when i was on the farm in my much younger days i had to stack on the wagon and in the hay mow those were some hot days all covered in chaff from the kicker the average was a gallon of water per wagon and i was still thirsty and had to milk fifty head after unloading the wagons oh to be that young or that stupid again i would still do it all over again it was good honest work

Mike, I really enjoy watching your videos. I raised beef cattle in the Catskill Mountains, Hudson Valley region of New York. I ended my days on the farm in the late 1980s, attending university, and joined the Navy. I retired form the Navy, October 2019. I no longer live in New York, but enjoy recalling making hay and being on the farm. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I was the one who made the shirt comment. Good thing because that hay stacking is a workout and it is probably as hot there as it is here! The hay looks good, the weather is cooperating!

You know, I thought it was you but wasn't 100% sure. Its definitely pretty hot in there. It was nice of the weather to cooperate getting the hay in but we definitely need rain now

I used to wear long sleeve flannel as a teen when stacking. It got soaking wet, but then it kept me cooler I thought.

One nice thing (maybe) about stacking second cutting hay is at least, for us, the bales have more leaves so they aren't quite so prickly. Beyond that, it still is hot and dusty. I go no sleeves too. Great drone footage too!! Nice fluffy windrows.

That's some good lookin hay. The cattle will like it. You all workin together get a lot baled. Sure fast than when I was a kid. It was hard, hot, work behind the baler, but I enjoyed it.

Wow that was a steep hill… it was making me nervous… we used to put hay cut side up on its side and the straw we laid them flat, and for hay we put a layer of salt on it. I bet youll be relieved when hay is done… Awesome video.

Thanks for sharing your videos. I find them interesting. Would a slide off of top conveyor get the bails at least half way to where you're stacking? It would cut down on your walking back and forth.
@mikep7810
@mikep7810 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jim. A slide like you are discussing would be helpful when I got all the way to the one side of the mow but when I'm on the other side then the slide will be throwing it away from where I am

Thanks Kevin. I'm not sure the actual date of the barn. I know the heifer shed that use to be a garage was added later and that has a penny nailed to the wall thats dated 1964. The barn pre dates that

The 4040 sounds great! Mike, how many bales did you get off that field this cutting?
@mikep7810
@mikep7810 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Todd. Caz equipment did a great job with the engine rebuild. I'm not sure how many we had total on the whole field. We did them in 2 parts and I never heard how many we took off the first part. They did that part while I was round baling

@mikep7810

That field is about 26 acres. No we didn't bale it in one day, We did the long part first (where the wagons were parked) then did the other part

Still the 4055. The 4250 we put on the manure spreader to pull it up these big hills after the hay is off it
