My son wanted to learn german language solely to understand Rammstein's lyrics. (then he were 9, now he is 12) Last weekend I took him to his first ever Rammstein concert and it were a BLAST. And to see him throw his hands up in air and yell in excitement when this particula song started.. He sang along, lived the moment as we should, and were full of smiles afterwards. Best evening ever.

Their music is great on its own. But understanding the lyrics and the meaning behind their songs really adds another layer to the whole experience.

Rammstein fan from the UK here, I know a good amount of German but no where near fluent. I personally like knowing the original German lyrics to be able to sing along and the translation to understand the meaning of the songs. There's a lot of double meanings in Rammstein songs that can get lost in translation but if you know a bit of German you can pick up on them. When I saw them over here last year one of the best parts of the show was hearing 30,000 people in a stadium in the middle of England sing entire songs in German. So much fun!

Hi from Germany. I’m older than you 😊 I‘m a fan since their beginning. I’ve used their music for the funeral of my dear hubby four years ago. I‘ll go to two of the three Berlin shows in July. There are several more all over Europe. If you ever decide to see any band in the world live, this should be it. You‘ll never know if there will be another chance. The time to see them live is NOW. Don’t waste this chance. Check out the dates and go if you have any possible chance. If you need help give a shout out. And one last thing: Show, music all fine. But the lyrics are such an important part of the whole Rammstein experience. 🤘🏻❤️‍🔥🤘🏻

Hi OldSkuleNerd! 40 year old guy from Sweden here. They are on tour right now in Europe with their insane stage. If i were you, i would try to get to one of their concerts ASAP. They are not getting younger but still they surprise me. I thought that it would be their last tour when i saw them in 2020, but here we are 3 years later and they are still going. But still, take your chance to go to their unreal shows as soon as you possible can. 2020 was my last visit to their show, my first was in 1999. They shocked me in 1999 and they still shocked me in 2020, this band is everything. So again, my advice to you dear OldSkuleNerd, go and get a ticket for a stadium tour ticket as soon as you possible can. You never now when their last tour is and you dont want to miss out on this insane experience they give you! Take care!

I’m from Scotland and don’t speak German other than what I’ve learned through Rammstein. I think their lyrics are so clever with multi levels and so much humour it’s a shame to miss out on them. My opinion is to look into the lyrics - it doesn’t detract from the music but actually adds to it. I also think it’s possibly better to see a band like this at one of their own gigs rather than at a festival. At a festival the audience atmosphere can be diluted because not everyone is a fan of every band there. At a Rammstein show everyone is there to see Rammstein and it’s an even better atmosphere. Just my opinion though 😊

I've seen Rammstein live several times. My advice is to see the band on tour, not at a festival. Because when they organize the concerts they use a lot more special effects to create the perfect atmosphere than at a festival where they are just one band of many. Greetings from Germany

I can't tell you what you have to do. But I can tell you how I did. I was born and raised in a country that no longer exists in the world. My mother tongue is from the Slavic language group (that is, in structure and sound very far from the Germanic language group, which includes both German and English). I heard about Rammstein in 1998 and immediately fell in love with this music. I fell in love with it so much that I started to care about what they were talking about with such passion in their songs. I started to learn German - with Rammstein songs it's easy and educational (Till's poetic language is a very good literary skill, as a poet Till is very strong and to learn from his poetry is to set the bar high). And now I already live in Germany and speak German. I've been to several Rammstein concerts (the first one back in the Mutter Tour years, in 2002). The German language is beautiful. But most important thing I would like to say: Till's lyrics are one of the most important instruments in Rammstein music. Excluding the understanding of the lyrics, the meaning of what Till sings, deprives their music of a huge layer of meaning. There is a big difference in perceiving a song without and with understanding the lyrics. I think that understanding the lyrics is just as important as hearing the guitar, bass, and other instruments in the song. And I find it strange, and even disrespectful, to ignore this instrument, to ignore Till's work and talent as a poet. Greetings from Germany 😊

From the UK. I'd say get a ticket for somewhere, anywhere you can and just go wherever you can get a ticket. I am travelling to Madrid and Paris to see them and I suspect that this year's shows may be the last big gigs. It's not really a matter of picking and choosing any more, it's a case of just go wherever you have to if you want to see them.

