the fact that Shen was still getting bullied despite being 7/0/4 against a 1/6 teemo says it all, any other toplaner could walk straight up in your face with only 2 kills, imagine if he was the one behind...

I miss the titanic hydra active. Back then it was so much better as a first item. You had wave clear, you had dueling.

I love shen and enjoyed every minute of playing him in the past. Not anymore. You summed up all of the problems perfectly, 10/10. My biggest frustration is helping team with ultimate but getting punished for it almost all the time.

The thing I've always missed about OG Shen was his heal. It made him into a fun attrition style tank in-lane while still having his close ult and taunt. Sure, he didn't smack people down in lane but he could lane into pretty much anyone. They took that away could they were like "Uninteractive healing blah blah" then fuckin' drop Aatrox and Kayn into the game some seasons later. You're not coping. I'm not a one-trick and Shen feels weird as shit to play. He's a "tank" that's basically kitted out to be an AP Bruiser...except not quite enough to actually build AP bruiser. The only "tank" thing he gets is his passive shield. Gwen gets more tank stats than Shen.

I think maybe what he meant for the delayed shield is not delay the teleport, but the shield only. like the indicator of the "coming healing" we already have. that way enemies can have a window of time to either try to burst the enemy down, or disengage and conserve cooldowns u ntil Shen arrives. overall It would definitely ruin "last second ultimates" that often make some big times. it would be a huge nerf on Shen's MID fight ultimate, which is a huge thing IMO LATE GAME since spliting is not longer ideal anyway, so a dealy in the shield mid team fight would be really nerfing Shen's team fight unless he gets a lot back on some other things. unless they removed the delay by lvl 16.

They should make the Q onhit bonus damage apply to every ability. Like, if you hit a champ with Q, you get a stack, if you block an auto with W, you get a stack, if you taunt a champ you get a stack, and perhaps when you ult an ally you get a couple stacks, and then each autoattack consumes 1 stack to deal the empowered magic damage. That would reward you for hitting your stuff (and for using W at the right times to block autos), and then it also makes shen way better into other tanks, since you can do more damage in extended fights.

From the beginning it like riot didnt really care for this champ. Look at his rework, this champ still has the same animations Taunts, Laugh, etc as his old model. The basically changed his model, his Q and W, Thats it. Every other champ in a VGU full service. Now they nerfed him to being a support. They do not care for this champ.

Shen just can’t sustain in lane at all, they need to make a mini rework on this champ otherwise he’s just unplayable in current and future meta if nothing changes

I main shen myself, and I'd prefer to see just about whatever nerf riot demands to increase the empowered Q damage. I don't need to increase waveclear if I can actually fight my lane opponent and its real tiring to see enemies not even try to dodge my Q dragthrough because their sheen proc outperforms 3 empowered auto's. Make landing his abilities a threat and most of his problems go away. Let him give up plates for ulting its a price to pay for mapwide threat, but if he doesn't ult, champs shouldn't still be able to act like he's not even in lane

Shens old Q was a targeted ranged attack that would heal anyone who attacks that target, allowing him to sustain and have a more direct damage tool. I've always wondered what might happen if Riot were to maybe combine his W and new Q and then give Shen his old Q back. Fixes some of the sustain issues in lane, if only from Shens POV.

It's funny you mentioned that the game feels more about items than the champions. SRO actually had a Short where I believe he was commenting on the Mythic removal and said that he believes League has become more about the items you build verse the champion you play and cited the fact that his channel alone is basically proof of that as he started off originally educating people about top lane match-ups and gradually had to shift into itemization (and troll itemization) to speak to the League audience.

As a shen otp, 2.5 mil, i realised my champ is dead the day i lost lvl 1 to nasus. Trust me, it was on the river before minions spawn but he had lethal tempo (still not a reason to lose to a nasus lvl 1, even if they buffed nasus's passiv)

As a toplaner with a relatively large pool of champions, I only play Shen when I'm not really tryharding. The only way to play him optimally is as a sub-optimal Taric. They killed the champ.

I agree that shen should be changed(like being aggresive and fix bug) but boycott will eventually increase shen's win rate. Also many shen players in korea china japan server dont know who petu is.....

I was a shen maim for awhile and struggled I'm lane, I switched to playing panth and it's basically the same playstlye but so much more fun. I went from gold to Plat too so that was nice

I think a nice change would be once shen’s W ends every ally in the area gets his passive shield, it’s conditional and could reward pulling your W back with your Q as it ends etc

my main gripe with shen has always been in the laning phase because it always felt like a double edged sword to use your ult inlane because most of the time even if you help your mid/adc survive, youll just give your lane opponent time to farm, take tower platings or just catch up in xp, plus the itemization never felt as straightforward as it did with other champs. it just feels weird to build full tank and having sunfire as your only waveclear, similarly building tiamat almost feels like a waste of gold when you cant match your opponent in dmg or sustain so you just basically gave 1.2k gold to have less shitty waveclear.

shen was my first main years ago, and over the years he’s been changed from what he used to be and gets punished more and more for using his ultimate for how it’s intended to be used. mythics screw his itemizations, turret plating allow for any champ to catch back up to you, and there’s too much self healing in top lane now. it’s not fun to play shen anymore. he’s only gotten worse as the game gets older.

