Very Good video. My wife and I towed a 67 Mustang on a UHaul trailer, with a 2017 Big Horn Ram 1500 quad cab 3.6, on a 800 mile drive on Interstate highways. I might add it was during the summer months, so we also had the a/c running. The truck performed very well. We were surprised the V6 had adequate power for towing. Yes, timing and building up speed was the key.

Yes agreed with you everything, I have 18, Bighorn package. For light duty pickup truck this V6 is more then you need. Got very good HP and torque. No need for V8 on this light duty truck chassis. Even with V8 you got same light duty parts on truck like V6. I can see V8 in 2500 heavy duty truck, but V6 is just amazing engine. Plus Variable valve timing VVT works great. On highway speed in 8th gear two cylinders shut off and engine works on 4 cylinders which is good for fuel economy. I'm really pleased with V6!!

The V6 doesn't have cylinder deactivation to run on 4 cylinders. Only the Hemi's have that feature

Great video. A tough load but you aren't pedal to the floor the entire time. That's a great way to drive and enjoy your vehicle and not drive it into the ground, just for a few minutes of time saved on route. Gas consumption that you measured was fantastic and many people will save lots of cash by driving with your style. It can mean a huge cost saving when towing over long trips and years of ownership. We have a 2019 v6 1500 classic for work and it's a dream to drive, super quiet and comfortable. I look forward to getting one for towing a 4000 lb travel trailer, which should handle with ease. No reason to go for a midsized truck when a full size with a solid v6 will do the job with zero concern and no compromise.

Great video. It is for some of the same reasons you show why I opted for the 2021 Ram 1500 Big Horn with the eTorque V6 (Pentastar) 4x4 with the 3.55 rear. If I ever need more than 7k towing capacity, I'm calling someone.

What would be some common temp numbers for tran oil and coolant??
@jp108710 ай бұрын
You're ratings that you're spouting are from the wrong truck. That's a crew cab, not a quad cab. And if it's a 4x4 like you say, then your max tow rating is 7,400lbs. If that's a 2wd, then your max tow rating is only 100lbs more. Might want to check into that, but either way you're completely maxed out. Also, a couple very important things you never mentioned: 1) transmission temp. That is much more important to keep an eye on than engine temp when towing. Heat will kill a transmission much sooner than an engine. 2) The tongue weight once that trailer was loaded. I'm betting that the max tongue weight is 500lbs for your hitch is, and with the way your truck was squatting, I'd say you were well over that.

This is bad advise ,V8 is night and day difference when towing. Notice the RPMs while going up the grapevine. Towing with the V6 will wear the engine and transmission out much faster. Travel trailers need the V8 with low gear, if you're running a business get the V8. If I'm shopping for a used truck I avoid a V6 if I know it's been used to pull a travel trailer..

@bee23332 жыл бұрын
Why is the torque lower then the horsepower
@dano71452 жыл бұрын
Torque isn't typically a strong suit of non-turbocharged V6 engines. After all, V6s like the Pentastar were initially (and mainly) designed for duty in cars and minivans. Still, as this and other videos show (not to mention lots of viewer comments), a modern V6 can be a very capable and efficient engine...even in a pickup truck. I own a Dodge Caravan with the Pentastar V6, and it has been a trouble-free, "no complaints" experience. Even so, being partial to Chrysler vehicles, I am pleased and impressed at the number of positive comments from owners of V6 Rams.! If I buy one, I will definitely choose the V6, though I may opt for the 3.55 gear ratio (instead of the standard 3.21). I'm still pondering that decision.

The fuel mileage difference isn’t as big as people claim. I’d choose the 5.7 HEMI over this engine even though I’m sure it’s fine. Resale it’s always easier to sell a V8 truck compared to a V6. More capability = more money.
