I demonstrate how to install a nozzle and adjust the sprinkler head on the Rainbird 5000 and Rainbird 42SA+ sprinkler heads that rotate. The trick is to adjust the left angle first, then use the +/- to adjust the right angle of the sprinkler.

Dude!!!! You are the ONLY person who has explained how to adjust these confusing as shit rotarys in a way that even a moron ( me ) can understand. I almost dug all mine up and was ready to switch them out for some other non-adjustables. Thank you!!!

This has to be the best instruction on how to set a sprinkler. Every video i found starts with assuming you have your left angle set. Not only was your explanation on setting both angles consice, but showing both perspectives for the viewer was great. I will be checking out your other videos to help me get things done around the house. Keep up the good work.

I get the right sweep and distance but the left stop has me confused... can you adjust the left stop while the head is up and the head is dis-charging water or does the water supply need to be off so I need the tool to extend the head and adjust that way??

Yes, you can adjust the head to the left while the sprinkler is on and water is coming out. In fact, that's what I do to set it exactly where I want it.

Yes, what you're doing is correct. You just turn the top of the head (like top 2 inches).

Hi, good video. But when you use vice grips on the sleeve you risk putting scars and scrapes in the sleeve wall. That surface needs to be smooth for the gasket to slide over to prevent leaks. Most people tightly hold the sleeve with their hand to install the nozzle. Also always be gentle with the ratchet assembly. Always go the direction it wants you to go. Otherwise, the gears get stripped. OBTW, I just found a "hold open tool". It does the same thing as your vice grips but does not damage the tube. 😊

I want to set for 360 degrees and adjusted the set screw all the way clockwise. The head reverses itself at the 360 mark and goes back to 0 degrees and continues to oscillate back and forth. Is this what's supposed to happen? Not like the earlier rotator heads. What am I missing?

How do you turn off one sprinkler head? One are is too wet . How do you choose the right nozzle as you did when you chose 2.5?

You can't turn it off. To choose the nozzle, just guess and watch the lawn. If it'd still too dry, go up a size or two.

Hi When water is started in four of my Rainbird 5000 sprinkler, it starts from left stopping point, it rotates to the right most end and then starts rotating to left. It stops in between at a fixed point and then do not rorate any direction. I can move it to left by hand. Then it starts to rotate to right and above behavior repeats. Please provide guidance on how to fix it.

Sounds like something is gumming it up on the inside. Are they new, or a few years old? You may just need to replace them because they shouldn't be doing that.

You can't adjust left angle. Install with left where you want it, then adjust right rotation. Rainbird 5000, when it's in the ground rotate the whole sprinkler body to left. From rainbird 5k manual Align Fixed LEFT Edge: 1. Pull up turret and turn to the left trip point (counterclockwise). CAUTION: If the rotor does not turn easily to the left, first turn it right (clockwise) to the right trip point.

I don't think the water hits the nozzle and impeads the distance. The screw on my 42A+ doesn't go that far down for water to hit it. I do think turning the screw to the right reduces the distance--but not for that reason.

Keep tightening the screw and you'll see it hits the water stream. As it disrupts the stream, it reduces the distance