i think shens q could get a stattic shiv like passive effect,so when you q you can deal damage to 3-5 minnions or enemies in lane (reduced obv) so it can apply some wave clear and wave managment options to his kit

Idea for Shen W since its the one thing in his kit that doesnt really do much or have that much impact so how about Shen W gives allies an insta shield but not Shen himself due to him receiving his passive shield when W expires with the animation being like his Psyops splashart making a big spherical barrier blocking some abilities and autos around his sword on press, scaling with hp 15/30/60/90/120 + 8% bonus hp. Or to introduce wave clear to shen while also increasing the skill ceiling with placement of his spirit Sword, put an AD ratio on Q when passes thru an enemy,minions and jungle monsters does instant physical damage scaling 5/15/30/60/120 plus 75% AD I think this will introduce Shen to more opportunities in the Jungle and Lane while the W change makes Support shen more viable, what do you think?

The point of the delayed ult is to lower the power of his ult so they can add power to his normal kit. It’s supposed to be less effective and harder to make plays with. If all they did was buff his base kit he’d be overpowered like he was when he got nerfed. Shen isn’t weak, he just feels bad to play similar to champions like kayle

Ive always loved playing Shen, one of my fav champions and the first one I picked to play and lear toplane. I really think that he needs some changes, I know Im not as good as some Shen players out there, but I always struggle against tanks, I feel like I do no dmg against them at any point in the game, brawlers is same thing but for late game. I think they should add some kind of passive to his R, something that would help him with some wave clear since he lacks it until you get 1200 or 1000 for either tiamat or bami. I also think that W is... well, another ability, if you use it right you can clutch and save someone with it, but te existence of champs like Jax, Belveth, Nilah, champs that mitigates or dodges aa and other sources of dmg, and Shen's W sitting at 12-13s cd for what does.......... Yeah. I firmly belive he needs some help, he fell really hard since nerfs and changes in the game, the Durability Patch destroyed the game for so many champs, they are going to revert the items, so we'll see how stuff goes but I still belive that he needs some help, some adjustments. Disagree with most points xpetu made, but i'll leave a like and a comment to help your channel grow. I onetricked shen for a few seasons in 2019-2020 (and it was the only time i was able to hit dia) and i think that shen basically being a toplane support champion is fine. Hullbreaker isn't supposed to exist, it's a problematic item, getting rid of it -> shen is better without changing anything else. I agree, however, that shen needs some type of aoe clear, rn killing minions with this champion feels awkward.

just had a idea. Whats your take on this: Giving Shen R a back-teleport. So Shen R's to help his team, the normal R. then after say 10seconds you can recast Shen R to go back to the spot you teleported from. Maybe you can teleport back to where your sword was. So you cant Q if you want to TP back. Either or.

im ok with E taunt being nerfed to scale with skillpoints, but buff the Q.. tome some AOE dmg or some CC or W buffing your defenses.. its sad shen is pretty useless in nearly everyrole nowadays specially when you see Garen and Malph that strong for so many patches

Lets take a look at other tanks with similar roles as shen. Well Ornn has a combo that can oneshot low hp targets, has better max health dmg, better late game without sacrificing anything in lane. Lets look at Sion, he is also an infinit scaling champ, with basically unlimited waveclear, a near global ult, better dmg, and cc potential.

I really never underestoon that narative of "shen is now more supportive " . But they always intended him to be . No shen didnt have strugles into healing champions. Does nobody remember s9 when they buffed bork and shen was top1 toplaner? In fact him being insane lane bully AND insane support lategame was so oppresive knowing ur getting outscaled , especially now when the game is botlane dependent. Xpetu s point about items and mythics is irrelevant because they are removing those so sunfire will become shen s best 1st or 2nd item again. Tytanic is still basically mythic interms of how strong the stats are. Shen will drastically change in preseason just based on item changes alone , and especially that all runes EXCEPT resolve are getting nerfed.

I have 100% win rate with shen support,gold/plat,what I realised is that you are better as support because when you use ult you adc can handle and save platings,on top it's just not playable aginst people who knows how to counter him. My idea is that shen w gives more tenacity for everyone who stands there,so you can stop some hard cc and reduce it time.

You cant make shen push out lanes vs other enemies, as his ULT is basicly almost auto win a 2nd lane in high skill gameplay. If you have shen (who cant use ult on him self) win lanes vs champs who have ults for "them self" then this champ will be auto win 2 lanes and win game by default pick. It is a matter if he can survive a lane or not, but you cant say "he needs to push lanes and ult other lanes to influence them also) as its horrible balance.

Well i used to play shen and it wasn't fun for me to play to survive, it's just not fun trying to survive knowing that most of the time u don't win the 1v1. And they need to change his scaling so we can play Stridebreaker or that kind of items on him i think.

