cigar FMFDoc 😁 your’re funny. It’s such a great treat-and filling. I also used to put the roasted peanuts in a bottle of Coke and drink. 😂 now it sounds odd but it’s an interesting taste. I think that might be a southern thing as well. No one I show that too thinks it is normal 🤣

@@ladydaggerstatus I use to do that but in cherry coke. I worked 7p to 7a in the hospital and that was a pick me up. The sweet from the cherry, the salty from the peanuts was like a meal itself when I didnt have time to eat.

Great overall peanut vid! I have never had boiled peanuts, but now I want to. But I have grown peanuts - in central Maine! I just grew a few in pots, and was fascinated by their peculiar method of propagating. And by the end of the summer, when I pulled them up, there were peanuts!

Hi Donna. This couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I harvested my peanuts last week and I wasn't sure what to do with them! So I popped them in my slow cooker with a couple of chillies and a couple of cloves of garlic and ended up with something really delish that I'd never tried before or knew was a thing! Thanks so much! Cheers Sarah : o)

I'm guessing that peanut butter requires a good roast(?). I tried making almond butter with raw soaked almonds and it has a very mild, almost unsatisfying flavor that would be pretty much worthless without the pink Himalayan mineral salt. I ran across some raw Texas Virginia peanuts at my local Vietnamese grocery store and was inspired to try to grow them which led me to your video. Thank you for sharing your wealth of peanut knowledge. I'm looking forward to trying boiled peanuts for the first time in my 53 years on God's green Earth ...after harvest this fall of course : )

Legumes add nitrogen/ nutrients to the soil. I just grow them around my greens so that they breathe all the nitrogen in the air and add protein to the soil for the green and cruciferous veggies to have a full supply. Win win situation.

Great video! Boiled peanuts were a childhood favorite. There used to be boiled peanut vendor carts in Florida in the 60s. They’d sell little brown paper bags of boiled peanuts. I grew up in Singapore, where I never saw peanuts being grown, but on e I was over 16, one of the best treats was going to the Long Bar, in the Raffles Hotel, where they would keep refilling your bowl of roasted peanuts served with your drinks and you would keep shelling them and dropping the shells on the floor. There were even a few sparrows who had snuck in and would sort through the shells on the floor, looking for accidentally discarded peanuts. At the end of the night, they’d sweep the whole place out.

Would a dehydrater be a way to dry the peanuts for long term storage? And do they last longer in the shell, or out?
@RainbowGardens
@RainbowGardens 2 жыл бұрын
I think a dehydrator would work great! Although, I have noticed sometimes when they get too dry, the shelled nut splits in half, so I don't think they would be good for seed saving. However, I think they are still edible.

Check the days to harvest on your seed packet. If you are growing Valencia or Virginia, it is typically 140 to 150 days from the time of planting. I noted it n the video, though it was a quick screen shot.

I planted peanuts last year. In the middle pod development i noticed few plants started to wilt and die. Slowly as the pod developed, same thing continued. As I pulled few plants to inspect they were chewed and cut in the stem part. I happened to believe that voles are digging around and eating the same and cutting the plants as well. I had severe damage with moles and voles last year.
