Thank goodness you didn't have a tank that ignored chat, pulled immediately every time, and then ran circles around the boss, constantly cleaving the party every few seconds. I appreciate your positive and constructive attitude! I feel that too many mentors go into mentor roulette with a negative attitude already and that causes them to give up easily, but instead you always try to help people and assume the best! In all honesty I get the whole "you're more critical of jobs you take seriously/main" feeling. I'm more than willing to just let stuff ride if it works but if I see someone play machinist and never use Wildfire it gives me that kind of feeling, too.

That Ramuh reminded me of the first time i ever cleared that fight way back in ARR. It was through the DF in 2.4. I was tank and the other tank was super helpful and thoroughly explained all the mechanics for everyone. Also had macros for when mechanics were coming. 2 wipes and we cleared. Still one of my favourite xiv memories.

As a whm main myself, I can say that it took me a LONG time to stop keeping regen up at all times on the tank. *Especially* after a couple month run back in ShB of near constantly having tanks (almost exclusively GNB and PLD for some reason) in Mt. Gulg not seem to know what a mitigator is. While the WAR and DRK tanks needed almost no heals fairly consistently. Why this was? Who knows. Now-a-days though, I just forget to use lily heals because the roulettes throw me into so many low level dungeons that in the random high level ones my muscle memory forgets I even HAVE half my kit..

I will say, becoming a main to a certain job type will very quickly make you notice mistakes, being a tank main. I tend to ignore certain things like what mitigation is used when because that is like, ultra advanced stuff to keep track of that's really not necessary (Aside from BloodWhetting and Heart of Corundum Those should always be on cooldown), but generally, I can tell very quickly when someone isn't mitigating at all

So in the defense of the defensive healers, I don't usually find it a problem when it happens save that it's not optimal and can slow a run down. There are definitely worst case scenarios where a healer blows their good abilities early when they should've saved them but that feels like an entirely different issue. I've heard alot of reasoning for why this happens though such as some players not knowing how other jobs abilities work, not grasping why overhealing isn't optimal, or just not trusting the tank to use their mitigations; I've definitely had a few too many dungeons where a tank tried to do no mitigation runs for inexplicable reasons. All to say it's hard to know what a person you get in a roulette is gonna do and while you are absolutely in the right about this it's also understandable that a healer might choose to come in being proactive and defensive just in case. I think that we'd both agree that even if that is the mindset you are coming in with it's appropriate to adjust and not adjusting is also a skill to work on. I love your content btw I just wanted to add a potential perspective of why a healer might have gotten into the habit of this.

As a free trial white main I like to pop regen right before a pull just for safety since I almost always get a Dark Knight as the tank who doesnt really mit much on trash and at this point its just muscle memory

I will add a little more about Ramuh ex as someone who did that over 30 times already in mentor roulette. Damage of Thunderstorm is dictated by amount of orbs on the ground so range dps should try to grab any extra if tank doesn't need anything and there's no need for cancelling tether. Another very annoying thing about Ramuh that doesn't allow for too much carrying is that his seduce can be very mean because he will skip chaotic strike sometimes(high echo&ilvl does that) so two random players will just die after being stunned for like 30 seconds (surely, this won't happen to both healers hahahahaha, (I am very mentally stable)). I am not so sure about two tanks having to be knowledgeable about tank swaps, I saw some wild tank mentor players performing so called "asmongold tank swap" on poor sprout and that seemed to be working but I am guessing that tank would have to prepare that plan before Sadly, I don't collect exact time for my mentor roulette but I mostly play between 17-22 on dps and extremes are around 13% of all duties

Couple of fun facts again 1) According to data I've collected (currently in the process of doing 80 mentor runs as each role and recording what duties I get) Tanks are much more likely to get Extreme Trials. After doing 80 runs as healer I got 2 Ex trials, meanwhile I've only done 50 Tank runs and have gotten 9 Ex trials. 2) It's actually possible to do Ramuh Ex with just one tank. It's difficult but it's possible to time your buff to fall of just after then tank buster, which will give you time to go grab 3 more orbs.

