I love LM3, but I agree, I wish they would make the games scarier like LM1. Making it really dark and having to "unlock" the lighting was a really great part of LM1. It gave the feeling like you were slowly gaining control over this frightening place the further you progressed. Also really liked the maze-like layout of the place.

The existential terror of the original will always shoot it right up to the top for me. The way you see the ghosts just doing normal things, living their lives normally as if they didn't even realize that they were dead, disturbs me in just the right ways. Seeing the mother sitting in front of the mirror, grooming herself, seeing the father sitting in his chair reading a book and occasionally yawning, seeing the butler patrol the halls all with this haunting music in the background, all of it just adds into the uncomfortable realism of the game and it's something that you just don't see any more.

I absolutely love dark moon. The designs are amazing, I don't mind the controls but that might be because I never played the first one and with this I actually don't really like the controls of 3. The more light theme is nice for me I hate stuff where you can't see anything.

In my opinion, dark moon is the best and is one of my favourite games of all time. Even though ghost design are generic, I still like that they are goofy. My favourite is the one in the library with the piano. Even though some people don’t like the design of ghost in dark moon. I think most people can agree that king boo has gotten better. He also wanted to paint the town red with blood in dark moon. That is very scary

I played these in order 2, 3 then finally 1. All games are amazing. 2 is my intro to the series so that’s holds a special place, and 3 is just genius on so many levels… but I must agree, I am LOVING the creepy horror element in the first one. It’s so interesting experiencing the first one last and seeing how dark and creepy it was - thanks for the vid!

All three of the main ones are amazing games. The concept of putting Luigi, a coward, into a super eerie and haunted mansion just fits so well, and makes these games so fun. And as always, amazing video! And I can’t forget to mention the fact that you deserve at least 1 million subs

Despite me playing dark moon first, I strongly prefer playing the original GameCube game because of it’s unique charm & spookiness that can’t be replicated in the sequels

I grew up with the original Luigi's Mansion and it will always have a special spot in my heart, but I think I enjoy 3 just a little bit more. Playing co-op throughout the whole story mode is a blast and leads to so many dumb shenanigans. Awesome Halloween videos by the way!! I'm excited to hear what you think of the new Superstars game

I think 3 dropped the ball a bit when it comes to the atmosphere. It’s not spooky at all. Also not a fan of the crazy themes, I think there’s a lot you could do with a haunted hotel. But they ditched it and went with desert, jungle, pirate ship. I also got sick of clearing out rooms with the poltergust. The first is still the best imo

This is my exact ranking of theing series. Dark moon felt too slow and 3 felt too easy. 1 is kinda a balance between those two as it has the challenge of capturing the ghosts by wrangling them into your vacuum while also having your environment, (even having to backtrack for (legitimate) reasons).

I love this channel for real. It's so high quality and hilarious but also super interesting at the same time! Will we have another Infinite Bits Halloween Extravaganza or something similar next year?

Love the genuine insight and views on this. I've never played this game, but knew it was good, and was going to fawk out $9000 on the new luigi arcade cabinet. But after watching this I noticed that too many generic ghosts were one thing that you disliked about the third game - and that's something the arcade has in droves! Here I see that very few game creators have the insight required to deliver a great game - infact it was only the first game in the series that is truly great. And the others kind of dilute the game with genericism - the second game forgot about atmosphere,and the arcade just forgets about everything new that the original implemented, and can't resist the impulse to make the arcade just like every other arcade rails shooter - lots of little ghosts. I thought for this one they could use a single big one that just needed lots of sucking to suck it in. The biggest missed opportunity that your video highlighted was not using a torch. What if - in two player mode, what if one of the vacuums could be used as a torch whilst your friend worked on the sucking. That would have been so cool Anyway, thanks for your video - I'll save some money!

Oh the first one is my favorite one, so interesting how all the portrait ghosts have little stories, I love the whole idea of unlocking light, hidden gems, golden mice which can be activated via game horror, and speedy spirts, I loved the soundtrack, I loved astral hall with the soundtracks in that room, overall og takes my heart

I started with dark moon and then I went to 3, so I don't have nostalgia for it or anything and being so familiar with the mechanics of the others, I gotta say 3 is the best in the series, also since there's only 3 games I think you should've added the remake to the list, especially since that's more available to most modern players

I personally like Luigis Mansion 3 the best of the three. Also I never finished Dark Moon. Idk why but it just didn’t click with the me the way the first game did. The first game was awesome and I was pretty addicted to it when I was younger.

