Would love to see this same test in colder temps. Thank you both for doing this real life comparison. Btw, if you didn't have troubles with the charger the race would be much closer and you might've even won.

If you use the car navigation instead of CarPlay, the car will estimate range based on actual road speed and elevation profile ahead. Without, it rather estimates based on your past. Thus on the charging stop in Elverum (arriving with high consumption, but continuing with much slower roads), the range prediction would likely have shown you that you would arrive in Klett with sufficient margin if you added that as a destination also in the car.

This race was even better than expected. Very different cars, but they both are obviously good for traveling longer distances too.

Really enjoyable video. All this seems way too stressful though. I'm nowhere near ready to give up my 320D. 750+ miles of range and the car is 100% paid for. I can't charge an EV at home and there no fast charging stations in my general area so EV doesn't make any sense for me.

You overcharged with 10%. And to early. After 85% the change speed drops. And remember, bij avery pitstop ABC Always Be Charging. Ask the Bjorn's lessons in charging calculation. :-) please more of this video's.

@Floris van Noorden Problem on this route going north, is that the last HPC comes too early and includes a 3+3 min detour. (New IONITY site at Alvdal is under construction..) Have you tested Abetterrouteplanner, @Kris? The Pro version takes live traffic and weather into account. Here’s an alternative strategy you could have used, charging at the other HPC Grønn Kontakt not far from Ionity, and driving on the “wrong” side of the river since you’re already there. 🙂 Narrower road, but fairly straight and probably less traffic this day. abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=2fff5bb2-2be8-445d-a7f7-c195a34542c3

Could you have charge 2 times to 80% on 150 kw chargers?

There are no other 150 kW chargers on that route.

@@okkeharr IONITY Alvdal will be finished any week now. It was delayed due to some flood proofing that had to be approved by the authorities.. ionity.evapi.de/#/location/354 It’s 295 kms from the starting point in Oslo and right by the road. 👍 Better to go directly there. Might be stretch in really cold weather, or wet and head wind. One could always take a 5-6 minutes pit stop plus 3 min overhead at eg. Circle K Minnesund. Or even at Bolleland, Espa. On the way back, soon, I would use Alvdal and charge to 80-85% and continue to eg. IONITY Dal or Circle K Minnesund (231 kms). Skip Elverum if in a hurry, because of the detour. Safe though, with a total 10 HPC’s.. Alternative, if not in a hurry, take the scenic route via Dombås.

This is not a range challenge. This is a 500 km race. With a range test you test the range of a car. A range test answers these questions: How far can I go on a full charge? Whats the range of this car?
