G'Day Guys, This is a short clip of the Ranger Raptor and Mazda BT-50 travelling through some tuff terrain to a swimming hole during our last over-landing trip to Lorella Springs station in the remote Gulf country of Northern Australia.

When I read the comments here I often wonder how many of the people here ever sat in a 4x4 under real offroad conditions. Before you break something on your car (axle,...) because of hitting the gas too hard its totally worth to take 10 minutes longer for a difficult passage.Better safe than sorry.

Momentum and smooth throttle control are they key. It's easy to be an armchair critic, but it is quite easy to see in this vid. Great example at the 4 min marker. They went a bit quicker and cleared the first part of the hill with ease, having been stopped previously when going slower. But then as soon as they needed to maintain the momentum they lifted off the throttle getting stopped again. They would have been better off rolling all the way back and trying again. Off road driving is a skill you never stop learning at. The driver of the Mazda should watch this vid so that they can adapt their driving next time round.

I will explain the thing. I saw this video a while ago. There is a trick here. Reading the comments it seems that people alway forget the main thing in 4x4 (or maybe no clue?). ((It is the fat 2.5” Fox shocks!)) The suspension is completely different. That’s why these racing shocks are very expensive. They are 2.5” - the compression and rebound are way better than these stock or 2.0” shocks.
@qswedasf

@@RoundTheFire That is exactly why your style of videos make a difference. And a pleasure to watch. If I search in youtube for the Raptor I get mainly "review" videos, shot in Morocco, and meant for the European market. And as it is a sponsored trip for many journalists, they all kind of promote the same story. You were the first who dared to post "5 things I don't like about my Raptor". I hope I can soon share some posts as well. And hope to make it a leisure/work truck. Not an overlander (with all due respect to this group!). Sadly parts here are a lot harder to get by, or just ridiculously expensive. And other ideas just simply haven't been done yet. So it would be fun for me to share my ideas in the future. Also a big thumbs up for you. Taking your time to reply to so many followers. And I hope that soon you will just run out of time, due to the raising amount of followers.

Ford raptor has terrain management system making it easy for the engine to distribute enough power required among the tires. I believe bt 50 doesn't have these feature. Though for power, i still prefer the 3.2L set up of the previous ranger. So all in all, i believe the tech on the raptor did the most part of the job there.

The engine does not distribute power. It is the gear box and traction control. I had this system (TMS) on a 2005 ranger rover. You can do the terrain modes manually i.e. sand mode (4x4, hi, traction control off, increase throttle response [if you have a throttle controller or just use a heavier foot]. Rock crawling (4x4, low, diff lock [reduce throttle response or use lighter foot])... etc.

No tiene nada de malo comparar gamas distintas si el resto de la prueba se realiza de manera correcta.

Also this BT-50 Is the XT variant which don't always have factor rear diff lock. Rear diff lock can really make a difference.

@@mattdobson9525 no stress mate, its easy at first glance for it to look like a camper, there is a OzTent strapped on 1 side, a gazebo strapped on the other and then the ramps to unload the quad are strapped on top squaring up the whole trailer.

Its different calibrations in the traction control systems, as well as tyre pressures etc. Ford only sells the platform to mazda and they do their own calibrations. Ford has done a lot more r and d in this. You can see bt50 is not braking the wheel properly or early enough when it breaks traction.

Both these trucks in the video have identical tyres. BFG 285/70 R17 All terrain tyres. The BT50 has a bigger 5 cylinder, 3.2L engine. The Ranger Raptor has a 4 cylinder, 2.0L engine.
