I agree -- would like to know what he thinks about it. I've heard various viewpoints on just the pricing alone, along with whether mining is a positive or negative. I built a PC several months back near the end of summer (2017) and decided to keep it "entry level" -- since it was baby's first build, I was worried I was going to fuck it up somehow and didn't want to somehow regret sinking more than what I had already put into it, especially since I was so new to everything. I had a set budget and well ... I went red. I got the RX580 8GB, 1500X, with 16GB. Yeah, yeah ... AMD bad, AMD ew, _insertAMDvsIntelarguementhere_ and etc., etc. .... but I can't deny that it's done really well for the type of gaming I mostly stick to (ENBs with heavily modded games on very high/ultra settings -- FO4 for example), but I'm kicking myself. The initial build I was really drawn to was Intel-based with a 1080ti. The GPU was definitely priced higher, way out of range for my original budget for a GPU. Any time a lower price would crop up, it would sell out instantly or you would have to be very wary if it was used heavily for mining. Same goes for the 1070, which was next in line for me. Even the RX 580 had been hit with the prices, but was still much cheaper in comparison to the others. I gave into the forum chatter when asking for help where the lines "It's your first, don't worry about going all out, you can upgrade if you want at any time as long as you have compatible parts in play...the 1080 demand will go down, it'll be back in stock in time, give it about 6 months and you'll see a price drop or you can wait until something new comes along to get it when prices get easier" were thrown my way and I decided to just give in to my impatience. I could've saved up another month or two and been able to get what I wanted for the build, but I gave in. I let the idea of "it's your first, don't go all out" stick. Now the prices are all over the place and it's starting to hit other components. I plan to try and go for another build this summer, keeping a very close eye on the 1080ti, and will give my current build to my son. I really, really hope things ease up by then, but I'm saving extra just in case. Hard to say how it's going to go... If you mine, that's fine. I have no issues against any of it, it's just I hate how the market has been hit due to it....which sucks for those like myself who don't really have the money to always throw into a PC when I get a little extra -- I got a family to feed and keep a roof over their head, as well, so I have to set personal wants like this to the side a lot and hope shit becomes reasonable again.
