Fishing is even more OP in my experience, don't need to bother with fishing rods either, just spear fish your way to high skill and you'll never go hungry a day in your life as long as you're in range of water. Kinda boring by comparison though.

@@Ugh718 Yeah, though I think PZ makes spearfishing appear a lot easier than it is. It might have been a big part of survival for many ancient communities, but they did it all their lives and with the guidance of their elders. For someone today to just pick up a sharp stick and go stab some dinner at the riverside? I think he would starve to death in short order, no matter how many books and magazines he read, hehe. My father actually fished river pike with bow and arrow for a while though, and with some success at that.

@@Arbaaltheundefeated I just downloaded the game. Will i get Exp from fishing even if i don't catch anything? Will leveling up fishing skill take long? Should i focus on crops maybe?
@Arbaaltheundefeated
@Arbaaltheundefeated Жыл бұрын
@@STAIR_WAY14 You only get exp when you catch something (and the bigger the fish, the more exp you get), leveling the skill isn't exactly fast, make sure to read the fishing skillbooks for best results, as fully reading the appropriate skillbook will mean every fish you catch is worth several times more exp. The best approach I find is to first get a basic home base in order and build up a small store of scavenged food, so that you won't have to rely on the fishing at least for the first few days you spend leveling it. If you have the opportunity to use a fishing rod that means a higher chance of catching fish, which means faster exp, but it's fine to just craft spears to fish with instead (bring a hatchet/axe and knife for infinite fishing, basically) and then just fast-forward your way though the grind. Farming is a very reliable food source of course, at least if done indoors, what to me makes fishing better (once you have gotten past those early levels in it) is that you can do it "on demand", and get food then and there, while crops obviously take time to yield results. I'd say focus on what you want to focus on, as it's all viable. :)

Unless you're doing something wrong, foraging is definitely not faster than farming, it provides food earlier, but in the long run, farming will save infinitely more time, as the amount of food you get from farming can last you MONTHS, it's inefficient in keeping your weight up though, much like foraging, but it can still be done, lots of time wasted eating food though. And no, you don' waste too much time with it, if you're planting cabbages, you can get away with watering it just once, IGNORING every single illness the plants may get and still harvesting everything.

I've only been playing since last December, but I think Foraging should be at least B tier. Foraging can go up so fast, and you can find so many things you can't normally find in the game. @@KokoplaysMB Unless you mod the game for cars to be in worse shape, or maybe in a multiplayer server, it ain't a good point. Think of it this way: In your every day life, if you could get a new car at the price of a 10 minute walk and a jerrycan of gas, would you pay for a mechanic or body repairs? Probably not. With Electricity 1, Mechanic 2, an empty jerrycan, and the ability to tow vehicles if yo so choose, that use of metalworking is made completely obsolete. If you want to make your favorite sports car or ambulance last longer, yeah, it's fun to be able to repair them. But necessary? Not in the least.

I play with pristine vehicles on extremely rare, personally I find it more appealing to work on my metal working to get it up a bit so that I can maintain a vehicle. The game is meant to be played in the way you wish, thus why there is a sandbox mode. If you want there to be a million working vehicles, by all means that is your choice, however as many have stated, these are their opinions, no one here is wrong in their assumptions, but for standard gameplay, I would argue metalworking is a B, simply for the versatility of the skill, add on the fact chain fences are seethrough (unlike wooden walls), the use in mechanics, metal boxes, barred and sheeted windows, and more. Its actually a quite versatile skill.

Zomboid is a very personal experience game, so a tier list is very subjective. That being said, I think you did a very good job, I agree with most of what you said although I have to point out, I have had recenty a lots of result with sneak and lightfoot. If you want to do an expert looter, you will be much more relaxed while doing so and if you want to do a fighter, sneaking and lightfoot allows to kill zombies in the back one shot, saving energy to kill much more. My friend likes to shoot guns, takes risk and make a lost of noise with cars, while he does that, I loot like a fiend and kill all the distracted zombies because the gun and car noise combined with my sneak and lightfoot almost makes me invisible. Keep up the good work, what an amazing game!

Two thoughts on metalworking. One, it let's you repair parts of your vehicles which is real great. Second, which i didnt think of until I played a metalworking, once you get a torch you have a near limitless supply of metal pipes and bars. It makes survival so much easier.

Not anymore, disassembling now costs propane. You need refill every 10 tiles disassembled. Propane tanks were I think buffed, because you can refill from them 16x full torch and apparently they're more commonly found. Hurt my Short Blunt builds as well, but thankfully it's still doable finding enough propane and turn it into metal bars/pipes. I only had to learn which furniture dropped what to not waste propane. Also trying to keep low durability pipes/bars for crafting.

