Rail Served Lumber Yards

15 күн бұрынThere was a time when many towns, large and small, had independent lumber yards. A majority of those were served by rail. It is still possible to find some of these gems, but now they are more common on our model railroads than they are in real life.
Let's visit some 20 model railroads to see how these lumber yards are depicted by modelers.

This brings back memories of a lumber company in my town, Gamblin Lumber Company. When I was just a little boy my dad purchased all his lumber, nails and other items he needed from them. The lumber yard was rail served and they would receive box cars along with flat cars of product. The main office had a wood burning potbelly stove in it. I can remember standing by it on cold days.The lumber yard is still there but is not rail served anymore and has been for years. It had dock to unload the freight cars with lots of out buildings. Thanks for the memories.

Nice compilation Bruce. I spotted the same storage rack shed as I have in the photo with the Sasquehanna box car
