Great video as always! I have a video idea for you guys. Have you ever thought about doing some sort of "transferable skills" video on driving simulators for performance driving? It could be a good quarantine special with most of the world staying inside and it'd be interesting to see how a sim compares to real life.

In the UK we have a lot of tiny French hatchbacks. I love them, in a 1400lb car even 80bhp is fun. Anyway, they have tiny pedals right close together and with a US size 13 foot I need the slimmest, most uncomfy shoes to drive them properly. Totally worth it though.

I drive barefoot too. Sometimes with socks if I long drive. My problem is the tact of the pedal always tear holes on my socks even the thick ones haha. I put my footwear on the passenger seat. If I had any footwear already on, boots, shoes even flip flops, I don't take them off tho it takes space and might get stuck under the pedals, I don't like my floor crowded.

I really enjoy wearing the Merrel Trail Glove (I have the Trail Glove 4) for driving. They do have a durable sole, but there's zero drop heel to toe, and the sole is 11mm thick. Excellent pedal feel, very comfortable!
@clayduval12554 жыл бұрын
I wear the Trail gloves every day for work and they're great! But for my driving focused stuff I prefer the Vapor Gloves, they are almost too thin to wear around anywhere with stones but they provide great pedal feel
@macmurfy2jka4 жыл бұрын
Ha, I wear vapor glove knock offs everyday. Too thin, nah your soles are just wimpy. Trust me I’ve been in minimalist shoes for most of my life (currently 24). That said I think I would prefer the trail gloves for driving. A slightly more stiff and hard sole helps me be more precise.

Vans Slip ons, great feel and easy for heel toe and left foot braking. Comfy too. When I wear flip flops I just take them off driving and go barefoot to do the same driving

Same bro, I’ve tried to drive with flip flops and they often get stuck when pressing the clutch or the gas making the situation rather dangerous. Driving barefoot is really unmatched. Vans are good though, certainly the best shoes for driving I’ve ever experienced.

every old pair of skate shoes I own become my new driving shoes, wear down the heels so they are round and the soul basically is non existent so great feel and a lot of fun. I live in the suburbs though and mostly just take the fun car out for drives so never have to worry about shredding them or stepping on a small pebble that will feel like a boulder, boots for everything else though

By the way, did you know you can tell how somebody drives by looking at the difference between the left and the right heel of the shoes? Big wear difference means that person likes to go a bit faster than regular. Learned this at automotive sales college, they taught us to have a look at this. Have fun observing peoples heels folks ;)

I've found the Merrel Accentor Mid GTX, works well for me. Midway between the full on hiking boot and the training shoes in the video. I really like soft Bogs (or other muck boots sorts so long as they are flexible), the lack of structure makes for good winter driving shoes even though they are tall boots. In our Montana winters I need the good pedal sensitivity since when driving on ice I'm almost always at the traction limit. And the tall boot is handy for when a ditch happens

I found a pair of Porsche branded Adidas driving shoes in a Freds years back! Lol... they were 20 bucks in the clearance section and looked brand new other than a tiny flaw on one of the toe leather sections. I'm not a guy that would pay over 200 bucks for a shoe like this but for 20 bucks I had to get them. They haven't gotten a lot of use and are designed in a way that makes them terrible for walking but for driving I really like them and other than the slightly tacky woodgrain plastic (though it's the same stuff used in the cars) they look awesome. I have no idea how they ended up in a rural Freds but my wife says they were meant for me to have. 🤣

I found this very informative but since I'm a bit too far to the extreme I really struggle with footwear when driving. I wear a US size 15 6E. Due to the width of my feet, I had to take up driving barefoot when I learned to drive manual. With large work boots on I literally cannot drive manual without stepping on all three pedals simultaneously. Even with skating type shoes, I struggle to not accidentally hit the brake with the clutch unless I really focus on the position of my left foot. For years of my life now, because I am addicted to driving manuals, I have worn flip flops all year round, rain and snow included, even in the bitter cold of winter - and I lived in Utica, New York for two years. I always have to take time to put on real shoes if I need it (work, formal occasions) when I arrive. There is nothing I want more than some footwear which is thin enough to allow me to drive with the first 1/3 of my foot accurately but also encompasses my foot and lasts at least a few months.
