Thank you so much for your excellent review. I'm a great fan of whisky but too poor to buy the expensive brands. I bought a bottle of WL today for the first time and as usual tasted it as soon as I got home . Found it to be excellent for the price and eager to find out what other people thought. Found your utube series and totally impressed by your unpretentious and informative style. (I always trust a man wearing a flat cap!) Now subscribed and looking forwards to future reviews.

Man, I just tasted a cup of my WL together in sync with this video and it was one of the most satisfying whisky experiences I've had, for real. I love (good) blended whiskys just like (good) single malts, and these reviews not just gives us information about the product but enriches the experience of tasting as well. Thank you so much Ralfy for sharing your knowledge with us. Greetings from Brazil.

A simple and uncomplicated whisky I think. Most people won't complain after drinking it, even the most experienced malt mates. They did a good job

Bought a bottle today in Málaga Spain whilst on holiday, 6,99 euro for a 70cl. Bottle. Drinking it neat with a beer on the side, it's smooth and enjoyable. Seems like it's more coloured nowadays compared to your video. Still I like it, even as a hardcore malt lover...

Thank you for the excellent review :) This whisky is highly available here in France, and I enjoy it quite often. I would suggest that you accompany this whisky with some pieces of dark chocolate, something around 70% cacao. The spiciness of the malt in the whisky and the aroma and flavors of the cacao yield a truly magnificent combination, in my opinion. In fact, it would be interesting Ralfy if you could do a vlog about whisky and food combinations. For instance, I could imagine that a peated whisky could go well with some deep BBQed pork ribs :)

I don't think whisky is a good pairing to anything really. Chocolate sure is good with younger stuff that's little rough around the edges. I myself found that white chocolate and gentleman jack quite something. But I think good combos are rare, It's too strongly flavoured for most foods, and than all the subtle notes get wiped out by any food. I think it's a waste for single malt to go with food, unless you take your time or find it affordable. Most whisky is rather sweet to begin with... so it hardly leaves dessert realm imho. I like dark chocolate a lot but I've not found it being such an exceptional partner for good whisky as I'm being told it is... maybe some malts that i've not tried this way, maybe it's just not for my own taste. Whisky accentuates coco flavours but whisky itself gets lost in translation.

For the price, drank neat... It's unbeatable. No mixer needed. Maybe a cube or two, but otherwise... If you've got the money go for it, but this does the job. GOOD and yet CHEAP whiskey. Great review!!!

Hi Ralfy, it's very hot here in the Channel Islands.Shorts & t-shirt weather. I see you are still wearing your coat & bonnet. Is it cool in the Isle of Man or is it your damp bothy that leads you to dress up for winter. I really enjoy your vlogs.

Ralfy and others, I have such a hard time finding all those notes! The only thing i could discern in the nose was oak. Palate wise, green apples and kiwi (the peel of it), and a coffy/toasty flavor after a while. There is a nice body to it, right? How do you find sooo many notes? I'm missing half of the fun.

Hello Ralfy, French guy here so excuse me for my English. First congratulation for you videos, great guidelines for someone discovering the whisky world. (Not discovering but I'm considering myself a rookie :) Second: I found at at a very small local retailer a 70cl bottle of Sheep Dip 1990 Old Hebridean for 80euros (~68 pounds) and a bottle of Glenfarclas 30yo (old bottleling (like the one you reviewed in the review 300)) for 250 euros (~215 pounds). Should I buy one of them or both ? Thanks

Thanks. I think I will buy the Old Hebridean for sure. But for the Glenfarclas, I'm actually considering buying it for a gift, so sorry to bother you but other question, new Glenfarclas 30yo are cheaper than this Old bottling. So does the an older bottle justify such a price difference ?

Nice to see that the heat wave we see on the telly hasn't penetrated the Manx bothy yet. I've been experimenting with adding a drop of Laphroaig 1/4 cask to a Whyte & Mackay blended whisky (The Thirteen - a decent drop), as per your suggestion. Great fun and very rewarding.

Big fruity sweetens apple/mango? great surprise... but it of tones to pretty significant alcohol bite, manageable only for experienced sipper.... but short spicy/peppery/gingery finish works for it. It sure is very young and not particularly balanced... but hey that's a very solid entry blend. May it sell well because mr red doesn't deserve tenth of it's sales.

So it's just a coincidence that it has the same name as one of my grandfathers "Scottish Rebel" of the same name that fought in the battle of Culloden as a teen, was pardoned if he chose slavery in the colonies instead of the original death sentence for treason, we has able to fight in the Revolutionary War many years later after he escaped his slavery.

Hi Ralfy, have you tried any single malts from 'The English Whisky Co."? I picked up a bottle of single malt spirit from them called "chapter 4", 18 months old, no colour, non chill filtered and 46%. I paid 19$ Canadian for it. I was so impressed I went back and cleaned out the shelf.

Sounds a little edgy, like Black Label, not "blended to the centre" like JW Gold and Blue. For more on old bottle effect, as it applies to miniatures and far older bottles with different chemical glass composition, check out Ralfy's talk with Angus at Mulberrybank Auctions in Whisky Review 307.

You're some distance from being the bad boy of whisky yet, Ralfy - still a lot of truth to be told and a lot of industry parades to be rained on, but you have gone farther than most. It is an illustration, however, of just how much the "good boys" of whisky are in the pocket of the industry that you are "the rebel" by comparison.

Craft presentation of a "spirit" which is only half-way to the age equivalent of being able to be called scotch isn't impressive. It's hard to understand why anyone should care about the "true colour" or "true taste" of a beverage which hasn't really had enough cask time to acquire either in a mature form.

@adi Bansal that's how most traditional English and scottish people talk as they are raised with a decorum. ...yeh kuch jhaad nahin Raha he's just being graceful and articualte. Whiskey is good...smooth chahiye toh blackdog utha...vat 69, black and white and William Lawson are initially harsh on tongue and then go smooth in middle and then have a different end to it. Also depends what type of dri ker you are ...as in Nashe ke liye pite ho ya Buzz ke liye.