I main Sett.... and we got nerfed cuz of jaksho worlds last year.... we're negative on MR still And for some reason any chance hes had at direct buffs have been shot down immediately. Maybe its because in a fight, Shen and Sett are good at forcing the adcs to back up. And riots balance team has had nonstop bias for them for like 3 years. Look how fast stuff got nerfed/gutted in S11. But ADCs get to be strong as fuck from like 1/3'rd end of season s11 to now. ADC/JG are THE snowball solo carry roles right now. Unless you play S+ tier blind pickable champs, which Sett and Shen ARE NOT AT ALL. (We play our champs cuz we love them unlike most) I think Shen is better, simply because he CAN R his adc. And he has a dash. While Sett is just stuck hard losing to almost every top champ on equal skill. (Because kit diff) But both of them itemize enough HP that all the %max/current abusers which are constantly high A or S tier just can brain off AA them to death. However, for 2 "early game fighters" in design, riot really decided to fuck them over so much that their fighting sucks ass unless you get a free kill on invade or cheese them with runes. Don't believe me? The only time hes pretty much ever picked in high elo korea/china, its as a COUNTERPICK. Which massively inflates the stats. So without this understanding you would be wrongly informed if you only looked at numbers. XCM on chinese super server played more renekton/morde/aatrox than sett. But for some reason Sett isnt allowed a non-conditional movespeed boost on Q. AND HIS R RELEASES PEOPLE .25 SECONDS BEFORE HE GETS TO ACT. MEANING YOU CAN LITERALLY FLASH OUT OF SETT R DMG. OR JUST KILL HIM WITH ATK SPEED BEFORE HE CAN W.

I think Shen suffers two-fold by riot. On one hand, he is a toplaner. Toplane is in a bad state. They try to make it better, but it's very WIP. On the other hand, he is a tank.. and Tanks have been horribly mishandled for quite a while now. The thing is, that's an issue that is present, but not urgently in need of a fix, as tanks have such a valuable baseline output. Aside from that, actual Tanks toplane are so rare. Most of them - Naut, Zac, Sej, (tank)hecarim, Maokai etc - got nerfed out of toplane, cause of their undesirable play patterns up there. I'm honestly surprised that Malphite is still allowed up there. The tanks left that currently come to mind - Shen, Ornn and Sion(Though, he arguably more of a Juggernaut than a Tank) - all have pretty significant damage outputs. The difference between these 3 is that Shen scales the worst of them: Sion optimally builds Titanic with, along with W passive, scales his damage up very well. Ornns %damage scales well by nature and he has more armor/MR/Health scalings than Shen. Shen has little scaling compared to these two. And well, this is beside the ability scaling being worse on Shen, comparably. And then you have Shen R. Abilities like that are always a bit.. "balance warping". At level 6, Shen gains exactly zero fighting power via level up. He also gets one of the most valuable utilities in the game, especially so in proplay. That's a balance nightmare. This thing really makes it hard to buff, for example, Shen's scaling. He is also a tank with rather little CC(comparatively) and there is no R to scale to help his toplane centric output. And right now, I think riot just doesn't want to touch his tenuous state of "balance" - they'd probably fuck up anyway. And well, what is called here for really is a bit of a rework, which is naturally more work. I really hope he and other tanks get more attention in the future.

Well I wish Shen W was an auto attack reset, it would be so nice imo.

Shen is a supp/tank for theme now and they are not gonna put more damage on him ever again bc of his global ult, sad :( i am a supp main and for me now he is a pure supp, no sense to play him top if you can't 1v1 or hard split push, better to get pure tank, fast split pusher or a pure duel champ He also has to work super hard to cs and this is another point to play him main supp, there you do not need to cs and you can actually slow split push bc you have the top on the other side of the map that's doing a fast one and you can ult or to him on to the rest of the team, the amount of pressure you can put when you don't play him top it's even greater that the one you can put out top, you can finally feed your adc bc you are actually in the bot but at the same time you can help your top His w also gets more value bot, same for the taunt, you can finally get two targets at the same time, you can also do a surprise R on the adc in a gank without losing nothing top bc you are bot, really, i don't see any reason to play him top or mid

Game for a long time hasn't been about champs i feel. It's like how well can your champ use sunderer or gore, that makes them viable, as an example.

Shen needs a complete rework... again. How can they rework Ryze 7ish times but can't admit they messed up with Shen's kit? His w is too short, yet Nilah, Gwen, and Samari all block more things then he does. However, he has to use two abilities for it to have half the impact their one ability does.

I am rank 1 shen in my server and I agree only about giving shen more damage on his empowered q, I never felt like the mythic items are bad on shen, but one big thing I have to say is that I have only played shen in top, nothing mid or sup so I'm sure is gonna be super different and I'm not joining the boycott, I like playing shen xD

I don't think you can have a champ with shen ult+ being a good laner with out some other sever down side. That's why whenever shen was playable he was 100% pick ban in pro. He is also kind of a toxic component to ad hyper carry meta He is one of those binary Champs that seems hard to balance. If he is good he can do too much on the map, if he is bad it isn't worth it

Shen is not a lane bully, and should never be one. You don't get to teleport to a lane that actually matters, teleport right back, and get to win against the glue sniffer to stupid to play a tank.

i think it is simply the new q and passive vs the old one. The old was a lot more fun to play. You can revert them and still have shield passive and w work. None of this dragging sword boring bs
