Jason. A tip I learned a long time ago for masking rail heads during painting. Run a bar of soap over the length of the track. Just wipe it off when you're done painting

Love your skills with weathering. Your artistic talent really shows when you’re painting. I would really enjoy seeing a bright spot on the layout where some building is under construction. At such a busy seaport there would always be some new addition or fresh repair.

Hi Jason. It's a neat job you did. Course you got a heat cutter. It helps A LOT ! But using foam is a great idea. Especially when there's a big rail curve... Hard to make it look nice using styrene. You are lucky with your 2-rail track. I work with Märklin 3-rail and that is always a struggle with the middle rail (called puko's) which makes it impossible to glue in a styrofoam strip in the middle. This track becomes stunning. Keep going. Br. Ronald (Modellbahn Rosenbahn)

Just a small nitpick. The two metal “horns” just to the left of the crane (at 44:48) is just for breaking the direction of a mooring line. It needs a bollard where the line is tied. :)

As always, thank you for sharing your construction ideas and how you use various materials - styrofoam and paint. I may not use them in the same manner but you provide detailed information that allows me to apply them in my own unique way. Happy modeling! The use of concrete has limited application for my 1930s rural logging railroad but I am considering its use for some future construction projects involving a foundation for a grist mill and the dam on the river. I was one of the "remove half of the trestle" people! I feel guilty, but not that guilty, for making extra work for you. I'm sure you can use the spare trestles elsewhere. Nice job on the pink styrofoam concrete. I've used softer grey craft foam before and, as long as you don't press on it too hard, it cuts out the chamferring of the edges. However, there's always more than one way to skin a cat! Cheers

Jason, i was watching another of your vids where u are making a metal door for your sci fi diorama. You may know this already, but Tichy, precision scale, etc do make nut/bolt/washer castings.

I've a very short section of embedded rails so I used Kato embedded track. Trick for me was mating Atlas code 55 and filling in concrete around the Kato

Another great video, you are a magician! Amazing how the subtlety of the paint can do so much to in the illusion of the modeling. Have you ever done videos on weathering rolling stock, steam locos, and Diesel locos?

If you want a better effect on your broken concrete, just push down where it is broken and you'll see how great it looks.

As always a very informative Video. I hope you show more on the N scale back ground buildings, how you do it, do you scan the wall sections with window and doors attached ? The tips on the foam cutter were great, I have had mine for 2 years and had to learn those on my own. I cringed as you used the liquid nails , I use Styrogoo from the hot wire foam factory I like the control in tight places sets fast I have used it to set buildings, resin parts to foam. It is cheaper than LN. Thanks!

Thanks Jason, I learned a lot. But the biggest thing I learned is that wiping your hands on the paper towel on the Styrofoam is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go add some cracks to my concrete...

Great video, indeed ! I like the way you "create" concrete. Right now I am building a cement plant with a rather large classification yard. I would like the yard to lay entirely on inset tracks but I'm wondering what to do with the turnouts...

I didn't know you asked about the thresttles... If it was for me, I would keep all of them. For only ONE reason : it adds a lot of details to the scene. You may replace them for something else way better (I trust you on this one 100%) but there's nothing like bridges. Especially old ones made out of wood. My opinion...

Rather than pick up each individual tile, why not gently slide a piece of poster board under the tiles as the lie, and then gently move the poster board onto the auxiliary work surface in the lower left corner of the screen? God idea to use N scale for forced perspective. I.n the UK we could use TT (3mm) scale buildings and N scale after that.

Great work Jason! I really want to put some rails in concrete on my next layout and never thought of using foam. I have a question for one of the plastic kits I am building, I painted it a light sand color but want to go over it with a white wash. Would it look more realistic with a white wash or a dry brushing? Cheers Brian

Where are the buildings next to the concrete area from? The big ones you point at, at 43:11. I've seen them in the background of a few videos now and I don't think you made a video about them.

Do you always go light to dark with pigments?

I only watched this video up until you made the impression on the styrofoam. From the moment this video started that's what I would've done. The rest is elementary.

Jason I really like the look results of this project. My problem is, well problem isn't quite right. My main concern is the hold up of the Styrofoam. With use and moving of various things like cars and the such causing dents and minor to major damage over time. How has your experience been in the past 🤔?? What kind of Styrofoam was used? Can any Styrofoam be used or are there certain types that you should use?

My only complaint about this hot wire cutter is the angle protractor guide is sloppy. I glued mine at 90 degrees because I never use any other setting.

You don't throw expensive pink foam away .those strips could be used for the edges or to fill in .it's wasteful to just throw it away.

Been watching you for a few years and something continues to bother me about your layout. Don’t get me wrong, I think you’re more or less a genius, when it comes to creating highly realistic buildings, etc. But, where do the people live in this town [?] of yours? It seems like pretty much all the buildings in your layout are businesses… Am I missing something?

nice video Great to see you also use the Proxxon Thermocut, it's one of my favorite modeling tools If you want to get more out of this tool, I advise you to buy the Proxxon foot switch as well, so you can interrupt the power supply with your foot and have both hands free to work with the Styrodur / Foam I also use a few tools from Gerard Boom (shiftinglands or shiftinglands-usa ) I don't want to miss the GuiderPro or the Circular Cutting Board anymore Maybe just search for "Shiftinglands" or "Gerard Boom" on KZfaq, there are also lots of great videos explaining the tools
