That’s the effect forgiveness has on you. I don’t think he even realized that’s what was happening, but after all of that, what he needed was forgiveness, both of himself and his cousin, and I think spending that time together did just that. Man, that update was tough to read... I'm actually tearing up as I type this. In the end, despite everything the cousin did, he still was OP's brother (as in how they were raised together). By staying with the cousin in his final moments and allowing him to have some closure, OP actually got the closure he himself needed as well. With this, he, Marisol and Luna can all move on for good. I guess the final lesson of this story is that forgiveness is hard, as it requires us to let go of our anger and hatred. But it's the only way we can truly heal.

It doesn't matter that gangs attack there own when they leave. It doesn't matter that they are attack by other gangs when they leave. jurors don't care. it's like an 81% conviction rate on all white juries. for people of color. I believe this to be real and my heart goes out to OP he had dealt with so much the betrayal of three people he trusted most, the loss of his perfect life, moving away from everything he ever knew still lost in his anger, even finding out that rather than cheating on him his cousin was a slimeball crossing the biggest line you can cross other than murder (yet had the nerve to say OP would ruin her because he was a gang member). honestly this would make an amazing movie

@imnotyourvillainАй бұрын
From the way the cousin described the "encounter" as "[he] manipulated her & had her for all of two seconds before she realized what she was doing & pushed him off, but it was already too late", it's obvious he knew he took advantage of her. I'm a little surprised no one clocked it, since I got that feeling right away & it was confirmed, but I also get way it wasn't so obvious (especially to OP). I feel immensely for the daughter discovering the circumstances of her origin, but I'm also glad she got to get a few swings in on the jerk. I'm also relieved she has a full support system, as I'd imagine they could very well have saved her. But goodness. That cousin is a real piece of work, so I'm glad Luna was able to get away from him early on & eventually come back to her dad. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for chosen dad stories, so it made me happy to hear both parties coming to better terms.

I've read this before the cousin had leukemia and just up to the wife's abusive ex, to finally hear the ending is so heavy. I faced trauma and betrayal to from a family member, someone you're supposed to "trust", and was also raised from a Christian family, so forgiveness is a big thing here too. I've now long separated myself from the toxicity and live as peacefully as I can while trying my best to heal from trauma. And one of the things I struggle with the most is the concept of "forgiveness" of course I refuse to forgive my abuser, never. But I do relate with the heaviness OP felt, even through all the steps I'm taking to heal it's just hard to get over someone you treat as a family betray you to such an extreme. One day, when my abuser dies I hope this burden will lighten as well, I wish when that happens I'll be able to think of all the good memories we had and just be able to mourn the person they were before my trauma. fingers crossed that it happens sooner. lol
