I noticed I've started picking up random habits while living in Singapore. I wouldn't call them Singaporean specific habits, but they are ones I've developed while living here.
Let me know in the comments below if you also have these habits or there are habits that you've developed in Singapore!

Hi Emily, one segment that you could do is provide an insight into income tax. How the Singapore governance to receive taxes from working people. As equally important, how one can pay their taxes at the end of year if they had under pay during the year. I heard it is all done electronically, and for the most part, an honour system. It would interesting to know more about this as I know one of the upsides in working in Singapore is the income tax favourable.

Hi Jason (from Jason :) )! if you draw a salary, most companies actually electronically submit your income to the tax authorities. it is then up to you to report additional income from any side gigs that you may have. there is a once a year tax filing exercise where you declare all these additional taxes as well as claim tax reliefs (e.g. supporting parents, kids etc). based on your final declared amount, you'll be assessed and advised of your payable income tax. you can chose to pay this in one lump sum or, if you have Singapore bank account, you can arrange for a monthly payment plan to pay it over 10 (or was it 12) months, automatically deducted on a preset date each month from that account. if the amount of tax calculated was over what you were told to pay, you get it back as a rebate in the following year's tax. if it was under, you either pay it up in a one lump sum or, if you are on the installment arrangement, the government will adjust the subsequent installments to cater for the shortfall. and yes, generally everything, from submission to payments to notices are done electronically. as an individual, it is possible to start and finish your income tax submission online in less than 15 minutes. income taxes are very low compared to many other 1st world countries. the other main form of tax most ppl pay for is the Goods & Services Tax, similar to VAT, which is more a consumption-based tax i.e. you pay more tax the more you spend. This is currently pegged at 7%. hope these help

You gotta make sure your sun umbrella has UV protection and that usually means there's a label saying that as well as it's black on the inside of the umbrella, and as for recycling the containers, we sometimes do that too but not if the food is too oily or greasy. Hey, Americans usually wear their shoes indoors, don't they? I know some who do that and were shocked when folks here tell them not to do that.

This makes me curious about the electricity rate in Singapore, as a reference I checked our PG&E Bill in the Bay Area and we’re at $0.25 and $0.32 per kWh based on usage. Really cool that the outlets there has individual switches. But yes, you’re right, most devices draws a minimal negligible current when they’re off or in standby mode referred to as quiescent current.

I can relate to that electricity switch habit. So much so that it gives me OCD when there is a single switch on when going to sleep 😂 You also don't have to worry about blending life and Singapore content since your life content will naturally be done in the context of Singapore.