Has anyone else noticed that in each Luigi's Mansion game (in order), Luigi appears to be less scared in each entry, which makes sense in Dark Moon and especially 3, considering that at those points in the timeline, Luigi has done this before. In a 4th or 5th entry, he could be quite confident, maybe even fearless. Unless Luigi encounters a new threat that frightens him to the bone, just like his reactions in Mansion 1. But after all Luigi has gone through, what could possibly be lurking round the corner to scare him that much at this stage? I wonder. . .

The first game is superior because of its atmosphere. It’s unsettling and that’s what makes it great. The creepy factor is something the other games severely lack as well as how dark it should be. The prequels have the flashlight for show unlike the original where you actually needed it. Love this video

Luigis Mansion is the best Horrorgame. Luigis Mansion 2 is the most creative and chill Game. Luigis Mansion 3 is the most complicated and visually best Game.

Love the series so this is some A-grade Halloween watching. You know when Dark Moon is at the bottom that this is a consistent series, but I also like the long gaps between games. LM4 for 2025 please!

i really liked this video. i feel you 100% could have said more about dark moon and 3, like the soundtrack for the two and how they fit the overall aesthetic.The video being brief is also really good, you say so much in so little time, I just feel small details could have been discussed overall. But looking at it from a different perspective, a viewer can go into these games and not be spoiled on excellent puzzles and bosses. I hope things get more advanced overall with your reviews as to an extent these lack character, or that special quality that makes you unique, but I really liked this video!

One of the most underrated channels

People say the beta version of the first game was darker mainly because of the fake facts like the “game over screen”, the safari hunter, and the 24 hour clock. It’s almost the same as the final game but with a slightly darker atmosphere and the ghosts are more serious.

Great video! You have the same ranking as me! I love the Luigi’s Mansion series all three are in my top 20 favorite games and I think you hit the nail on the head for each entry’s pros and cons. As much as I love DM and 3, it does make me sad that we’ll likely never get a new LM game in the style of the first (especially since Next Level is now officially owned by Nintendo). I’m sure there will be great games to come, but all the little things that the original had: the dark rooms, the humming and whistling of Luigi, the excessive dust, the creepy and expressive ghosts, will likely never return. Luigi’s Mansion is and will probably always be my favorite game of all time and is a special part of my childhood, but I am sad that we’ll never get another game truly like it again.

This is just about how I feel about this series just in Not so many words, Like I could actually rant for an hour about how much I think the first game is better.

Awesome Video! My Rankings: 3. Original (most unique style however I never played it) 2. Dark Moon (the only one I have owned but still the second best) 1. 3 (I played it at my friends house and its super cool!)

I personally liked 3 the best (granted it was the first one I played and I played the 3DS version of 1.) I did like the spookiness of 1, but 3 was downright charming (this part may have had more weight if I played them as a kid before I had access to more horror media.) I especially love the Easter egg at the end where you rescue Mario and he attempts to join Luigi, but quickly does some jumps that aren’t possible in this game, leaving Luigi in the dust. Cute nod to how Mario games are usually platformers, and the fact that he ends up quickly falling into a trap is a reminder that this is a different kind of game built around Luigi’s more timid approach. That’s just one example. Loved having a ghost dog, loved exploring a huge hotel, loved all the unique puzzles, loved destroying things, loved the Toads following you around like baby ducks, loved seeing Luigi’s reactions to everything (granted every game has that, but I love watching a scaredy cat in a Situation)

What I would really want is a pack that includes remakes of the original and Dark Moon for the switch.

I feel though as if Dark Moon was a lot darker, has more atmosphere, and tried to make the ghosts a bit scary, then this would be either #1 or #2. I still love LM2 And it's my favorite for the combat alone. I just wish it had the atmosphere of LM1 and the Graphics of LM3

I've never played LM1, I've beat LM2 on 3ds, and I'm still playing the 3rd game which might be my favorite one.

I prefer the original because in rooms when the lights are off it gives a more eerie atmosphere that can actually be scary at times I also like the ghost designs even just the ordinary ghosts but the boss ghosts will always hold a place in my heart because of their designs this is also the only game where you can see Mario move inside the painting also the creepy scraped game over screen lol 😂 The only thing I wonder is….. HOW IN THE MINUS WORLD DID MARIO GET STUCK IN A PAINTING?!?!

