The Tour of Flanders is a prestigious but brutal race, with sharp climbs and rough cobbled roads. Last year saw Tadej Pogacar and Lotte Kopecky ride to victory, but who will be the champion of the cobbles this time around? Dan and Si run through the race history and route ahead of De Ronde.

Since this preview was recorded, there has been a big crash at Dwars Door Vlaanderen which saw a lot of the pre-race men's favourites badly injured. Amongst them, Wout van Aert, who broke multiple bones, and Jasper Stuyven, who broke a collarbone. Mads Pedersen and Biniam Girmay were amongst the others involved, but both hope to be racing in Flanders on Sunday. We wish all riders involved the very best with their recovery. Hi everyone. I'm so sorry this video was out of date as soon as it was released. I decided we should still put it out because all of the course information was still relevant, and the majority of the riders too. Since the closure of GCN+, we lost our small team that was dedicated to racing coverage. It means we don't have the resource to re-film/edit things like this at the last moment, particularly ahead of a bank holiday Friday as we have in the UK tomorrow. Enjoy Sunday's races. Dan

@@joshuakazfields4374sure Visma will be, but without WvA, they certainly aren’t at full strength. Which does make the breakdown different: no Laporte or WvA means riding only for Jorgensen really instead being able to ride around who has the best legs

The Koppenberg climb is also used at the Koppenbergcross, of course. (Which then got mentioned later on, after the earlier claim that it wasn’t used in any other racing. Doh!)

I did. You get all the WT and Pro level races as well as CX and mountain bike. But you're right, it's more than twice what GCN+ was charging.

Guys could you give your view in the Koppenberg? Should it stay in de RVV or should it be taken out or taken out when it's raining? I personally believe it should remain inany weather. Riders can opt for different tire if they believe they need more grip. Riders with best technique and power will be atthe front and were able to ride up it thx!!

it can't be that hard to edit the video in light of a major crash-injury by one of the worlds best and race-favorites, throw an edit over the original video, and then re-upload... On a side note, the loss of the GCN+ cycling app and its race coverage, I have been struggling to find coverage of races. Specifically, Milano-San Remo was not broadcast live on Max/Discovery+, Dwars Door Vlanderen is not on their site at all, I'm still missing most racing so far, and I really miss the GCN app and the race coverage. I pay for two apps that very poorly attempt to provide the service I got from the GCN+ app, at such a bargain. RIP GCN+.

In terms of race coverage Discovery+ is giving as much in UK as I got from GCN+ (albeit double the price). Must confess I'd be distraught if I was in another territory where you've pretty much been abandonned.

MSR was on Max as well as Catalonia. It breaks down like this: The races promoted by Flanders Classics are on FloBikes; those by ASO (Tour de France organizers) are on Peacock; everything else is on Max. On Max, you can find them in the BR (Bleacher Reports) section, but you may need to scroll down a bit. Unfortunately, Max is a bit stingy in keeping replays around and doesn't provide any documentaries or other supplementary material. The good news thoughts that the Eurosport Cycling KZfaq channel is no longer blocked in the USA. So you can get highlights, last kms, and news show snippets there, even for races that Max doesn't have rights for in the USA.

Incredible how just a few measly days can completely upend the cycling season and basically make all previews obsolete lol. On a cheerier note, y'all are NOT one-all! One of you predicted the winner(s!) of Strada correctly, and neither of you predicted the winner of San Remo. Pretty simple tbh. I reckon though if Dan gets his - now very probable - prediction right, he'll have the upper hand. Cheers gents.

I guess its an unusual situation with Ronde on easter weekend with bank holidays etc but it does look a bit crap that you uploaded this vid as is. Maybe many of the GCN team are already in Belgium, howabout a live preview update from a bar in Oudenaarde? An idea for next year maybe....Cheers anyway, hoping for action and suspense throughout the race.

