A tip I’ve learned about the drying stage of hydrophobic paint is to rinse it with flowing water first. This removes seemingly 90% of water from the car and makes drying a lot easier.

Excellent job as always! Do you have a favorite interior dressing for leather seats? I bought a used 2012 CLS and cleaned the interior really well with some P&S Interior Cleaner, and the leather is looking nice and clean but a bit dry and in need of some love. I was thinking of trying some Nextzett Leather Care 'Lederpflege' as I do not want a shiny finish, but was wondering if you have a favorite product that you use for this purpose.

Thank you very much 👍🏼 Not a dressing as such, more of a protector. I use Dr Leather leather shield which is good on modern leather, as modern leather typically only requires regular cleaning compared to old leather which requires conditioning as well. Dr leather dye block or Colour lock leather shield and both great products and will last you a very long time 👍🏼

Great video...one question, after the tar you snow foamed again and the beading/protection seemed to be more effective from a certain point up the cars body. Was this due to the tar?
@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Sorry I should have been clear in the video. This car doesn’t have any protection on so I used a product called Koch Chemie Protector Wax. 30ml and diluted with 970ml water through a foam lance. It adds a subtle hydrophobic effect, which helps when it comes to drying. Saying that, a tar remover could help reset a coating if the hydrophobic properties have started to diminish. I would only ever use it if there were tar spots present as some tar removers can be too aggressive 👍🏼 Furthermore, some tar removes leave behind a solvent which appear to be hydrophobic, but once thoroughly rinsed are quickly disappear.

Do you come across wheels where the iron remover rinse & BH foam doesn’t cut it? If so, what’s your process?
@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, Yes I have come across a few. You can always repeat the Korrosol/iron fallout process until the wheels are clean. I have had it in some cases where I have had to use KKD Wheel Acid diluted at 1:4, but wouldn’t want to do this every time as over the years could possibly start to tarnish the finish.

Any scrubbing brushes you recommend for the interior leather? Worried incase I pick one too rough for my white Merino leather, it’s starting to look very soiled and grimey even after wipe downs with microfibres!
@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
For interior leather I would have a look at a Gyeon or colour lock fabric brush. Failing that, a standard soft shoe polishing brush would do the trick. The brushes will help get into the pores of the leather. Thereafter, a microfibre wipe down every week should suffice 👍🏼

@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what detail you would be interested in. If it’s a 1 day detail then I wouldn’t be able to travel to London as the travelling would more or less take up the day. Typically I would travel 15 miles, thereafter every hour would be £25 including the travel back. 10 Downing Street might be a little too far for me to travel for a 1 day detail 😉 I’m also wary of travelling too far as I wouldn’t want to break any travel rules during the pandemic.

The car has been thoroughly pre-rinsed beforehand, so no need to worry. I haven’t shown every step as it was quite quickly getting dark, but have a look at some of my other videos. I’ll apply a citrus degreaser or equivalent, rinse, foam, brush then rinse, so as the areas have been rinsed beforehand there is little chance of marring the finish. I’m guessing you have seen or heard this from ‘UBV Guide’.

@bobi.3603 3 жыл бұрын
Marks left on wheels after “cleaning”, nothing used on leather after cleaning (cream or any sort of protection), brushing the steering wheel was donne only on the face of the wheel and by hand, after you brushed the floor carpet you throw the brush on the leather.......want more?
@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
Where were the marks on the wheels? New leather doesn’t need cream as it isn’t 100% leather and has more of a plastic coating, unlike older cars which need cream to keep then supple and conditioned. Also, this was a basic wash so no protection was requested. As mentioned in the video, the whole interior wasn’t filmed as it was getting dark, so I just wanted to show a 50/50 comparison. I have a specific brush for carpets and leather so would never use the same. Also, the leather was cleaned after the carpet so wouldn’t matter if the soft plastic brush was on the leather. Also, I have a box full of microfibre towels, so again the same towel wouldn’t be used on fabric and leather. If you didn’t feel that I did a sufficient to job on the wheels then why watch the rest...to criticise?
@bobi.3603
@bobi.3603 3 жыл бұрын
Next time put propper video then, it is your work and you should be proud of it. Don’t get offended and accept different opinions. P.S.- Any leather, new or old should be protected, the chemicals in the cleaning substances afects it!
@HarpersCarDetailing
@HarpersCarDetailing 3 жыл бұрын
I am happy with the video and I’m very proud of my work. I can’t help if it starts to get dark when filming, as I work around my clients. I accept constructive criticism, but not when it’s rude, which hopefully you will understand. Take a look at the below article on leather cleaning and protection from the specialists at Dr Leather. Colour-Lock are also a leading specialist in leather and have a similar article. Leather cleaners are not aggressive, they are only needed to gently cleanse the surface of the leather. www.drleather.com/leather-cleaner As mentioned modern leather has an artificial lubricant, coatings used are now multi-strata highly crosslinked polyurethane and acrylic blends that provide extremely high performance levels of abrasion resistance, flexibility, cold crack resistance, etc., giving much more durable leather. Consequently, only a gentle clean is needed. A leather sealant is great as it reduces soiling and dye transfer from trousers and helps with general maintenance cleaning but in no way feeds/conditions the leather, or 100% needed.
