Sammiejo your dad in my opinion was Ralphs best lead singer. His phrasing and feel are impeccable. And he can sing a Keith Whitley song with the same emotion. He's one of my favorite underated singers of all time..I enjoyed the few times we appeared at festivals together and got together and jammed. Tell your dad hello from Travers Chandler.

Sammy Adkins is such a great vocalist. Def one of Ralph's best lead singers. It's between him and Charlie Sizemore.

@@edhurt8133 wow, he could play FASTER after drinking!! I bet he was sauced in the KET performance in Lexington called Bluegrass-Bluegrass !!!!! What a performance and hopping episode it was !!! In fact, he did look possibly like he'd been drinking. Keith Whitley was hammering them down as well back then.

@@dabneyoffermein595 yeah them bluegrass boys were big drinkers.. That's how keith whitley got a bad habit that eventually killed him

@@edhurt8133 Whitley was a Clinch Mountain Boy, a Bluegrass boy and in other bands too. He had lots of opportunity to score babes and hammer shots. He grew up way too fast. But alcoholism could have been in his family.

I don't know why Ralph was always introduced as Dr. Ralph Stanley, this was only an honorary title given him. A lot of Bluegrass Musicians have been given these honorary titles, but Ralph was the only one I can recall ever being introduced in this manner. Rather pretentious, I think.