Broken collar bone (succesful surgery BTW), 7 broken ribs and ... a cracked sternum. He's also being checked out internally to see if there is no organ or head damage. And then all the road rash. I can't even imagine the amount of physical hurt he must be in right now. Let alone what's going on in his head. I think the Olympics might even be a close call. Also, let's not forget the other victims: - Cédric Beullens (Lotto-Dstny): severe road rash and bruises. - Gleb Brussenskiy (Astana): pretty much ok, just some road rash. - Michele Gazzoli (Astana): three broken ribs. - Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty): rib injuries causing being short of breath (he had his horror crash last year on about the same spot ... must be tough in th head). - Alex Kirsch (Lidl-Trek): fracture in the right hand. - Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek): multiple bruises and road rash. - Laurenz Rex (Intermarché-Wanty): pretty much ok, just some road rash. - Jasper Stuyven (Lidl-Trek): complicated collarbone fracture. - Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies): road rash and some cuts. - Brent Van Moer (Lotto-Dstny): major road rash and bruises. - Gianni Vermeersch (Alpecin-Deceuninck): severe road rash all over his back and a bruised tailbone. All we can do, is wish these guys the best recovery possible. Cycling is so beautiful but oh so brutal at the same time. It was agonising to watch ... 😞

@@wimve4719 thank you for this info. i tried to reply rt away but my phone wdnt allow it, only by computer allowed here. odd wva has had worse injury. stupid leg juts our from fence tdf. so hurt he had to re learn how to walk, using a harness to do so. he came back. as terrible as his injuries now, he will be back and be great again.

Women’s race should be interesting. On paper SD look unbeatable, but Vollering and Reusser’s form are unsure, Wiebes might find the race a bit too hard and even Kopecky does not look as imperial as last year. Not to forget the team turmoil. Lidl Trek imo really have no chance of winning unless SD implodes. The only two riders that are strong enough are ELB and Van Anrooij, but they are not explosive enough, they would have to end up in a 2v1 situation to win. Balsamo is talked up too much, her sprint has looked fabulous but her climbing has been quite poor, she gets dropped on every climb and has had to be brought back by her team for every win, no way she gets to the pointy end of this one. Vos looks every bit as strong as Kopecky, plus she is smarter and has a better sprint, though this race is of course harder than the previous ones. Plus both would mainly have their eyes on PR I would say. Would be fun to see Van Empel up there, she should have the watts looking at Puck and Shrin, but she clearly has positioning issues and no one in the team to help her other than Vos. Dygert is a great name but there is really no reason to consider her seriously, she has not looked great and has never done anything on these kinds of races. I would say Faulkner is even a more realistic bet. Backsted, well I guess you had to get her in there for the British audience, but seriously? She might well be competitive here in the future, but there have not been any signs that she will be this year. Hoping for some Kasia magic as always but she might be focusing more on her climbing. Bottom line imo is that the women’s race could be more exciting than the men’s, but the list of potential winners is really short.

Sadly, this is going to be the first time in about 20 years that I'm not going to watch a single minute of De Ronde. And I will have to actually make an effort to ignore it, since it literally passes in front of my door in the center of Antwerpen... (Though to be fair, it's still the neutral zone before the official start at that point). I still feel sick about what happened in Dwars door Vlaanderen. Just can't bring myself to care about cycling in the foreseeable future.

Youre not only have to be verry good to win de ronde van vlaanderen but you need also a bit of luck , exspecialy mechanic problems and flat tires could keep you from winning this race. Just wanna say you dont have to be the best to win this race ! ! We the flemmish people regred Wout and Jasper will not ride it . Those 2 where riding on a exceptional level and where potentional winners. Wout maded his goal to win de ronde and Paris roubaix. Annyway it will spectacular like all other years. Given the fact that four of the biggest favourites crashed out yesterday at Dwars, the UCI should instruct VDP to stop at 150kms for 10 minutes, have a beer and some frites, and then get going! Bar accident, VDP will be waiting at the finish line for 3 minutes! This GCN vid is a wee bit irrelevant!

Sadly the crash yesterday has completely drained my interest in the rest of the spring. I know this is an overreaction, but it's a response to what now feels like years of increasingly 1 dimensional cartoon racing. We know who will win on Sunday, and if he doesn't it will be because he makes a mistake, like in Ghent-Wevelgem. Feels pointless to watch. Hardly any races now are close fought affairs between multiple riders. Instead they are displays of unbeatable strength by one or two individuals, with the mortals hoping for scraps. I guess it's a sort of spectacle, but I've largely stopped caring now.

@@Liofa73Seen all of this before. Loads of times since the 1970's! The truth will come out ass it always does. I have been following cycling for many many years. Those of us who have have seen the same signs before. Remember Lance Armstrong? He did the very same thing, just not as well. You do not become that much better for no reason, operate on a different level. The great deception is that the UCI convince guys like you that their clean, the sport is clean! 🙂
