why Ivar is the natural successor of Ragna, he understands things other people don't pick up.

When Ragnar came back we only wanted 1 reaction Bjorn. And we got it when Ragnar pauses at the door and just says I'm proud of you.

Should have gone to the Mediterranean idk if they did but that was the right move.

I think a part of Ragnar was disappointed that they didn't follow. Another part respected that they were no longer boys clinging to his memory and wanted to pursue their own goals.

Well our vikings forefathers did sail down to the now known middle-east. Even in Denmark today can we find old treassure of yor, that originates from the great middle-east. Our fighting men, were sold or hired as kings gaurds or frontline fighters even for those who live so many miles away as long they got the gold to pay. And the tale of Rollo is true. Our vikings forefathers got land in the northen France to help them and stop more vikings raids down to Paris.

All of Ragnar's son had an essential trait of Ragnar in them. Björn had Ragnar's Leadership, Ubbe had Ragnar's Wandering spirit, Fitzherk had Ragnar's drug addiction problem, Ivar had Ragnar's intelligence, and Sigurd didn't have any qualities of him as such so they killed him lol.

People think Ragnar wanted England as revenge. That’s not what he wanted. His ambitions were so simple nobody could understand them, not even his own sons. From season 1, all he had ever wanted was land that everybody from all religions could call home and live upon in peace. In the end, England became what he wanted.

Obviously Bjorn doesn't realize that England is on the way to the Med!