17:00 Thanks for asking if the others are fine with soloing the Boss and mentioning it in the Video. I found out that not all Tanks are the same and WAR can solo stuff when I did Mt. Gulg for the first time, died (as Healer) to the Spinning Cube Boss, DPS dieing to lack of Healing and we had to watch the WAR Solo the Boss from like 60% or so. But the Trial and Cutscenes after made me forget about my newfound hate for WAR

Ramuh Ex looks like a fight that is simple on paper, but could be a pain to actually put into action (having never done it myself)

I've found the Ramuh adds are exactly within max melee range, so, while a bit scary, the big donut doesn't pose that much of a problem

Last time I got ramuh ex in mentor the other tank was a gladiator. I told him to sit tight with the healers to make sure they were getting shocked out of charm and gave everyone the run down on the orbs. We cleared after about 40 minutes

Got Ramuh EX as my first "real" mentor roulette extreme on Sage a week ago. I say that because I got a Rathlos Ex much further back but that duty is very different than a normal EX. I had never healed as Sage on a ex, let alone with the level 50 kit, but I did okay. We got past the adds two times before disbanding. Tank one really liked grabbing 6 orbs making healing impossible. Tank 2 did fine but could not propperly swap with 1. In roughly 30m we disbanded.

Healing is my weak point, so I tend to error on the side of a little to much healing vs not enough. That and I have brain fog ever since I had Covid so unless I am doing a dungeon/ raid fairly regularly it might as well never be more than my 2nd time in a dungeon that I haven’t seen in awhile so a lot of times I have to rely on reflexes. Now if I am queuing for something I can take a quick 1-2 min reminder of the mechanics while in que but not something I can do with random ques.

I'm a healer that maintains regen at least most of the time and its not for my peace of mind but the tanks. I've found a lot of tanks seem to get nervous if they see you're a pure healer and you dont put a regen on them so they pull smaller but when they have the regen it seems to be a sign of "my healers got my back" not all tanks are like that of course thats just been my experience so far. I have had tanks get mad at me for letting them drop below half, I experience a l o t of GNB's who will hit invuln at half then panic with 1hp as if they didn't just do that to themselves, and many other things that have lead me to be so defensive that I know I over heal, sometimes it seems the second I start to dps the tank forgets what mit is and tries dying. I do notice good tanks, I don't have to heal as much and I can dps since killing the mobs is mit. On the other side of it I also tank a lot and I do see when healers panic seeing low health on me, I try to allow them the time to pop heals before I invuln and its gotten me killed many times but I want to trust my healers and if I die its not the end of the world. I also look at the healers body language, usually a healer that is right next to me during a pull will want a big pull where as a healer that hangs back isn't as confident and may struggle with large pulls. Most often it is sages that want the biggest pulls from what I've seen and when I see a confident healer I'll go straight for that pull and having gotten that perspective as a tank I now stay in front with the tank during the pull as a healer to show them I've got them. heck I've even had a sage tell me as a paladin not to heal myself which as a newer paladin made it a bit confusing but I listened to my healer and didn't use any healing only mit which worked out fine but I have been in some situations where I'm a second or third healer as a paladin which is funny.

With the caveat that mine is done with summoner, here's some times of day (GMT/BST, I didn't store the actual days) where I got extremes: 12:40am, 11:30pm x2, 11pm x2, 10:15pm, 9:30pm x2, 8:20pm, 7:30pm, 6:50pm, 6pm, 3:30pm, 3pm. Which I think is evenly distributed across 'when I'm likely to do the mentor roulette'. Ramuh accounted for 3, Great Hunt 3 and the Navel 3, others I've only seen once. Seen some heavensward but no later except great hunt. If you want to try to make use of my data (~200 runs across two people) I can send you it, but I haven't really been able to spot patterns myself.

i've never run mentor roulette as i'm not a mentor, BUT i sure used to be a sprout queuing up for ARR extremes. i distinctly remember queuing for Leviathan EX right after daily reset happened, just so i'd be more likely to get a pop. i even queued on paladin to give myself tank queue priority... a little embarrassing now knowing how the community here (eu/light) usually works in terms of extremes, but i had a lot of fun doing that fight back then regardless!

