My city calls these Rail Shuttles whenever a train or a streetcar (tram) is out of commission

Okay now I’m confused bcz I’ve been travelling on “tube rail replacement and it’s free” but you’ve made a point there abt rail services so I guess it’s 50/50 😅😅

You need to have a ticket or oyster card or contactless to get on it but you walk on but must have one of those things before boarding