Pretty sure that "overshadowed by everything but short blade until lvl 7" is a criteria bringing it lower. The fact it is decent higher level doesn't hide the fact that you could have been decent 1500 kills earlier. Feel like Axe is a bit underrated here. You want to use Wood Axes for chopping trees, and use the Fire Axe for melee. The Fire axe is one of the best weapons in the game, and the handaxe is probably the best sidearm in the game, with only the nightstick coming close. Axes also aren’t that crazy hard to find. @@conraddevera Tailoring is easy...just tear the clothes of every zom you kill. This will increase your tailoring at first, and provide you with threads and cloth. Also use scissors to tear leather jackets...keep the leather, that's the good stuff. Once you have lots of thread, take a random piece of clothing (I like to use a leather jacket, but coveralls are a nice choice too because they have so many tailoring slots) and inspect the item. Then right click, and add padding to all (Don't use your leather for this...just cloth). You'll need a needle and thread. You can find needles in sewing kits easily. Once you add padding to all slots, remove the padding from all slots. Then repeat...hundreds and hundreds of times. When you run out of thread, go tear some more clothes. The higher your tailor skill, the more often you get thread. You can put leather on your clothes any time...I'd say do that ASAP, and each time you level your tailoring remove the leather and reapply it for the bonus. Best jacket is leather jacket. Best pants is leather pants. You can also apply leather to your undershirt, scarves, and leather gloves. The thing is, the more you play, the better you get and the harder it is for zombies to ever touch you - making first aid pretty much a pointless skill.

Even then, wounds are in 3 categories: "Will live even if unbandaged" / "need medical attention" / "if you're still in battle, you probably won't have time to heal yourself", and the only part where First Aid matters doesn't have much of an effect. *"I watch the doctor show."* Not a bad idea if you can put your hand on it. I do too. But I really don't go out of my way for it. See, the way I see it, you should be able to prepare your own medical supply (like poultices and sterilized bandages) and practice. Both actions should give XP. And you should get new abilities (recipes and actions) as you level up, and not have all those we have at the start. This would make First aid worth increasing, especially with NPCs and other players. Allow them to grind First Aid without just ramming themselves into trees, and the skill will be worthwhile. Short blade jawstab animation can not be triggered if there are more than 1 zombie within like 10-15 tiles from you. This is to prevent the jawstab animation from killing the player. Spears follow the same logic with its own stab insta kill animation. Since the jawstab is the short blade version of a crit. That means you will never crit with hunting knives if you are fighting several zombies.

Not only does the main threatening source of zombie attack threaten to end your run with a single strike but I find that you don't even need one level in first aid to heal a scratch or laceration with relative quickness. The only thing I could see them doing with this is maybe at level 10 you could have a small chance of undoing a bite if you act quickly enough.... but to my understanding this goes against what the devs want.

It's difficult to accurately rank these as it massively depends on where you're based, character build and game settings. How important a particular melee weapon is depends on character build. Your main weapon type(s) also influence what other skills you want to level. For example, if lumberjack and item respawn is off, to easily get axes you will have to eventually level foraging so can easily craft stone axes, which are very good in combat at high axe level and if you have some maintenance. I'd say maintenance is S tier personally. Ultimately means that you get more use out of rarer items and if fighting large hordes then it means you need to carry less weapons. Long blade there isn't any need to skill in as katanas are still a beast without any long blade skill and machetes are fine without any skill. The weapons are too rare to actively seek to level anyway. First aid is something you ideally don't want to level or skill in at all so definitely F tier. I'd say with regards to fishing/farming/trapping it depends on where you are on the map and circumstances. If you have plenty of space for crops then farming skill doesn't matter as you'll still have plenty of veg. To stay normal weight you'll prob want to supplement farming with a bit of fishing or trapping. If relying on fishing for food it is important to level so you are able to fish during winter and not reliant on rods. Aiming is more important in MP I'd say as the sound radius of guns in MP servers is less than in solo. Although I suppose the skill is important actually as without decent aiming skill you are basically limited to the shotgun. Anyway I could say more but I think this comment is long enough.

Hey man, fairly objective list. But there are things to say more about blades to *45 their mid-low tier. They generally have low durability, short blades can get stuck in zombies, they damage the clothing... now that sneak attacks require substantial skill investment to do reliably blades are almost worthless. And Axes have their own skill. And they fixed Axeman - it works for combat now. So if you really want a more DPS playstyle for mid-lategame, you can use Axes or Spears, which will do more damage and are easier to possess. Besides roleplay or as last resort, really no reason to use blades...