My favorite thing about being a healer, is getting to do damage. On WHM, I mostly only do my HoT and OGCD heal.

I dont remember when it was, or what dungeon it was But i was playing tank on my main, and the whm, would only use regen....on everyone, wouldnt attack because after the regen gets put on the last one, the first ones had 2 seconds remaining and would reapply it Im on console, i dont have a keyboard, i literally stopped attacking to say "you do not need to constantly apply regen on people not taking dmg" One thing i see on other players playing astro 8x+ They will use horoscope And thats it, they wont buff it with helios or aspected And it usually goes out, before an aoe goes off. I even did a savage and asked them why they dont buff horoscope with helios, and they said "the guide tells us to never use our gcd heals"

Do you mind if I put links to your page on my videos for job guides and such? I can't do all the technical stuff like you do, my brain just will not retain the information. No matter how many times I watch your guides, I cant remember the rotations. I literally paused your video at one point and set my buttons up in the orders and still screw it up. I've gotten to the point I'm trying to be relaxed while playing stressing rotation at one point really stressed me and I almost quit cause I just couldn't remember the "needed" rotation. Yes I get comments during dungeons but very rarely, I guess most jobs I can fudge well enough to skate by. I do have my moments of inspecting the floor more often than I'd like but there's a to of dungeons to remember. Thank you for all the content and information its super valuable. I like how you're doing stream highlights, I may start doing that too, along with the dungeon runs.

Regarding your point about Warrior being overtuned in dungeon pulls: I feel that. I'm a Dark Knight main (both because of the aesthetic and because it's part of my WoL's character arc), and it always annoys me whenever some mentor in NN goes "oh Warrior is objectively much better, especially in dungeons". Thankfully, I've found that healers don't grouse about my tank job whenever I queue into duties, at least not publicly. And things seem to go pretty smoothly most of the time - I've been able to pull off megapulls as a Dark Knight, in large part because the healer often knows how to heal me. (Maybe it's because I'm in Dynamis rather than Aether, since iirc Dynamis is a bit more laid-back as a whole, but still.)

Might just be confirmation bias, but I feel I get EXes more often when queuing as DPS, likely due to the preconception new players have of healers and tanks being more rare so they'll queue for the role themselves. It's not uncommon that of all the healers and tanks, only 1 is a mentor and the rest are sprouts.

for ramuh extreme every orb laying around is a damage up for the boss. also as I learned if you have a very competent healer, are good with your mitigations, and you are synced and not MINE you can survive solo tanking even picking up 3 too many orbs (which is the maximum debuff, its a heal debuff but at least makes you immune to the tank buster one shot as you mentioned). I learned this when I had to do the duty with a not so competent cotank. we made it through after 30 minutes after I started just picking up every excess orb because dps were not helping with orb management. I noticed in the footage the other tank also doing this.

I'm currently running the Mentor roulette grind on the NA servers. Of my 850 runs so far, for Healer 3.3% of those have been Extreme Trials, for DPS the proportion goes up to 4.8% and when running Tank 8.2% of my runs were Extremes. Most of those are in NA evenings. I landed on Ramuh Extreme once as DPS and it was clear that one or both of the tanks were new and/or struggling. When one tank dropped I dropped myself and requeued mentor as tank to see if I'd get the same group. I did! Unfortunately you need both tanks to know what's going on and we didn't clear in the end

Interesting to hear the talk about noticing that other Healers are doing things "wrong" as it really feels like that's the sort of thing that sends a lot of people off the deep end when it comes to DF groups. While you certainly approach it with an even keel and acknowledge that it's your viewpoint as someone who has a lot of knowledge and who has done most of this content many (many, many) times (and still try to be kind and help when you can), there are a lot of players who seem to lack that sense of perspective. Instead they just write off everyone else as being "terrible at the game" simply because the other players don't know the job and/or role and/or content as well as they do.. when in reality in the vast majority of the content in the game things just go perfectly fine outside of maybe making that 12 minute dungeon run into a 15 minute dungeon run.

