I Review a RAM 1500 Rebel G/T with the 5.7L Hemi engine. I go over the history of the RAM Rebel and talk about why the Rebel is a great truck. I review all the off-road components of the Ram Rebel and finally reveal all the additional components and features you get with the RAM REBEL G/T package. Finally I give my opinion if you guys should buy the G/T

Ram 1500 Transfer Case Review - • RAM 1500 4WD LOCK Test...
I hope everyone had a great long weekend! I got the chance to review this beautiful 2022 Ram Rebel G/T. Firstly as always Ram seems to make beautiful looking trucks and this truck is beautiful.
The Rebel debuted in 2015 trying to compete with other off-road focused trims level like Toyotas TRD off-road package, the Chevy Z71 off-road and the Ford fX4 packages.
Now originally when this Rebel came out in 2015 it was rumored to compete with the ford raptor but after looking over the specs it was not anywhere close to the Raptor. in fact I was pretty disappointed with the original Rebel.
the Original rebel came with 2 open differentials which is not representative of an "off-road truck"
However with the fifth gen Rebel Ram really stepped up there game and made a great truck. this Rebel comes with a 1" lift, larger 33" tires, wider stance, skids plates, off-road bumpers, tow hooks, true locking transfer case, 3.92 gear and finally a fully locking rear differential.
All of those features are fanstastic and make this Ram Rebel honestly a great off-road worthy pick up truck. but the beauty is you can still use this RAM Rebel truck like an actual pick up truck. it can tow like 11,500 lbs and has a decent payload. something the Raptor and TRX can't do.
Now I love the Rebel is is 100% worth the cost of getting and it looks great too. But the G/T package had me a little underwhelmed
The G/T package adds 2 performance features, ram air intake and a cart back exhaust. the exhaust actually sounds really good and I'm a fan. but here is the kicker. the 5.7 hemi does not gain any power. it remains at stock power figures of 395 hp and 410 Lb-ft of torque. which is very diapointing.
the interior comes with some additional stuff as well like a console shifter, paddle shifters and other goodies. but to me RAM should of increased the power numbers.
The real reason why I would not buy the G/T is because they removed the off-road worthy locking transfercase with the clutch pack style transfercase. so you are actually losing off-road performance with the G/T which sucks.
the G/T package is a cool thing to have but personally I think you would be better to just stick with a normal Rebel.
Hope you guys liked the video!

Alex, I agree RAM 🐏 should have bumped the HP! I know it's not advertised, but rumor has it that with the Cat-Back exhaust and the cold air intake, it's good for another 10-15 ponies. MoPar or NO car!

Great video. I just purchased one (no G/T). Im not a fan of the dial shifter myself but if you can live with it, throw on a cold air k&n conical set up, borla exhaust cat back and you have a G/T with a 48-12. Thats what im gonna do! 1 inch level kit and 35s coming as well. 😊

I was looking at buying the GT package until I watched this video and saw the performance difference between the 2 transfer cases. Then I started to look for a Rebel without the 4wd auto feature. Thanks for the informative video.

For a $3000 option I think the GT is a waste unless you want a console shifter and paddle shifters on a truck. People think my choice in the rebel vs the Laramie was a waste of about $4000 because of the color scheme I couldn’t get on the Laramie. To each their own.

Bought a fully loaded 23 gt. I love everything about it except maybe the feature where the brakes lock up if you get to close to someone whose turning say right into a driveway and you try to roll around them...freaks me out every time. But I agree with him. I wish the gt trim added more hp. But the shifter over a dial was totally worth it for me. The shifters I've only used for fun a few times but could really come in handy for towing if needed. I'm overall happy with my truck however the final price being $75k after a trade in was a bit much. My first new car purchase and probably could have negotiated more but oh well..I'm only 30 with a $75k truck I could afford to buy so I'll just take it as a win with a lesson learned as well

Ive had both transfer cases and elocker/limited slip for years and i would take the 4auto with the limited slip anyday. And i wheel lots. Having limited slip and being able to spin both rear tires at speeds higher then 30km is much better then locking at 30km and under. This isn't a rock crawler by any means.. lockers on the jeep, limited slip in the truck for the amazing doughnut ability.. dont anyone be upset about having the auto 4 wheel drive. Ive never been stuck in my trucks with it. Tires are much more crucial to equation

I think there’s QUITE a few vehicles out there right now that are more capable off-road. I think you wanting Ram to push another vehicle into that already over saturated market is a little on the shortsighted side. Not everyone WANTS to take their $76k (US) truck out to MOAB and rock crawl, flip it over, thrash it. This isn’t THAT truck, no matter how badly you were hoping to get ALL the fancy nuggets that you wanted in a package that looks this good and at this price point. I get it. I’ve had the Tacoma, and I currently have a Jeep Wrangler. I live off grid on the top of a mountain in Montana. It’s VERY rough up here. But I just think that this truck is a capable fire-roader+, and handles pavement fantastically. Super comfortable, possibly THE most spacious & comfortable 1500 on the road. If you want all that other stuff, shell out the $30-60k (US) for the Raptor, pimp it out, and enjoy! But…at that price…not many could afford to do that or even WANT to take it off road. I’m adding this to my garage this summer. I’ll be towing with it & traveling all over the continent. And I won’t feel bad like I would in a Tacoma 🤣 👍🏼

14:45 power upgrade - a Rebel GT should be dyno-d ... RAM might have been chosing not to bother with the added HP so that they can save the paperwork. Buy or not? Not for this price. Add 4k and get a TRX. I agree that overall a standard Rebel will be the better choice for those not looking for a TRX.