Greetings from Germany. Love your haircut. I've been to Rammstein twice...munich and berlin. You must see them live...its mindblowing. If you want to understand the text you'll have to learn German. But even without understanding the text you will be carried away. Especially if you are standing in front of the stage in the fire zone. If you should buy tickets, then definitely in the fire zone. The beaty of Rammsteins music writing is that they include phrases or words meant to be called back to them from the audience. Those parts and some choruses you definatly could/should pickup. Ither than that it is most about the experience. Greetings from Sweden

You need to go with it, I'm from the UK and we sing in German along with them lol. I really love that this song and others are worth doing both the live and the official vid as you get two sides - the official vid gives you more about the song being about the media and the Gladbeck hostage situation while the live is Till and the crowd

Hey, OldSkuleNerd! I am a German man living in Helsinki, Finland. I was lucky enough to get tickets to see my favorite band from my home country come to my now (new) home country Finland on the 28th of May. It was my 2nd time seeing them. As a German i can obviously sing along, but I noticed in the crowd that some people were lost when Till wanted the crowd to sing/answer which made me sometimes stand out as i am screaming my lungs out while my "neighbors" are silent. That doesn't include the likes of "Du Hast" or "Ich will" since most fans know the words that they are supposed to say. I think knowing the words for "Du Hast" and "Ich will" will be enough to feel part of the crowd and that you brought something to the show, while at other songs you kind of stand out if you know the words (excluding shows in Germany). For the song "Engel" for example they even put up the lyrics on the big screens to make people sing along aswell.

I have been in Minneapolis last year flew over from Germany with my son. The differnce is the same as in sports events between Europe and the US. The best (and cheapest) places in a Rammstein concert ist general admission (standing no seat place). In MPLS we experiend most Americans want their seat this is not in Europe and you are not that much in touch with the band. If you have a standing general admission you are totally in the party, meet new people and have fun together even if you have not seen them before. I was in Helsinki/Finland last Saturday and made some nice Finnish Buddies while waiting to start the show

I've been a Rammstein fan since 1998 and absolutely love the boys. they are constantly evolving and reinventing themselves. I didn't really pay attention to the lyrics when I started with Rammstein. BUT !!!! You have to listen to or read the lyrics!!!! Especially now with their current album "ZEIT"..... This album really makes you think. the lyrics really touch you.... oh and unfortunately I haven't managed to go to a concert yet 😪 either didn't get a ticket or overslept 🤷🤦😪.... my tip to you.... try to go to a concert go!!!!! the guys aren't the youngest anymore.... TILL is already 60 years old.... the guys are currently touring around Europe. if you also learn German, it would of course be great👍..... We love Rammstein here in Finland! 14 times they have been in Finland. I've seen them twice (love them). Btw. Till Lindemann was nominated to be an Olympic swimmer in Moscow in 1980, but due to an injury, the whole sport had to stay. Richard Kruspe (guitar) founded the band Rammstein in 1994 and the line-up has remained unchanged since then. A couple of years later, Lindemann acquired training as a pyrotechnician.

Hey Old Skule, I'm Daniel from Germany, 38yrs old. So in the age of just 8yrs, Rammstein started slowly to take over especially due threw the controverse, hard, irrefutable presentation as a Band with very disturbing, but still poetic lyrics. Me myself first started to be into Hop Hop mostly as a teenager found to Metal and Rammstein just a little later became a big fan pretty quickly. Long story short: Last month I was at my first Rammstein concert in Groningen (Netherlands). Of course it was awesome! A lifetime-experience for sure. But to answer your question about getting into understanding the language and so the meanings behind the lyrics: As a person, who really sets priority in messages and meanings, even if the meaning is just beeing funny sometimes I would learn the Rammstein-lyrics in your case. It's not necessary to learn the whole language, and it would be hard, because Till writes in very poetic ways with lots of double- and sometimes triple-meanings behind. So for the sake of your mental health just try to translate the lyrics and figure out in which parts the crowd mostly joins in. 😉 I truely enjoyed just chanting "RAMM-STEIN!!!" "DU! DU HAS(S)T!! DU HAS(S)T MICH!!" "MEIN HERZ BRENNT!!!" and so on and so on. It's such a fun. While in my area of the crowd were mostly dutch people who stayed quiet and gave me funny looks when I just suddenly shouted my stuff. 😂😂

