The crossing at 4:30... There's a crossing like that near the prison in Leavittsburg, OH. All yield and crossbucks but no gates or signals.

13:07 Why does the bell turn on when the gate is lowering? There is a crossing similar in Lockport, IL. I found it interesting. Only 2nd one I’ve seen.

United Railfan I'm not sure why. I live in the San Francisco Bay area and many of the crossing around here are similar

There's one near Ware Illinois but except both bells turn on when the gates are lowering

Illinois is certainly up to par with railroad crossings. Even remote roads not even paved have signals and gates while neighboring states like Wisconsin and Indiana still have lots of crossings without even signals and even on roads they may not be real major but aren't real minor either.

How do you determine what crossings to add in these videos besides the fact that they are in the Midwest?

Sometimes it’s older equipment, the history or the area, or just the fact it’s the nearest crossing when train chasing.

4:13 is very dangerous at least have lights or a warning for an approaching train.Same with 28:11.

The road is probably so quiet that it wouldn't be worth the effort installing lights.
