I think you are a big reason why Whisky is going to a more natural style. You've educated you're viewers and we know the difference and we want the best and wont waste our time with trash.

Great review from Professor Ralfy of Scotch University. I must say that I wish more Scotch producers would refrain from using caramel coloring and chill filtration. When I buy a Scotch whisky -- whether blended or Single Malt -- I want to see the natural color that time and the casks have produced. If you drink Dewar's, there's probably a bit of Royal Brackla in the bottle, although, how much would be difficult to ascertain.

We might expect a Royal Laphroaig soon.

A great watch while sipping my first dram of Royal Brackla 12. For whatever reason, I've been interested in this since the 46% release but never managed to get round to it, until today!

The market wants sherry bombs so the producers put out sherry bombs. Simple as that. I'd love to try 12, 15, 18 yo OB Royal Brackla vatted from ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, refill even. Kudos to the distillery for the presentation. Going from 40% ABV to 46%, non chill filtered and natural color MUST be celebrated and commended.

thanks for the review, sherry bombs are my thing, so i'm going to give this a spin. transparrency is one of the things that's becoming more and more important to me, so good on this distiller

Sadly in Ontario the only Royal Brackla I've seen available is bottled at 40% and is in a bottle with a dark blue label. Needless to say I would be very happy to see this presentation make it to shelves here!

Great to see another producer taking malt mates (and their business) seriously. Kudos to Royal Brackla for leaving the long surpassed habits of blend-style presentation behind and embarking on a very welcome, new path of integrity presentation. And kudos to you, Ralfy, for never letting go of this basic malt-mate demand and sticking to your principles. It can - and does - have an effect on the producers. And, in this enlightened sense, here is a Malt Mention: "Arise! Most marvellously marauding and mischievous malt-loving monks and mendicants! Monastic manners mandate a murderously moreish, minty maritime malt in medicinal measure on magically meditative midsummer mornings." Cheers.

Hi Ralfy, I’d love to see an extras regarding getting to know Malt ‘signatures.’ I can pick out tasting notes and am developing a bit of experience getting to know types of casks but that sounds a lot subtler. I’d love to hear more on that if you’d care to do it 🥃

Royal Brackla 12 over here is Australia is a 40% chill filtered offering, has a blue label instead of off-white.

the label say "sherry cask finish" - whilst I have been unable to find out how long the finish period is, I understand they have been primarily matured in American oak (bourbon) barrels

I just recently heard of this. We only have the 40% here in Ontario. I hope this gets here soon.

FWIW, I have a nearly empty bottle of Royal Brackla 12, and if you check on the company website, it only claims to be FINISHED in oloroso sherry casks. My bottle is the now discontinued blue label 12-year, so it might have been re-engineered since then, but I do not find it to be a sherry monster, although the cask influence is definitive, and I think it is pretty unremarkable for the price (JPY6,500 in Tokyo).

yeah the new royal brackla is way better then the old styl bottels i mean the blue ones royal brackla was always same as glenlivet 40 procent i open a old bottle of this en i had the new royal brackla 12 years old yeah the new one 46 procent is os good en the old one is not that good basically water down i am big fan of the new royal brackla new bottels good review ralpfy really good you know youre stuff bro we need more people like you 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

I am pretty sure Royal Brackla did not have 46% nc ncf last time I checked - a change for the better I think.

This is definitely a well made whisky. I would rate 1 or 2 points higher. However if I put this next to a Glenallachie 12 it has less character and flavour. And GA12 is cheaper.

While I applaud the decision to bottle this at 46%, non coloured & non chill filtered, I feel the cost (£60) of this bottle is way overpriced. Bottling at 46%, non coloured & non chill filtered should be standard practice anyway. I don't see why that should make the product more expensive (for reference Bunnahabhain 12: £40, Deanston 12: £35, Kilkerran 12: £40). The price would make sense for a 15 yo. Making a craft/integrity bottling of a standard 12 yo then sticking a £60 price sticker on it seems quite cynical to me.

Oloroso, unlike PX, sherry monsters are to my liking. The character of the spirit should be complemented, not overwhelmed.

I was about to enjoy a RB 12 with you only to learn we have a different one here in Australia, 40% ABV & nothing noted anywhere (Bottle or canaster) saying unchilled filtered or natural colour. It tastes thin too, no mouthfeel, and no Haze !! Really disappointed.

For a 12 year old this seems expensive at circa £60 online? A bit like the Glenturret 12? Im relatively new to whisky, and I seem to be enjoying ex bourbon casks such as Clynelish 14 or a Deanston 12 that i think are incredibly good value at current prices? That being said I do want to try more sherry casks so is this Brackla a good place to start?

Ncf, no E150 and a tad higher abv is very nice but now this bottle costs twice as much which is not so nice anymore. I daresay I prefer 40%, colouring and filtration if the price is right.