I agree with the warrior sentiment. Warrior is on such a different league from other tanks in terms of sustain. When I play it or am playing a healer with warrior I def tend to turn off my brain quite a bit because I know that it'll probably be fine to not work so hard as long as raw intuition/bloodwhetting is used well. Coming DT I won't be surprised if it gets a nerf and I do welcome it cause I do admit it's probably a bit too strong. Though I admit I'll def miss tank easy mode just a little bit if that's the case lol.

I would like to bring up that Lapis Manalis is soloable on Warrior as well. The Crystal phase on Cagnazzo is a "little bit tight", but it is doable. Wouldn't recommend it though.

the good ol "warrior can solo anything" and "warrior is the best tank". Pretty good, but you only master warrior once you get to "warrior is actually a healer" stage. Keeping sprouts alive instead of soloing bosses is my personal hobby. I'm only missing a rescue... or maybe something a bit more fitting for a tank, something like a "shove away" ability and I'll be happy

If you go as tank or healer - you mostly get dungeons, from my experience. I get the most extremes with DPS during evenings, biggest streak was six in a row (NO I DONT NEED HELP).

As a warrior main I disagree with blodwhetting needing to get nerfed. Bias aside my go to healer is sage so I’ll talk about healing tanks at 90 from that perspective. Warrior: it’s know as the blue healer for a reason. The skill to survive without a healer is lower than any other tank. Hit bloodwhetting on cooldown and keep up a defensive and you’ll be fine. This means very little work for a healer most of the time. Paladin: really good passive healing on confiteor combo and Holy Spirit. Not to mention divine veil and holy sheltron. Generally their hp doesn’t fall too much. Again very little healing needed. Gunbreaker: aurora and heart of corundum are very powerful heals. A good gunbreaker can keep these cycled well enough where they won’t need much healing either. This is the first tank that can go either way on the amount of healing it needs. It can either need very little or a lot depending on the player. Dark knight: the tank with the least self healing. Basically just living dead. However that doesn’t mean they need a ton of healing either. The other day I had a dark knight that needed almost no healing. Their hp just didn’t drop enough to warrant any healing. TLDR it depends more on the player behind the screen than the tank they are playing. I have seen terrible warriors and amazing dark knights

as an AST main I dont mind healers keeping 100% uptime on regen on the tank during pulls as long as they are DPSing. Mostly because as astro on levelig dungeons before 80 you do kinda need to keep 100% uptime on aspected benefic if you don't want the tank to drop dead lmao

hi youtuber, you see me around often im Vivian Viscorgi, I actually do extremes with my friends every now and then but its def in the "post dinner" european times , so a while after reset. The other night I decided to test my friend who was very confident in herself and I qued Minstrels Ballad Nidhog at 10 pm and I somehow managed to vacuum 5 mentors and a sprout in a 5 minute que. So if you're sniping these , maybe try that time slot if you're available. When I was a free trial though queing for these was usually only possible within this time slot, never before reset though, absolutely a bit after because you're likely to catch mentors of whom half are willing and just insta leave.

as WHM i have to heal full health tanks to get my bloodlily and sometimes feel useless when every tank heals themself

another successful day helping out the masses good work cae. also as a slightly defensive white mage myself who will cast renew on pull and refresh it on trash once the tank stops before holy spam i prefer finding out what kind of tank im getting before i potentially reduce any healing output espeially on the likes of dark knights or tanks that sit on their cd's.

