@@duncan3998 well china is a socialist country, so the mind of people is "help others and you will be helped" while US is capitalist country and so the mind of people is "help just your friends and relatives, everyone else is a possible threat" you can notice this behavior in more socialistic countries too, and that is why people on the western side of planet seem more unfriendly, because its majorly capitalistic there. democracy is a bit different from capitalism however, you can notice many democratic countries have people with similar behavior to socialist ones, since in pure democracy, people seem to care about money and what benefits them, but also about other people, since helping others can benefit them also.

They are very important. Imagine how filthy the city would be without them. Here in Europe garbagemen (those who go arond with the truck and empty the trashcans, once a week) receive very nice salaries. It is recognised as an essential service.

I don't know from which part of LATAM you're talking about, and I won't say generalize as I have been to all countries... but as a native Brazilian and having visited Colombia, Venezuela and Bolivia, I'd argue on the contrary, that we're very much in favour of solidarity and a sense of community here. At least in Brazil, sharing as little as we might have and lending assistance to others in need are values so deeply engrained in our culture that we have many popular sayings that involve just that: "Onde come um, comem dois" - "Where one eats, two can eat as well". "Um copo de água não se nega a ninguém" - "Don't deny anyone a glass of water". If you want to see true individualistic people, try Northern Europe... I only had bad experiences there. 😅