Dark Moon is my favorite personally, but to say its better than the first and third is hard cause lets face it all the games in the trilogy are amazing games overall, but I think Dark Moon would be my pick for the best, simply because of the amount of character they put into Luigi and Egad and the dialogue is just hilarious; and I enjoy the amount of puzzles this game has, and while mission structure is a bit annoying, it makes replaying the game pretty enjoyable, that being said if people asked me whats the worse, it’s probably the first, not because its bad by all means I think I have played the first one more times than I can think, but my problem with the first game is that there is no replay value, once you capture the portrait ghost than you can’t do it again, and the ranking system for some ghost like Sir Westen are a pain to get a gold on. Besides lack of replay value, the first game is just too short, the game averages to an hour long play through, even I admit I did a 100% run with all gems and gold on all ghost, and still managed to beat the game in 55 minutes. I like Dark Moon not only for its replay trying to get the gold on missions but even the playtime is reasonable and not over the top and that’s one of the reasons I couldn’t enjoy Mansion 3 because once again if you beat the hotel staff than you cant refight them in anyway, the poltergust in that game is just plain out busted, and the game sticks around for far too long with a playtime of 22 hours a run for me. Mansion 3 tried to take what made dark moon and mansion good, but the concepts combined just didn’t work for me in the end

i know the og luigi’s mansion would be my absolute FAV, but i’ve still never played it🥲 hopefully nintendo ports it to switch or a future console!

The original will always be better than the latter two after. It got everything right even for it's age and simplicity, there's again, this charm that is a cumination of things put together to make a great game. Luigi's Mansion from top to bottom is memorable, unique, impactful, and most of all; genuine to the Nintendo brand. The other two just aren't, maybe the third a tad but nowhere near as stout as the first. If anything the third tried to recapture the magic of the first and it shows which is why most likely people who played the first would love the third or at least stomach it.

Luigi’s Mansion is one of the hardest series’ for me to even try to rank (specifically between the Original and Dark Moon) because I just like all of the games too much

I remember back in the old days of KZfaq watching Luigi’s Mansion 1. I wanted the game so bad because it was cool! But I remember having my heart beating when a room is completely dark (because let’s be honest horror was never a thing from Mario.) But sadly I couldn’t get the game at the time because probably it was at the point in time where older games are more difficult to get wether there’s not many left or the price is expensive or if it was used. But when Nintendo announced Luigi’s Mansion 2/Dark Moon i was freaking out because to me this was my only chance to get a Luigi’s Mansion related thing I could get close to. And I do agree it’s not as dark or scary feeling but the game does still have some eerie and creepy parts here and there. Like at the beginning when Luigi enters the mansion with no Poltergust? Poltergeist? I forgot the Vacuum’s name but instead of the casual music 🎶🎼🎵 You just hear silence and for a couple seconds you can hear door creaking from a couple rooms or halls away. As if something or someone knows where you are from a far distance. Ok that might be far from what Dark Moon is but the game is fun. Luigi’s Mansion remake on the 3DS I wished I could get but the problem was Luigi’s Mansion 3 was coming out too so it was a hard choice but I went for 3 because I figured since I’ve seen videos of the original so I guess I was fine. The game I think I know not much people enjoyed it as much as the original but to me the 3rd game was basically Luigi’s Mansion 1 & 2/Dark Moon mixed in. It also had Dark Moon references and even had the engine of it! Even though back then the game is new, I keep having nostalgic feelings playing the game. I’m not saying like now I have it, I mean like while playing it for the first time I keep having those feelings for some reason. Maybe because of the Dark Moon elements? IDK but it was fun. Now when they introduced the new ghosts, I wasn’t disappointed or anything, I just wished they brought back the Dark Moon ghosts instead or at least brought them back along with these 5 new ones. To be honest these 4 are the same as Dark Moon’s ghosts but the 5th one I want to say it’s similar to the large yellow one but it’s obviously not. The rest are just smaller versions of Goob and Hammer. But recently I don’t know if anybody knows but the Luigi’s Mansion 3 ghosts first letters of their name actually spells GHOST when I learned that I was shocked and I liked these 5 ghosts even more now because I think the creativity of the names is genius. Also getting back to the game, when E gadd mentions (SPOILER ALERT) that even the original ghosts Luigi has caught are now free, i was hoping he meant like the Dark Moon ones. Because it’s obvious that the textures and models of 3 is exactly like Dark Moon/2. But sadly these Dark Moon ghosts never showed up. He could be referring to the boos or just King Boo and Boosolus or the boss ghosts. Because actually some of them kind of have big similarities to the Luigi’s Mansion 1 Ghost bosses. People might disagree about this but if there will be a Luigi’s Mansion 4, what if the Boos or maybe even King Boo himself gets a redesign. (If he will be the main villain or the final boss or even appears in that game. Also no they didn’t say they’re making a 4th, just an idea.) also good job on the video man!

I feel like the developers were conflicted about the control scheme in Luigis mansion 3. The first patch switched what the default control scheme was. It’s hard for me to decide which one to use I wish they just picked one and designed the game around it
