Good suggestion in installing the uniseal the easier way. Boil the rubber uniseal to make it soft. Insert into the hole as fast as you can before it cools off and then install the pipe. The pipe should go in with a minimum push because of the soften uniseal. I did it and it works.

Excellent job on these videos! Extemely informative and at a very nice pace. I learned a lot from this one and the others. You have a new subscriber. If you get the time and you are short on content ideas, I'd love to see an in depth video about your drip irigation, including different material options, spacing, hole placement, etc. I'm going to get started on creating a very similar water collection system for my garden and the next project will be automation. Thanks for the great videos!

Andrew Hodges Thank you for the kind comments and suggestion. Yes I will be doing some more gardening and irrigation updates. I’ve been a bit busy the past couple weeks building a big 6’ x 12’ chicken coop, but will be getting some garden videos up soon once the coop project is completely built.

You need a float switch to the pump so if the barrels run out of water it shut off the pump so it doesn't burn out yours is the second one I've seen with that in line filter I'm still trying to find one and that other comment is right by putting the over flow on the last barrel it doesn't matter whether it is 1 1/2 or 3 inches you are restricted to the size of your connector pipes between the barrels better to go with a tee on the inlet pipe and raise all the air vents above it that way the barrels all fill up to the top

New subscriber, you are a physical hacker! Way to go! I'd love a follow up video, I'm about to install my first barrel (was a birthday gift). My style is an old olive barrel, I'm going to be picking up the leaf eater too and then spending some time to figure out which downspout I want to work on first. AS for solar my whole roof is solar so if I end up finding a free pump I would likely just plug the pump in with a timer. Thanks again for the video, gives me much more confidence!

4:43 It is better if you place valves at the vertical segments of tubes. In this case you will be able to exclude each barrel. But it the way you done in the video you are able to turn off only all barrels after the valve. So, the difference is: every single barrel you need or all barrels after a given valve.

I love how it is hooked up wit a drip system but can you water manually with pump on through a hose and sprayer
@TexasOrganicGardening
@TexasOrganicGardening 3 жыл бұрын
Yes if you didn’t need a timer for drip irrigation you could eliminate that and just use a hose and sprayer. The pump will provide plenty of pressure for that. You could try without the pump first but I don’t think the barrels alone would provide satisfactory PSI without it unless your garden is 20-30’ downslope from the barrels.
@joshuadaniels1410

So the automated timer will automatically turn on the pump? Correct? You don’t have to do anything else to trigger pump?

Thanks for your great video. If the barrels were placed higher off the ground would your drip system work without a pump? If so how do you calculate how high the barrels would have to be placed up off the ground to work without a pump please.
@mccaslan1

I also think that he didn’t need to put a pressure opening at the top of each barrel. One would have worked and it would add some pressure to the system.

By putting your overflow on the last barrel it doesn't matter if you have 1 1/2or4 inch overflow you are restricted to the size of your manifold the water going through to the last barrel will equivalent to a 3/4 inch overflow

I've watched many videos on rain barrels and this was one of the best! Question: Would this pump work to connect to a garden hose to water your lawn using an oscillating or spinning sprinkler?
@TexasOrganicGardening
@TexasOrganicGardening 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the pump outputs as much pressure as the hose bib on the house so it could run a sprinkler.

Very cool video , I found the bulk head fitting at a local hardware store . But am having trouble with the part that connect to the bulk head and adapts to the PVC pipe. In your video it is a 90' elbow . Do you know if this part can be found on Amazon? what is it called?. thanks !

I changed my design after watching your video. Have you had any issues with the overflow being on the far end barrel? My system would look a lot cleaner if I did the same. Oh, just wanted to add that when installing a bulkhead the gasket should go on the inside. It looks like you installed the bulkhead with the gasket on the outside. That may be why you had leaks.

This is an awesome setup..I have watched all your videos in this series for making rain barrels with a pump. I had a few questions. Do you need a PSI gauge? Where did you get your drip irrigation lines? Thank you so much.
@TexasOrganicGardening
@TexasOrganicGardening 3 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for watching. You don’t need a PSI gauge, but I did buy one before installing them pump for troubleshooting. That’s when i confirmed that the barrels without the pump hardly provided insufficient PSI to go let the timer work. Timer requires 15 PSI. After that finding I added the pump. Drip irrigation lines were ordered from Rainbird.

Yes, we are in Texas and we did have a long hard freeze here in March. It is recommended to drain the system in the fall so it doesn’t freeze up. You would need to leave a drain open at the bottom or cover the inlet as well.

Did you think about staking two barrels one on top of other to get propper pressure of water without pump?
@TexasOrganicGardening
@TexasOrganicGardening 3 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. Yes, each 2.3 feet of height gets you 1 PSI of pressure. The timer requires 15 PSI so the barrels would have to be 30 feet above the timer to get functional pressure. That’s why I added the pump.

Is the largest center part of all your lids cut out and replaced with something else flat/black? When I picked up my barrels the seller warned me about cutting into lids as they can easily shatter. Thoughts?
@TexasOrganicGardening
@TexasOrganicGardening 3 жыл бұрын
The lids on the barrels are the ones that come with it. It is a screw ring and a flat piece. I was able to cut through them OK. There is more videos of this in the playlist.

What is the black thing attached between the coupler and the timer?

Thats an inline filter with a removable screen. One last filtration just to make sure no particles get into the drip irrigation lines. Will be doing an annual follow up and inspecting it in a new video to come.
