I finally bought the sweater that has been on my fashion wish list for a few years now - the Polo Ralph Lauren Iconic American Flag Sweater! It is such a distinctly preppy, and also classic design - I love it so much already.
In today's video I wanted to share how I plan to style the sweater for fall 2020 outfits! I was doing some reflecting on why I have been so drawn to this sweater, and also what makes the flag sweater such a fashion icon. This led me down a little bit of a fashion history rabbit hole of Ralph Lauren and his iconic sweater designs. So I decided to incorporate this into the video, mixing styling tips with a bit of preppy fashion history.
I also briefly go into Americana in fashion - but I feel like I could make a whole video or even series about this topic, as it is so influential in preppy fashion.
I am also aware that Ralph Lauren has strong ties to streetwear fashion, particularly 90s fashion, but I decided to focus on the preppy aspect of Ralph Lauren as that is what I know about, and after all it is more my style!

The description from Ralph Lauren is confusing, but the original flag flown over fort mchenry was restored in 1998, and Ralph Lauren donated a significant amount to that restoration of the historical artifact. Hopefully that makes sense and is an interesting tidbit of American history for you. Always cool to see people embracing our flag across cultures, great video!

I’ve had that sweater since 2003. I also have the denim jacket with the large chenille flag on the back. I’ll probably have them forever!

A red tartan collar popping out works well into autumn/winter and if you like turtlenecks, they look good with it too. It really is more versatile than I realized when I first got one. I love how you’ve paired them with the white shorts... Classic white jeans and a lightweight navy trench are so damn classic with this sweater; It’s my personal favorite.👌🏼

My son and I just got the matching sweater. Absolutely love it. Have always wanted to get it and finally splurged. Would you say you prefer a more tight fit or size up to have it slouchy and over sized? Can’t decide which look I like better (I ordered two sizes, S and M)

Omg we are on the same wave length!! 👽 hehehe I think what finally convinced me to make the purchase was physically trying it on in the store because then I could actually feel how well made it is! It has a really nice weight to it and I could see how beautiful the actual knit design is in person. So I personally think it is worth it and I’m so happy with my purchase xx 💕✨