I am from Austria and fan since 1997. I love Rammstein for all, because of the lyrics, because they remind me at the "old once" like Schiller or Goethe sometimes. Sometimes I think Till and I are born in the wrong century. He writes in "the old way" and I paint "in the old way" (besides many other stuff). He is more successful in General. Not only for a better understanding you should learn the songs at least so good you can, in my opinion, also out of respect to the six fellers and their work. Beliefe me, they really have even a bigger smile, when they realise, you know, what they are singing. Thanks for the reaction. ❤

From the Netherlands here. Rammstein is touring now. They just did Lithuania and Finland and they will be playing in Denmark next. I do not know where they will tour after this tour. It could be a outside of Europe, but I doubt that. I also think they will not play on festivals anymore. Their stage and show is too big. If you see Rammstein for the first time, make sure you buy Feuerzone tickets. Those tickets are for the first section close to the stage. And if you ever consider seeing Rammstein in Europe, just book the show in a city or country you like. Rammstein is always good and will never disappoint. You can combine it nicely with the Swiss Alps, sightseeing in Paris, the beautiful Budapest or Rammstein's home address, Berlin. Extra note: In the populair city's Rammstein is playing several shows. For example 4(!!) evenings in a row in Germany, 2 in a row in the Netherlands, 3 in a row in Belgium, and they are all sold out. So you can see the show several times. But it will be the same show. Not like Metallica, 2 shows with 2 different set-lists.

I do not think, there is another Rammstein-tour, because Till has after this his Solotour. It starts in November, but also has a special one at a US festival in September (if I have it right in my mind, because I did not learn the dates by heart). Fact is, he is touring with his solo-project at the end of the year.

Hi OSN, I am from UK, and have only seen Rammstein once live. It was the best night of my life. Personally, I hate listening to them with subtitles. I will look up the translation after listening to a song multiple times. The problem is that a lot is lost in translation. The best way to learn the “callbacks” is to watch live versions of the songs and sing along. That is what I do, as i love them live…… I am sure that I got lots of the rods wrong and made no sense when belting out my lyrics but I didn’t care, I was blissfully happy and high as a kite for days after the concert.

10:38 I'm from Germany and Rammstein actually performs often enough in the USA. I think most recently this year, so 2023 or 2022, I'm not sure, in any case there were, I think a total of 10 or 12 concerts most New York, Chicago Los Angeles usually twice in a row, that would also be an option, otherwise I would recommend France instead of Germany because in France the fans are more active than in Germany itself and in Mexico the fans are also more active and sing more than in Germany but if you want to go to a festival, I would just learn the chorus I would just look at what the set list is from the last concerts. it won't be changed much if there is no new one Album from rammstein The interaction with the audience doesn't Happen so often, but if you know the chorus in German and if you know what it means in English, then that's actually enough.

I am from Switzerland and I saw Rammstein live here. I was also at a festival in Germany and I can tell you it is worth watching there. For example the band Chemical Brothers were allowed to do so much more in Germany then in Switzerland cause of the laws there. For Rammstein you dont have to learn much german to enjoy. But for a song like "Ich will" it is worth to know what he sais and therefor the subtitles here are good choice. Like you mentioned Till is interacting with the crowd and they reapond to hes questions. This feeling when he asks "can you hear me?" and the whole crowd screams back with "we can hear you" is on a whole another level. It is such an awesome experience to do that. Thats why I would advice you to be able to go with the crowd, it enhances the moment so much more. Greetings from Switzerland.