The difference between warrior and the other tanks in dungeons feels way to high. Gnb has been my primary tank since introduction. I started playing warrior more in the last few months and there is a difference in what i can get away with that i would not feel comfortable doing as a GNB. I had a healer dc during the second boss of Troia. The dps said they were trying to log back in. But we went ahead and did the normal trash packs with out them. no issues what so ever, never came close to death. The healer got back in to the game right as we got to the last boss. Even when healing dungeons, if the tank is a warrior then i am just an Art of war bot. While if i have a drk (which is honestly rarely these days ) I have to remember how to manage their HP.

On the topic of warriors- as a healer I don't like them because I like feeling like I. Have a role to play lol. The other tanks will do that but a warrior feels like a cop out of my job.

The only mentor roulette I ever ran was Leviathan extreme with a group of other mentors. I'd never run it unsynched. I never did another mentor roulette either lol

lol, just noticed you are doing mentors too. Only just started watching your mythbusting and mistake video's. A topic for the mythbusting, though I don't know how you could test it with you mostly likely being max lvl in everything. But the thing I'm trying to wrap my head around. Do you get more xp doing content at your lvl, or unsynced. The classic of getting into a lvl 16 dungeon when your like 50. Sure they give you bonus xp to make up for it, but is it enough? Like is queing for dungeons at your lvl, to grab folks from the roulette better then queing into the roulette yourself when your role is not wanted. I feel like it is but I need to clean a chatbox feed to see it later.

I actually get a little bummed when I have a warrior tank in 4 mans because it basically just means I’m sub-par dps with three buttons to press. This badly needs to be nerfed in Dawntrail IMO. I like most players am in these doing dailies more than I’m in hard content.

I in fact did know that War could solo Dead Ends... did it myself, carried on every single boss in one run with all new/bad/returning players lol

i usually do my mentor roulette on dps and i get tons of ex trials. i play after 6 my time (germany) on weekdays and on weekends usually after lunch. when i play healer, i usually get dungeons and not as many ex trials. there's been a surge of free trial players queueing for ex content lately, too, so that's probably why i see so much of it. a lot of these sprouts are tanks or healers recently 🤔

Well, Cae, you now openly said, what you told me some time ago when I told you my opinion on Warrior: that Bloodwhetting makes it way too good compared to others and that it should be dialed back a little. Paladin's self sustain is pretty good right now, but it is not too much. Gunbreaker's Aurora cannot sustain the tank all by itself, but it is still better than Dark Knight, that only has Souleater and Abyssal Drain, which is only used once per minute and only on mobpacks.

I don't do mentor roulette, but l tried to pop nidhogg extreme, and it never succeeded.

I find this silly that two people I'm following videos for are working Mentor Roulette stuff now -- Cider Spider (the youtuber behind "Mad Because Small") released in the last day or two a vid about doing some for his "get all achievements" set of vids, having done his first 10 mentor roulettes.

that conversation with advice for the healer during hells lid is exactly what i do when i go into a new duty as healer (which i main). i tend to overheal a bit and save my aetherflow stacks JUST in case...which people tell me not to do and i get why. however, ive never been here before, i dont do that sort of thing in dungeons i know, i dont know whats coming up in this dungeon. we can take the slight DPS loss instead of wiping which would take us longer overall to get through. as i get comfortable doing a new dungeon i will get better at healing when not needed and spending my aetherflow more often, but right now as a first timer? or even 5th timer? let me learn the dungeon first. just did The Aery for the first time the other day, the tank asked me pull size since i was watching the cutscene, i said everything. i know i 100% overhealed, but i dont know how hard the enemies will hit. dungeon went great with no wipes and i got 2 comms. the more i do the dungeon the more i know what i can get away with and cant.

I think your “nitpicking” if we want to call it that Cae, is just born out of you being naturally familiar with the jobs and what they should be doing to maximize DPS and adjusting based on the situations. And I think it’s a healthy thing to talk about if you’re still getting the hang of something and you want to improve at it. I love playing Sage but I’m far from a Healer main so at times I get a bit more defensive than I should.
