I am pleased to present this rare production from a section of the Siskiyou Line in Southern Oregon on the Central Oregon & Pacific! This takes place from Cow Creek Canyon North of Glendale to Medford with in between locations including Wolf Creek, Hugo, Grants Pass, Gold Hill and more.
Trains on this section of the Siskiyou Line are scheduled to run during the cover of darkness which is a shame because it's arguably the best section of the entire line. However, one can sometimes get lucky to witness these jobs when they're behind schedule and catch them during the morning once it's light. This was one of those rare occurrences.
With some fortunate inside intel I was lucky enough to head down to this part of the Siskiyou Line to witness trains on some of my favorite section of railroad. I've been waiting for a long time to capture this part of the Siskiyou Line at length so please enjoy!
These scenes were filmed with the professional DJI Inspire 2 drone and the DJI Osmo Action.
Music is used from Soundstripe
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed!

Oregon has to be the most scenic railroading state in the union, the variety of terrain is just sublime.

I totally enjoy your videos. I retired from a residential carpenter. Now I'm building a model railroad in HO scale. I get a lot of good ideas for scenery. Bridges, tunnel portals and what not. Your drone footage is like seeing a model operate.

Beautiful country that shows some of the problems faced by the Central Pacific engineers. It’s not hard to imagine all of the steam locomotives and helpers required to move trains over this route. It would have been a real wilderness when the railroad was constructed. It must have been something to see a century+ ago. Your video is wonderful. It brings “to life” history books of southwest Oregon. Thanks for shooting this historic route, Dan.

No kidding and the fact that they would have been building it in the 1880's and maybe earlier. I am very happy I could capture and share this one!

You would not have to pay me to work for that railroad! And this has got to be one of the best train chasing videos ever the scenery is magnificent. The cinematography is on point and I just love those Genesee and Wyoming derivative Corp. schemed locomotives. A little narration on maybe how old the line isor how this railroad came together would be great. I am definitely not critiquing your video. I absolutely love what you’re doing. Thank you so much.

Excellent, Dan. We lived in Grants Pass many years ago but traveled the road to Medford many, many times. When I was in the Boy Scouts I climbed Mt. McLoughlin, probably 1956ish

Geography notes: Cow Creek is a significant tributary of South Umpqua River. The Rogue-Umpqua Divide on this route (as well as the border between Douglas and Jackson Counties) occurs between Glendale and Wolf Creek. The railroad route varies widely from that taken by I-5 and historic US-99. There is a good county road through Cow Creek Canyon on the opposite bank, as you can see in this video.

Thank you and yes I'm trying to make ground footage a regular occurrence in the rest of my videos I upload because actually having the sound of the train adds a whole other dynamic. No sound from the drone is definitely the biggest drawback.

Dan: I love your videos but I don't have many good feeling re CORP after the way they abandoned the line between Coos Bay and Eugene. Thanks to Peter DeFazio, that line is now up and running. You did a excellent video of that line.

Another great video Dan! The scenery was beautiful. The train snaking along the river was stunning. Do you think that the train crew might purposely run late some times so that they can see this scenery in the daylight rather than just the tracks in front of them as they run the dark? Thank you for documenting the train between Glendale and Medford, Oregon and for sharing this video with us!
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Thomas! I don't think they get late on purpose but I would imagine it's much more pleasant to run when it's actually light outside. They miss a whole lot of good scenery during the dark!

Great video! Does anyone know if this train continues on over the Siskiyou's to Black Butte for interchanges with UP?
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 3 жыл бұрын
This one terminates in Medford and a different crew runs over Siskiyou Pass to continue towards Weed. Very minimal exchange happens between CORP and UP at Black Butte. 99% of exchange happens in Eugene.

Dan, I'm curious, with lumber prices so high, do you see a lot of lumber load trains, heading to market? Or is there a stockpiling of product, to boost up prices? I know your not an investigator, maybe someone else out there knows something?
@TheRailfanDan
@TheRailfanDan 3 жыл бұрын
There has definitely been a spike in lumber loads overall for sure. CORP included. I don't think there is much stockpiling happening but I'm not sure.