I am german and as a kid I started to listen to Rammstein. I understood most of the deeper lyrical meanings much later. Its worth to look up the translations but its very difficult to translate everything like a german speaker would understand it. Very often Till makes references to german sayings and stuff like that. One good example for sure is "Du Hast"

Hey OldSkuleNerd, when you're in Europe and you're visiting festivals here, you might consider M'era Luna Festival in Hildesheim / Germany as well: Its Gothic / Alternative / Medieval Metal / EBM / and has about 25.000 visitors. There are songs from Rammstein where it is good to know / understand the lyrics and there are songs where it is essential to understand the lyrics. The difficult thing is, that they often have at least a double meaning. Of course understanding the lyrics while you're listening to them is a fantastic thing and worth putting effort into learning German. Greetings from the German-Dutch concert photographers who knows and loves Rammstein from their first alum on, but who -very unfortunately never seen / shot them live.

OldSkule I´m from Portugal, been a fan for 25 years, saw them once live. I don´t know jack of German but here´s what I did: I saw the translation of the song titles of all their songs and read the lyrics of all my favourite ones (a lot of them) once while listening to the music just to get the feel and meaning. That was it, I now know some words in german because of that and at least know what every song title means so I´m not that oblivious. But the main thing is, like you said, the great music, the feel, the show, etc. The concert was amazing because all of that, knowing the song titles and a bit of the lyric meaning just added a bit. In conclusion....you don´t really need to understand lot of the lyrics to have a blast. Except maybe for this song and video beacuse of the interaction. Cheers!

American here who saw them last summer. I started learning German thanks to these guys because I wanted to understand even though I agree it's not necessary in order to enjoy the great music. I am far from fluent but it is kind of cool when I understand some songs without looking at translations. It's on my bucket list to see them in Europe, too. I think that would be the ultimate Rammstein experience.

Since I recommended this song, I can agree to previous replies. Understanding the lyrics from Rammstein adds more depth into their songs. Add the heavy riffs and you fully understand the power of this band. Since I am bilingual, I can totally understand the power the german language has on non-native speakers but that's the reason I picked this one. and recommended subtitles :) Crowd interaction and the depth of those actually simple lyrics makes it great to watch. About learning german, it is a difficult language and Rammstein uses double meaning of words in their songs so it will get hairy sometimes. But if you really want to dive into the songs, the lyrics actually matter, because they are good.

Rammstein lyrics are usually not that complicated, double meanings aside. You could easily learn enough German to follow a song like Du Hast or Ich Will. Till sometimes throws in some old fashioned words and phrases in text heavier songs like Rosenrot. Or uses specific vocabulary like in Waidmanns Heil, which needs translation even for native German speakers. Love from Germany! BTW, the haircut really suits you ;-)

hi from Germany,... i am german so for me it's just easy, no need to learn about the lyrics, i understand it anyway. So it's a bit hard to say how to do best. I thing I would listen to Rammstein a lot, and check the lyrics as good as i can before going to a live show. But at the show itself,...just get in and enjoy together with the other people, don't think to much about it. I hope you will get the chance to see them live,... actually the play europe stadium Tour again,...who knows if or when they do the next tour, they are not getting younger. Great reaction btw...!

In the USA people mostly just consume but not actively participate, except maybe the Madison Square Garden concert, where they haven't been to the USA for ten years. But a hall is something completely different than a large open stadium and I would even say it's best if you choose Germany either Berlin Olympic Stadium or I think Munich Olympic Stadium is even better. Take a look at them but live performance Multicam from 2023, that's so crazy

Greetings and Love from Köln/Cologne, Germany. Well, it's been said that it's quite hard and it tooks a long time to learn the german language. Must be difficult. I cannot tell cause i'm born here, hihi..but to know the lyrics and the background stories is a must. Rammstein songs are deep and sometimes with a double meaning. But its quite an expirience even without knowlegde. Hey, btw. Do you know that there a two german dudes having a KZfaq channel called 'Old School Nerds'.? 😊 ...stay safe, buddy PEACE & UP THE IRONS ✌

The best chance to see them would probably be this summer, since it's uncertain when the next tour will be. Very short notice of course so might not be realistic. I believe Lindemann will be touring in the US soon (I don't really care for it myself), it's not the same as a Rammstein concert but it might give you a taste of what to expect. Long term fan of Rammstein, from Norway, I speak a little German but I don't think it's necessary. Perhaps look up what songs they'll be playing and look up the lyrics in advance (especially for the more crowd engaging songs). Or just be there in the moment and enjoy! As for metal festivals in Europe in general I like to look up the reputation of the festival before delving into who is actually playing, as I find a good atmosphere and fun people to be more important than the big names-- obviously it might be worth it for a specific band, but in general I'd much rather go to a concert then.

