Well, the way I see it goes something like this: If the president of a country has a twin who works for him as his private assassin, do you consider the twin the president too? They didn't rule together. Ei just fought all of Makoto's innevitable battles. Once her sister died and she gained the Gnosis, Ei became an archon, The Second Electro Archon.

She technically the first archon but not officially since its can only be one archon, which is why she "suicide" so makoto can become archon

That’s exactly how I interpreted her quest as well. It provided tremendous growth for her. She’s starting to realize the flaw in her implementation…. And that what she hoped to accomplish was impossible. Sad.

@@TeyvatHistoria - There was a line that struck me when I did her quest. Her line was "Perhaps... Perhaps I've been holding on to everything too tightly". It was such a beautiful line and hearing her say that herself was such a great development for her character.

Some enjoyed it and found Ei very cute while hanging out with her, while others were disappointed that they got that instead of a good in depth look of her character through her dealing with the aftermath of the Inazuma Archon Quest while witnessing the impact of the Vision Hunt Decree she established left on her people

@@granmastersword - People had mixed receptions because people had different expectations for her after the Archon quest. People who wanted to learn more about her after the events of the Archon quest liked her story quest. People who wanted to learn more about her past and her lost friends that were shown in her teaser probably didn't like it because it focused solely on Ei. So, I guess it depends on your expectations after what happened in the Archon quest.

@@kikovillanueva7189 well, there was also the bit that many, even the CN players, felt disappointed with the quality of the Archon Quest, feeling somewhat rushed and underutilizing characters like Kokomi that had plot potential because Mihoyo really wanted to boost sales for Ei's banner, which from what I have seen it was a success

Its a little leak acknowlegy, but theres supposedly a book coming wherein Makoto creates Ei, based upon Ei. And that Ei had once before given over her power so that Makoto could rule, thinking her to be better at the job. The Archon of Transience may have at one point given her all to become makotos sword, makoto reforged that sword into Ei as we know her, and she once again, turned herself back into a sword, despite not remembering her having done so in the past. Its, a wierdly and maybe fitting cycle for an Archon of both Transience and war.

@@beashemmad.sayson545 Kinda agree, but I's also not willing to believe some fo the 'fictional' branded stories actually are in a setting with cyclical storytelling and roles. If Ei were created, perhaps it may have been with Kitsune saiguu's assistance, and the Yae provided the help and techniques later on for Ei to advance her plans and move forward construction her own bodies [Scara/shogun]. The scrolls did mysteriously appear... and Yae seems to take responsibility and care with Scaramouche as Ei herself implies she does. If Saiguu left notes and knowledge, Yae may be the one pulling strings, and fully aware Ei might also have been created and all her ancient friends wanted her to open up, and find her own excitement and reason to live in and enjoy the moments. Imo, it's like... Guoba lost his old identity as Marchosius. He was a black slate and an innocent once again and has to start over, but Ei was surrounded by friends and had her sister. Character wise: The assessment that Fictional Ei, might find herself lacking and choose to devote her power to helping her sister ascend instead of herself is righteously in keeping with Ei's character. Her knowing it to be denalable and false... is kind of outside of her knowledge. You have amnesia! I think i would remember that! ... The closest I have seen to Ei reliably living in the moment of her own volition and initative, is trying to convince traveller to spar with her. Even going so far as to pretend to be the Shogun thinking he might not be able to face her seriously. That, unbidden! Conforms to all of her values, It's inside what peoples expectation of her is, so it's allowed.. training with people whose company she likes is something she enjoyes, working to better herself (Growing) and also being considerate of others, putting their feelings before her own... but also being selfishly motivated and, needy?

Recently I watched a stream where someone played the prolog and know I have this weird feeling that Kaeya, just like Dain, already is aware of our sibling. Not only does he seem very suspicious about the traveler when meeting them the first time but he also comments about the travelers style of gliding, saying something along the lines that he remembers a similar style of gliding from long ago. 👀 Ahh~ I can't wait for the story to focus on the Abyss again.

The thing with 'unwillingness to the voices of her people' is that... her own subjects lied to her. The Tri-commissions which are supposed to give accurate reports of what happens in Inazuma just hid the fact that the civil war was still raging on and that people were a lot more opposed to the Vision Hunt Decree than she thought. The Kanjou and Tenryou Commissions basically made sure that the 'this situation threatens Eternity = stop current situation'-protocol in the Shogun Puppet never activated. And... the only other person Ei had when she isolated herself was Yae Miko. Everyone else was dead. And Miko didn't seem to try to snap Ei out of it either.