In my opinion as a First Aid Main in a multiplayer lobby. The amount of lacerations and burns on the neck region that reduce players from 100% to 50% hp in 5 seconds is staggering. Having high first aid is the difference from being able to: remove a bandage, disinfect the wound, and apply a new sterile bandage all by the time that 50% mark is reached. Someone without would literally die trying to do all that in one go. I saw one player almost die just changing a dirty one to a clean with the deep neck wound. Never undervalue first aid. It can be the difference between surviving or dying to something totally treatable.

If people give you hate for not rating First Aid higher, they do not understand the game all that much. In a world where even a tiny scratch from the countless basic foes can kill you, the ability to 'heal wounds better and faster' means very little. Not mentioning that you can take care of pretty much all of the possible injuries right off the bat without leveling the skill at all, so it's really not that amazing to do so. It's better to be better, obviously, but given how every wound suffered at the claws and teeth of zombies can kill you regardless of how bad the wound itself hurt, the best is to never get hurt in the first place.

For shotguns, their rate of fire is so low that saving 1 second reloading doesn't change much since you will still need to move away from the crowd to find a new shooting position plus you can reload while walking. Reloading would be much more interesting if there was a high tier special like opening ammo box while walking or removing the unboxed ammo weight addition.

Electronics is more specific to Engineer profession, it allows you to make the best trap triggers. As for Aim at S...in vanilla? You sure about that? Of all the vanilla guns the ones that get most use are shotguns as they are common/multi hit town clearing machines and pistols as they are quiet/light backup weapons. Especially the 9mm/38 special. Rifles just kinda suck unless you also find the 8x scope for them to take full advantage of that sweet +20 range, without a scope rifles are more of a dead weight.

Axes being useful as tools is hardly worth considering as a downside for the Axe Skill; though even using them for chopping trees still gives axe skill, so it's a skill you'll be leveling regardless. While they're not stellar, if all you want is chopping then stone axes can be sustainably crafted, practically for free (as chipped stones are common even at level 0 foraging), and if all else fails trees can be chopped down through attacking with a multitude of weapons. If you're using Axes as weapons, a good substitute for tree chopping is cleavers. As weapons, they're reasonably durable (with the standard axe being the second most durable melee weapon in the game), output a high amount of damage, and are the only melee weapons that can make use of their level 10 skill, as all other melee weapons behave as if their skill is a level lower. They also encompass all axes, none of this separation into a long and short category. If you want to chew through a horde of Zombies, the only melee weapons that work *as well* as the axe either cannot be repaired, are far rarer, or both. That said, the biggest flaw of the game is that guitars are considered Long Blunt rather than Axe. That last sentence was a joke.

1 - Double-Barrel shotgun. Shotgun that doesn't jam. Useful in the hands of the unskilled. Power-leveling. 2 - JS-2000. Shotgun that jams. Still useful in the hands of the unskilled. Power-leveling. 3 - M9 Pistol. Not too noisy, decent damage, decent clip size, plentiful. 4 - M1911. Decent punch, frequent ammo type. 5 - M36. Silent, but a bit on the weak side, and revolver means reliable but need to reload often. 6 - Every other pistol and revolver, ex-aequo. Because their ammo os rare or shared by a better gun. 7 - Rifles.

@Dimitri Alves foraging is a supplement to trapping or fishing imo. not a replacement. insects can be used for bird traps or for bait. you can forage farmland for fruit to bait rabbit traps. foraging for medicinal plants to add to cooked meals for happiness bonuses or for poultices. in my current MP game, i forage for insects frequently and since insects are non-perishable, we're saving up dozens of them for the winter . survive off of mushrooms/berries/spear fishing in the summer. and then use all the saved up bugs in the winter. grasshoppers/crickets/cockroaches for trapping birds. all the other insects used as fish bait.

Alright, so I get that you're not a fan of First Aid and Electrician skills, and that's 100% fine. But when you admit that there's no benefit at all to having farming as a skill, in reality, and you rank that above the other two, which you can argue don't have a massive impact, but can still possibly HAVE an impact, that's pretty questionable.

Higher farming gives you more info on plants so if you're going the farmer way you get an idea what's happening with them and if they have diseases.

I think your criteria is all over the place. How could you seriously say that tailoring is above foraging?? Or that nimble is above carpentry? really??? It doesn't feel like you thought about it much. It's been a while though, so how do you feel now?

I see what you are saying re: lightfooted. But, I think it's best to not rate a given skill based on a single playstyle. Clearly, lightfoot is not as useful if you are blasting everything with your rifle, but it's pretty good for other kinds of play.
