2 жыл бұрын

On 2/22/22, we achieved one of the most significant milestones in company history: the grand opening of our new manufacturing facility, the RAMP. The facility encompasses approximately 250,000 square feet under roof on more than 10 acres in Eugene, Oregon. More than five times as large as Arcimoto’s current manufacturing facilities, the RAMP will be instrumental in achieving mass production of Arcimoto’s ultra-efficient electric vehicles. Other highlights of the show include the introduction of the Faction D1 driverless delivery vehicle, an update on new accessories and doors, and the unveiling of the Smokejumper firefighting vehicle plus the upcoming Mean Lean Machine tilting ebike.

I used Arcimoto as my case study in my Innovation class until their stock allowed me to *retire* from teaching. The true value proposition of Arcimoto is its systems approach to design (i.e., the platform itself, *as well as* the scalable factory design). Mark says it best: "risk reduction." And, you can see how they used their platform to attract third-party software designers. I also teach that the systems approach as used by *software engineers* is the reason that software serial entrepreneurs run circles around traditional manufacturing interests. Tesla (Martin Eberhardt and Elon Musk both former software CEOs) vs. Fisker (Henrick Fisker an automotive design guy) is a good example of this. Hell, yes, I bought more shares at $5.00 ;)

Agreed. The small footprint means you can send in a fleet of them instead of one large truck (or airplane). Autonomously, they could deploy themselves (someday). Terrain will always be an issue in firefighting ("Young Men and Fire" by Norman Maclean), but these days there are forest roads that go pretty much everywhere. Modern firefighting is about containment and fuel-reduction, something the US could learn from the Austrailian Aboriginals. And, yet, with all of this beauty another oil war started yesterday?! Yep, that's what Russia is all about, these days. Well, the US too, truth be told. After all, we are currently the world's *largest* oil producer (11.3M barrels per day). And, didn't we just get through killing 100,000+ Iraqis over what was essentially securing Kuwait's right to slant-drill into their supply? OK I'll stop there. But I love you, Arcimoto!!!

Doors are dead weight and they don't use steel beams for protection like car doors do. I added cargo webbing to enclose the passenger seat area. Very large capacity, so big you can skip the $750 trunk option which is small in comparison. Also it is common practice to just strap in a cooler for groceries.

Not sure on the doors - do they have roll up windows - and is there a heater + AC option? If you are going to spend over $20K, these seem like necessary add ons options. If you live in an area like Texas, you will need both AC and heat.
@darinladd5312
@darinladd5312 2 жыл бұрын
I drive my current Arcimoto right down to 32-degrees, and all you need is bottom doors to keep the wind off your legs (I wear riding chaps, currently). The Arcimoto has heated seats and a defroster that make it pretty comfortable without the wind, and the fairing keeps the rest of the wind (and rain) out. Now, take those doors off and it is built-in A/C at 30 mph+. I live in Eastern WA where it gets -5 in the Winter and +115 in the summer, so yah, Texas.... One last point: every electron spent on heating and cooling reduces range.

Might a rectangular or square tank provide greater stability than the round shape chosen for the fire fighting version, especially where the vehicle may be travelling over uneven ground; less chance of it shifting at the worst possible moment & be commensurate with the shape of the loading bed, possibly affording greater liquid capacity.
@elizabethbottroff1218
@elizabethbottroff1218 2 жыл бұрын
Speculation? They appear to be focused on limiting materials and weight. Spheres and cylinders are inherently stronger & more stable than squares & rectangles.
@pinkelephants1421
@pinkelephants1421 2 жыл бұрын
@@elizabethbottroff1218 You're probably right about weight but I was also thinking in terms of a shape that fitted more more snugly into the carrying bed which is either square or slightly rectangular. Also if applying the liquid weight reduction requirement, you could lower the center of gravity, increasing vehicle stability, by using a rectangular or square container that is lower in height than current cylinder shape, yet retain same volumetric fluid/s.

