The weirdest way I've seen someone tie a necktie is Brad Pitt in Ocean's 11. This video was classy, elegant, and a delight to watch. No obnoxious host yelling for me to "Hit that 'Like' and 'Subscribe' button." This video was a breath of fresh air. Subscribed.

This is probably the single best tie tutorial for these knots on the internet. Absolutely agree with his full windsor across tug (I did not realize how many people don't do that), and the half windsor is perfect.

Excellent video - while I’ve been tying these three knots for over 50 years, the little tweaks to obtain the dimple and perfect the knots were really helpful. There’s always something new to learn.

First class tutorial, particularly as it shows how to create the finishing touch dimple. One further tip before putting on a tie; wash your hands with soap and warm water and dry them thoroughly. This removes the natural oils and any dirt from your skin that can soil the tie fabric.

I love the knot you have on your person in this video. Which knot is that? Also, what are your thoughts on a double four-in-hand knot?
@RampleyandCo
@RampleyandCo Жыл бұрын
Hi, Chris has used a Four in Hand knot for his tie in the video. As it's one of our Shantung ties, the heavier fabric gives a good sized knot. We don't tend to use a double Four in Hand, and go for either a standard Four in Hand or a Windsor if we want a larger symmetrical knot. Thanks for the comment!

In From Russia with Love, Red Grant wore his red/blue zig zag Royal Engineers tie, tied with a Windsor knot. Bond thought it showed too much vanity, and was often the mark of a cad. Bond did not say traitor.
@Shpeil
@Shpeil 2 ай бұрын
With that maroon striped tie, and the wide cutaway collar that you're wearing, your four-in-hand knot is just not filling the gap. I'd recommend the prattsburgh knot (aka pratt knot aka shelby knot) to remedy that. It's wider at the top.
@sherilynprice2711
@sherilynprice2711 5 ай бұрын
The four-in-hand knot is better for lightweight summery fabric suits. The half-windsor almost always hangs lop-sided, whilst the full windsor knot is for a more refined look for fall and winter fabric in men's suits.

Half Windsor is the only one I use. Unless it's a knit tie - then I have to opt for the 4-in-hand to stop it looking massive.
@RampleyandCo

We were actually having this discussion in the office a few days ago, and concluded it really comes down to personal preference. Having a larger knot from time to time is not a bad thing for a bit of a change of pace, as long as there is some sort of relative proportion to the size of your collar and lapels. Thanks for the feedback!

How exciting! For an event just below Black Tie, consider a classy cocktail attire. Traditionally, you'll want to wear a suit in navy or grey, pair it with a white or light-coloured shirt, a darker tie, and dress shoes.

My goodness .. what school did you go to ? nobody who actually knows from their Father or school how to tie a tie ever 'teased a dimple' !!! It's called a 'flute' .. Def - 'Architectural' an ornamental vertical groove in a column. make flutes or grooves in. "the wood has been fluted to resemble Greek columns" Similar: grooved channelled furrowed ribbed corrugated ridged. and in my opinion, never suggest what you preference or dislike is as you will surely alienate many watching. Note: a good car salesman always asks what is your prefered colour and then agrees with you as likes and dislikes are subjective.

Thank you for your comment. At Rampley & Co. we don’t shy away from sharing our opinions as we are often asked and encourage an open conversation around the opinions of others. We obviously don't want to alienate but hope to inform (but recognise not everyone will agree!) Whilst we have your attention; we’d love to know, what is your preferred tie knot?