Hi, Rammfan of 25 plus years from the UK here. I'd say learn the lyrics and also learn what they mean. Even if you just check out the set list and learn the lyrics for those songs then you'll get a better experience. Like you , I missed the last tour. They were performing only 30 miles away but I was too ill to go. I sulked like a teenager for days of not weeks after and I'm not ashamed to admit it. Fingers crossed there'll be a next time.

My 2 cts from Belgium. Seen them 4 times live and a 5th time in august. First of all, I don't think they'll be doing any festivals. Their production has become so big. They have their own unique stage with all the incorporated pyro's, explosives and gas cannisters, which can't be replicated on festival stages anymore. It's just too extensive at this point. So your best bet is to try and score a Rammstein concert ticket for their 2023 tour. And as for German, I don't speak all that much of it myself, but imho you don't need to know much of it to get completely engulfed in the concert.

As a German I can only say: You should absolutly learn and understand the lyrics. The emotional dive become much deeper, if you understand the meanings of the songs........advice of a Rammstein fan since 1997 (first ever heard song was "Du riechst so gut" and became addicted after a few seconds.....

5:44 I'm a big Eminem fan until mmlp 2, after which he himself became an established man that he had always fought against in the past, but even Eminem is now in the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, even though he has nothing to do with rock at all n' Roll has in common.

I'm loving Till's diction. His perfectly rolled rrrrrs and he sticks the landing at the end of his words. That is a pet peeve I have with a lot of newer artists. That baby-ish vocals women have and not pronouncing the words properly. It's ask, not axe. I'm from Canada and love this band so much. My kids introduced me to them in the 90's. I'm 60 now (so Old School too). Try Seeman with Nina Hagen and Apocolyptica. It's a cover of a Rammstein song.

I am from austria but it doesn't matter if you are going to a concert in austria, france, italy or germany; the fans have high energy and you will be dragged by the atmosphere, so you don't really need to learn the language before.

Hi OldSkule. I’m from Sweden and have seen them here on 3 different tours. I can say that their shows are easily one of the best live performances you can experience. But I think you should see them headlining because their stages are insane! Hit me up if you want to ser pics from the 2022 show i Gothenburg

About festivals: For a lot of festivals like Wacken the tickets are sold out long before the line-up is settled. So if you want to be sure that you see Rammstein, I think it is better to get tickets for a Rammstein concert than for a festival where you don't know who'll be playing there. That does not mean that festivals are bad, but if your primary intention is to see Rammstein, you'll might be disappointed with festival tickets. About lyrics: That's a bit tricky. There are songs where it is not necessary to understand the lyrics. Then there are songs with lyrics that are worth understanding them. And there are songs where the lyrics are not enough to understand the song. One problem with understanding Rammstein lyrics (and with translated subtitles) is that they are often written in a poetic way, were you would need to know specific German expressions or multiple meanings of words. Another problem is to have necessary background information. The video to the song "Deutschland" for example is a caleidoscope of (mostly unpleasent) events in German history, sometimes shown in a symbolic way, sometimes shown painfully accurate. Without knowing the referred events and their significance to German history, the pure lyrics don't make much sense. Therefor I would suggest to react to the songs ... especially to the official videos with English subtitles (search for "educated marine rammstein" + song-name on KZfaq). Then you'll oftenly get the additional infos out of the comments to understand the songs.

5:47 so like Dennis Rodman was a long time not in the Basketball Hall of Fame because you was a bad boy and often a dirty player? No basketball fan or journalist ever thought Rodman would be inducted into the Hof, period, but it happened. I think it was over 10 years after his retirement, although others inducted usually after six years and now after three years into the Hall of Fame, but at least he's in there now
