We were in a terrible place, but we were moving in the right direction. We stopped moving, and if you aren't moving forward you are going backwards. Here we are in a worse place. Still, listening to the band makes we want to move again.

Usually, as a theatre audience leaves a performance they make at least some noise as they exit. When in the early 70's I left the Festival Hall London along with the rest of the audience there was no noise except the shuffling of feet. Why? Everyone was literally stunned into silence after the Tornado. Kirk wore an orange hat resembling a tea cozy, and a high viz orange one-piece suit. 😲

Wow!! This is GOLD! I can't believe this finally surfaced, what a joy. I've long been a huge fan of his Montreux performance of the same year, with the same band plus percussionist and guide Habao. So seeing this and a recently uploaded France performance of the same year just kill me in the best way.

For real though! I started listening to jazz about 16 years ago or so, and Rahsaan was one of the first handful of artists I discovered. I remember how badly I would have _killed_ to see actual *video* of Roland playing. I mean, it's pretty extreme stuff to imagine a man who could play two or three saxophones at the same time *musically* , or play a recorder with his freaking nose! Unbelievable!

The undefeated! The unconquerable! Wunderkind! As He described Himself, " a journey agent". Ears and expressions light years beyond, "plantation earth". The Infinate Majik! Like Leadbelly, the two of them absorbed all of the music which preceded them and surrounded them. And with verve, delivered the listener and fed em'. Spiritually that is. "Prepare thyself to deal with a miracle"

Rahsaan was one seriously badd musician. Daring. Fearless. Loving and understanding his blackness. And it's a shame that so little of that is in jazz anymore. That destruction of that chair on TV was out of this world! An Impromptu situation, but meaningful...

David Evans imo it‘s about leaving, the in a way artificial „concert situation „ destroing the comfortable „i play you listen and pay“ thing not the chair! we should ask ourselfs how much risk is involved in a „ classical“ jazz conzert everything is on the save side he was a show man but just as a side effect his main thing was sound he had a vision😎

Thanks! A brilliant performance by one of the greatest musicians/performers ever! The playing of multiple instruments, nor his jaw-dropping circular breathing were never gimmicks. His compositions, improvisations, and bandleading skills are superb! I had never heard of his interest in Edgar Varese. Afterwards, I heard snatches of fellow Varese fan, Frank Zappa's "vocabulary." The whole band is tight! That half-size bass really cuts through the mix! The "Floor Boss" must've disrespected him, placing a chair on the stage. Rashaan wasn't havin' it! Calling out Billy Gibbons for ripping off RRK's "Cross" rap, word-for-word, pause-for-pause, for "Fool for your Stockings." Billy G's guitar playing is mostly "channeled" from better players. also.

Now you must know that there's all kind of crosses.. there's all kind of crosses you must deal with in life. We don't really have enough time to run down all the crosses that might cross you up, but if we can be any way of helping to tell you about some of the crosses, then you'll know some of the crosses that you've probably dealt with and just bring it back out of your mind again. Now, you might say 'I don't have no cross I have to deal with, he must be crazy.' Well if you lay down across someone tonight, you're putting yourself in a hell of a cross. ... You know what I mean? And for those that will not be laying down across someone, that have to lay down by themselves tonight, sometimes you'll get awful cross, 'cause you be lonely. You know what I mean? And if you go home tonight, 'cause somebody is taking care of your cross, you'll really be cross, see? So it really ain't all it's got nothing to do with, you know, the cross that you're trying to associate with, because we all have a cross that we must bear. Now there's the green cross, the white cross, the yellow cross, the black cross, the double cross, the criss cross, the wrong cross, the heavy cross, the music cross, the love cross, the old guy president cross, the old governor cross, the jail cross, the smoker cross, the cocaine cross.. All kind a crosses. I know y'all know some crosses you can shout out, let us know that you got a cross that you must bear. Ain't y'all got some crosses out there? What kind of crosses you got? Tell me about them! N'uh huh. See what I mean? We all have a cross. But now a cross ain't supposed to cross you up. You supposed to go on and get across the cross that you wanna get across and go on across that cross, make that cross do whatever you wanna do, to make you get yourself across, and once you done got across that cross, you supposed to look back across that cross and go on and deal with it and leave it alone. Yeah. I tell you, I tell you, the cross get's awful heavy. I tell you people been sleeping on Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Rahsaan Roland Kirk is capable to be on any qualified television show. Rahsaan Roland Kirk is capable to be and to stand up with anyone that calls himself a philosiphier. Because I know how to philosiphy in my own way. There's all kind a ways to philosiphy. Oh yeah. Yes. Yes. And not only Rahsaan Roland Kirk, there's other musicians that know how to philosiphy and deal with the situation that has been sleep on, people don't even want us on television, on prime shows, on beautiful black shows that we could be able to hold our own on, instead on the panel with all those other people that are supposed to be so hip, but they sit up there so dried up and they be judging and passing judgement on people, and it's a drag that they judge such beautiful people out of their life. So we must realize this, and if you can realize that this is a cross that they must deal with one day in their life, they will have to come on and take this cross in their hands and they might be awful cross is what I'm saying, because sometime when the cross gets heavy you get awful cross and you don't even know how to get across that cross, and when you look back across that cross, you mad and cross at yourself because you didn't even know how to deal with the cross that you got cross at.
