Watch as the tough, dedicated and professional railroaders of the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern battle snow drifts and ice-clad rails as they bring a covered hopper from the road's Utica, NY yard 35 miles north to Bailey's Boonville Mill on Feb 19, 2019. It had been several weeks since the last run on this line and plenty of snow accumulated in the meantime.
The crew first switched out an empty hopper from Bailey's then traveled south approx two miles to retrieve the loaded hopper which was "dropped" on a siding just north of Potato Hill Road.

I have an interesting memory of this line. Several years ago I was on a passenger excursion that ran up to Booneville. I recall there was some street running through the town. I was in the open baggage car enjoying the sights as we slowly passed a guy as he unloaded a case of beer from his car. He watched the unusual sight of a passenger train and a bunch of rail fans staring down at him and offered us some beers. He tossed up a few and we had a nice cold one as we departed town.

Glad to see they are still servicing the feed mill in Boonville I was wondering if they still did. I worked for them as an Engineer and conductor back in 93 when I got layed off from Conrail, never got a chance to switch out the feed mill but did have the opportunity to switch out Lyons Falls paper mill a couple times. Ended up back at Conrail after a few weeks of working for them, just wish they would have had more business or that some of the ones they had didn't close down. Now I deliver cars to them in Carthage working for CSX.

This video does confirm two things; an Alco C425 is not a good snow plow per say but it is a good switch engine. Love those BCR colors in the snow. Thanks for the video.

I LOVE Short lines and your vids of the Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern are really excellent. So cool to see them acting as both train & track snowplow, lol. I never knew a loco could get through snow this deep, I would have though derailing might happen. Nice to see the fellow railcrew w/the bulldozer help them at what might be a split off to the right? Hard to tell if that track goes straight and splits right or not. Thanks for posting.

nice COLD vid... @ 2:11... good thing that loco knuckle is closed... through experience, after running through the snow like this with the knuckle open, it's a 90/10 chance it won't close when you want it to... keep them loco knuckles CLOSED in the winter

Another really great video .. your content is awesome. That grade at Bailey's Boonville Mill, Inc is really something. If that car at 4:19 caused him to return down the grade and make another run at it..he would have been p..sd. I remember Boonville as a snow belt area. The closest I lived to this area was the tri city...Alb, Sch, Troy. I can remember many snowfalls in the area you filmed getting 3-4'+ often. Thank you for sharing.

If my parents were still alive i would go there and check it out in person. Lots of fond memories visiting them. I stayed at the hotel once many many years ago, and my mom managed the convenience store in the town center up to the early 80s. I dont know if its still there.

Back when I was in my first year of college back in 79, my dorm backed up against what was then the Conrail (now Norfolk Southern) mainline between Harrisburg and Allentown. First two weeks of the semester, all the freshman woke up when a train went by. After that, we would wake up when trains DIDN'T come! It was too quiet!
