Jentayu appeared in ancient Malay literature work known as Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa aka Kedah Annals, basically about history of ancient Malay Kingdom of Langkasuka but with Hindu influence. In Merong Mahawangsa universe, the depiction of Jentayu quite different. It's in a form of giant Magical Peacock-like bird resembling Phoenix. And there's another one called Garuda/ Geruda, a giant magical bird that resemble Eagle.