Dude, you bought at the wrong time!!! Arcimoto was a $5.00 stock when the surge in prices came last year. And, guess what? They're back to $5.00. So, assuming you sold between $11.00 and $31.00 when it surged, it's time to get back in. If you bought at $20.00, then it's time to dollar-cost average that investment! BTW, Arcimoto is no longer a $5.00 valued stock; however, because of the current bear market and the idiotic surge in their stock's price last year, most investment advisers still call it a "hold." They're wrong, but that's because none of their stock analysts are systems engineers, just guys with a finance degree who know how to read a balance sheet, but don't know what it means (i.e., how a balance sheet looks like the company is failing when all they are doing is making a large capital expenditure on ... like ... tooling a large factory). The same thing happened with Tesla when they started producing the Model S. Musk nearly went *bankrupt* during that year as Wall Street kicked them when they were down.

You do not need a motorcycle license to drive the FUV, deliverator, or rapid response vehicles in HI, LA, or FL. (You do need it for the roadster, however.) GA, KY, and WV allow the 3 wheeled Polaris vehicle to be driven with a regular license. Not sure how they classify the FUV, though.

@@popeyegordon Motorcyclists wear waterproof leathers, gloves and a crash helmet. @popeyegordon 2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardmullins2176 We have had time to figure this out. Autocycles don't need helmets. There is no interior as you relate to cars - no carpet, nothing water can damage. Just painted steel and a weather resistant dash. We carry a waterproof seat cover to add when we get out of the seat. When we are ready to go again the seat is dry. We have a great custom fit weather cover available from California Car Cover. We use light rain gear, leather was adopted by bikers because it would not rub through easily and give you road rash but we are buckled in tightly. We can drive barefoot or in flip flops.

@@popeyegordon I only mentioned helmets and leathers in regards to the weather projection used by motorcyclists after your comparison between the two vehicles, and the massive popularity of the former despite the lack of a sealed cabin. This is a false equivalence as motorcyclists are wearing their weather protection, while an arcimoto driver presumably won't be unless they want to drive around in a rain hat and coat so the spray coming into the cabin on a rainy day doesn't soak their clothes. While this may work in places like California, until this has a sealed cabin I don't see it having much appeal in windy countries like the UK, that get an average of 130 days of rain a year (170 in 2020) I like the idea of and technology behind the Arcimoto, but I'm very skeptical about this seeing mass adoption, especially for commercial fleets. A three seater variant could potentially be used as an auto rickshaw in places like India, but I doubt many could afford it. Also, the notion that this will make any meaningful contribution to tackling climate change seems naive at best, and cynical corporate spin at worst. Rather than buy a second or third 'car' as a kind of novelty leisure vehicle, it would be far better for the environment if people walked, cycled or used existing public transport.
@popeyegordon

@@edwardmullins2176 That's total bullshit about you denying lighter vehicles won't help climate change. I owned a motorcycle while living in the HOH rain forest for 5 years, 200 inches a year but when conditions were reasonable the bike saved me from using the car or van I had. Stop with all the ridiculous nit picking about rain gear - there is a trunk in which any number of garments can be ready to use. The whole damn country is going electric. Admit it or not, like it or not. Car makers have all announced their plans very publicly. Arcimoto is on the leading edge of the bell curve representing the change. Smart concerned people want to stop stealing resources from future generations as soon as is humanly possible. Deniers like you are dying off or being 'replaced'.

@@popeyegordon The Arcimoto was designed as a FUV, fun utility vehicle, they are attempting to adapt it to be an emergency response vehicle. Bicycles, motorcycles, ATV, and minivans are currently being used effectively in special use case response situations, my department currently uses bicycles and a John Deer Gator, previously we had a pickup based mini-pumper. A tandem, three wheeler is inferior platform to use as a base as a firefighting or aid vehicle, it has the same width as an ATV but does not have the stability or 4-WD offered in a side-by-side configuration.