My biggest problem with the Rebel and Power Wagon trims are the drab black plastic drooping monopoly man moustache. That and the same cheap black plastic on the hood. It just cheapens it up so much. I don't like chrome any better but the sport trim without the sport hood seem to have the best look. In the interior though, those red accents are very nice.

Great review of the GT but you forgot something that comes in the GT that most people would probably not want as an option. The E-Torque system that was introduced back in 2019 was a feature that is supposed to help give you a bit more torque off the line but with that came the ridiculous Start/Stop feature. I currently own a 2017 Dodge Durango GT and have never liked having it in my vehicle. I always forget that it's on everytime I start up and when it restarts the motor, it shutters the whole vehicle. Not to mention how much wear and tear it's probably affected my alternator. I believe the E-Torque motor is supposed to help reduce that initial shutter but I still believe it's still unnecessary to have since it doesn't help with fuel economy.
@TheGettyAdventures
@TheGettyAdventures Жыл бұрын
This truck did have that but I was not aware it came standard with the G/T package. that is a large turn off for me. the E-torque did does nothing in my opinion. I couldn't feel a difference and when I'm averaging like 11.5mpg pretty sure it does not matter lmao. thank you for the info sir!

Where I live rains so much and my rear end slips so much on my rebel on turns and makes it look like I don't know how to drive unless I granny it. I have good tread (16ths of an inch) on 33" nitto ridge grapplers. Maybe city tires would help.

Or is it better to take all these with 4wd auto. The other day I drove a Limited configuration, in a snow-covered city in 4wd auto mode, the car behaves very stably. I have a 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn Quad Cab with the 3.21 gears and I can honestly say I wish it had the 3.92 gears. My little brother used it last year to haul his race car to the track one week since his truck was down and I know for a fact that with having the 3.21 gears it was more than likely at the maximum weight if not just little over. Needless to say in the future if I purchase another Ram 1500, I’ll be making sure it’s equipped with 3.92 gears.
@JohnSmith-ev1sm
@JohnSmith-ev1sm Жыл бұрын
The 3.92/3.21 is hugely misunderstood. All you gain with the 3.92 is a little more power from a dead stop. As soon as you're in second gear and beyond, the transmission changes your gear ratios, and both trucks have almost identical gear ratios available except when in a dead stop and when both are in 8th gear. In other words, when you're in the city, merging onto a freeway, or passing a trucker on a hill, there is absolutely zero difference in performance between those 2 options. You're best bet is to think of the 3.92 as an extra "granny gear". As soon as you're out of first, zero advantage.
@timothywilson8526
@timothywilson8526 Жыл бұрын
@@JohnSmith-ev1sm But the higher gear ratio offers more weight towed allowed, right?
@JohnSmith-ev1sm
@JohnSmith-ev1sm Жыл бұрын
@@timothywilson8526 The 3.92 has a higher tow rating because it can accelerate faster 0 to 60. But in the real world? 0 to 15 doesn't matter. I need more power on a freeway on ramp, or overtaking a trucker up a hill, in all those scenarios that matter both trucks will perform the same. It's a win on paper only. By all means get the 3.92 if you want to tow, but just remember that if you're unhappy with the 3.21 while towing you wont' notice any meaningful change when switching to a 3.92. These trucks have 8 gears, the transmission will drop as needed to put you in equivalent gear ratios.
@TheGettyAdventures
@TheGettyAdventures Жыл бұрын
This is completely wrong. 3.92 gears effect every gear. the ratio of second gear in the ZF 8 speed 3.14:1. with 3.21 gear ratio in second gear your FINAL Gear Ratio is = 10.1:1. With 3.92 gears in second gear (with a ratio of again 3.14:1) your FINAL Gear ratio is = 12.3: 1 you multiply the transmission gear ratio (3.14) by the differential gear ratio (3.21 or 3.92) and that's how you get your final drive ratio. I literally do this for a living and differential gear rations effect your final drive ratio on every gear. if you are going 100km/h down the highway a truck with 3.21 gears with be at a lower rpm then a truck with 3.92.

@JohnSmith-ev1sm

The "problem" is that even 4 low/high are engaged via the clutch. So in theory slip can occur in 4 low with this transfer case. In practice it appears to be a non issue, 4 auto has been in use in various trucks for many years now and it just works better for most people.

Also, I understand your perspective on the transfer case but these arguments are always framed from the perspective of "what is the owner actually going to do with the truck". 98% of people are far better off with the auto transfer case especially when you live in Canada with snow. How many people actually rock crawl with a brand new half ton? "Better" is therefore "worse" for the overwhelming vast majority of people. Clutch pack slippage is not a thing in the real world. If someone like you buys this rebel to go offroad every chance they get, yep the non-auto transfer case is better. For guys like me who daily drive it, do a lot of towing and take their trailers down dirt roads or grassy slopes etc, the auto is the best option. And that is the vast majority of rebel owners.
@TheGettyAdventures

I mean maybe. but if you don't need an "off-road" truck just buy a normal 4x4 1500. If you are buying the Rebel you might as well get the off-road focused transfer-case. like why have a rear locker then, most aren't going to need it either. For me It's about having the option and knowing that with the Rebel you are getting better equipment in case you need it. I will say though my power wagon and my old 96 chevy both with real transfer cases bite much better in the snow then my 17 ram 1500. they all had duratracs on them and it was very noticeable feeling the lag when in 4wd with the ram 1500. Either way, you have some good points and I appreciate the comment!
