Repliku's last words being "Take care of her" actually was the intent and was what he said in the Japanese dub. Translators just dropped the ball and didn't catch it.

Inbetween this, the callback in Data-Xion's defeat quote that was also lost in translation, and whatever was going on with Saix's facial animations, I feel like KH3's localization really left a lot to be desired

@BearfaxII
@BearfaxII Жыл бұрын
@@joa6336 In relation to the Data-Xion quote: her defeat line, "This is... how it's supposed to be", was apparently translated from what in the Japanese version was the same line as "You'll be better off now... (Roxas)". In relation to Saix's animations: one of his facial expressions was a lot softer and happier in the Japanese version of the scene with him and Lea on the clock tower, but in the English version he has his usual stern facial expression on in the same shot. A few people interpreted this as the localization team or perhaps some of the higher ups (something something Disney) thinking the scene felt "too gay" and wanted to change it, other people more charitably thought it was just an oversight. Either way, it's a weird and completely unnecessary change; gay or not, they've been friends since childhood, it only makes sense for him to be genuinely happy to see Lea despite their current circumstances at opposite sides of the Keyblade War.

@@BearfaxII they did this a lot for some ungodly reason. When Sora tells Kairi "I feel strong with you Kairi" he originally says "you are strong after all Kairi". Which was supposed to be a KH1 callback to that scene where Sora tells Kairi to stay put because it's too dangerous and she'll only get in the way. Now Sora finally understands that Kairi has strength of her own, that she CAN help and that she's not some helpless little girl who constantly needs protection. He finally sees her as his equal but the English Localization Team decided to change it, making the scene all about Sora instead of Kairi.
@RenAsterion
@RenAsterion Жыл бұрын
TBF, the localization team dropped the ball a LOT in KH3... between flubbing Riku's lines to make them less gay for Sora (and thus muddling his characterization...) and trying to push SoKai ship at the expense of Sora's characterization ("WHY HER?!" makes it seem like he'd care less if anyone but Kairi had been killed, where as the original line "WHY?! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!" fits WAY better to Sora's "my friends are my power!" characterization. And then later, "I thought we'd finally be together..." vs the original "I thought we'd finally all go home..."? Yeah)... it's a shit show. So many of the dialogue changes with the Destiny Trio seem to be about erasing any strong feelings from Riku about Sora... and altering Sora's dialogue to push SoKai as hard as possible. I hate it. Sora loves his friends. He's gonna want to try and lift them up, not use them as a ladder to bolster himself (as a previous comment mentioned, "I feel strong with you" vs the original "You're strong, Kairi" lines). I HATE what the localization team has been doing. They were more subtle about it in previous games... probably because Nomura had a larger part in making sure his work was translated faithfully... but it did still happen. They've been trying to push SoKai from the start, and now there's strong evidence that if there IS an end game ship to KH, it's gonna be SoRiku (come on... Sora falling to his knees while clinging to Riku's hand and crying, "It's Riku! Riku is here!"? Kairi doesn't get that kind of treatment. lmfao), so they are pushing even harder on SoKai to the point of harming characterization... smh

i think the reason Sora freaks out at the sight of one Shadow is because he's used to there being "more where that came from" kind of like how you don't see roaches out and about during the day unless there's just no space for them back at their nest, tipping you off to the presence of an infestation he isn't referring to just that one Shadow when he yells "HEARTLESS!", he's freaking out because this place he thought would be a safe hideaway seemed for just a moment to have been invaded by an indefinite number of them But that's just a theory...

Honestly I feel you're on the right track about that, yeah Sora's handles Quadrillians by the hour... but normal people that don't have a keyblade can't exactly fend for themselves, like back on destiny island in KH1.

@@marxxplaysgames Mhm! -It's a nice touch that he specifically calls out Donald and Goofy, who he knows can get into a fight with Heartless at a moment's notice, whereas it looks like Big Hero 6 need to suit up to start having a chance against them.- He'd be understandably worried about everyone and probably jumped to the conclusion that the visor was a device that lets you see hidden, lurking Heartless-a terrifying prospect, to be sure... Edit: I noticed later that most of BH6 is suited up already, so that element is out.

And then everything clicked at the end, i saw THE moment where sora's (a bit of) trigger (and a lot of) *HAPPY* scheme started falling apart against Davy Jones, it was beautiful and actually made me want to watch the Pirates of the Caribean movies (and possibly edit the third movie by putting the scenes from KH3 to make a "definitive KH hype experience"

I admit, I love shitposting about how Kairi is boring and has no personality, but it only frustrates me because I feel like when she was first introduced, she had this “spunky low-key tomboy” vibe about her that I greatly appreciated. Her introduction was calling Sora a lazy piece of shit and telling him to get moving. I feel like we haven’t gotten to see that much after KH1, which just annoys the hell out of me. She had a personality, and it could have been a lot of fun. But a side-effect of them focusing on stuff that wasn’t her, and her being stuck in the role of “that girl Sora saves” prevented them from diving into the personality it felt like they’d started building for her. Hence why I roast her.

I think part of the problem with Darkside in KH3 is that the side games kind of positioned it totally different in the interrim. 0.2 had those World of Darkness Darksides (you know, the ones we've known since KH1 lived there naturally), Days had it as a series of bosses you fought that got harder as you went up the family tree from Darkside to the Dark Follower, who had an additional attack to stop you from just standing in the back and pelting it with magic like a wimp, and Re:Coded has the initial Darkside encounter (which is markedly different from any other one in that Darkside itself is totally inaccessible outside of when it is attacking) go through three forms, with it getting buggier as it goes in and eventually becoming something that doesn't even look like Darkside, and then in the final boss fight shows up as a form Sora's Heartless takes with significantly more vicious attacks than any other version to that point, before turning into Anti-Sora directly. But then it just... shows up in KH3, with even less attacks than it had in KH1? And then shows up in a gauntlet in the final true ending where it's barely gotten back to KH1 level, except now you can attack it at literally any time because your jump height and rising attacks can reach up even to its face at any point? Why? What's the point? He's not even remotely threatening then, you needed to give him more to do.

My first playthrough of KH3 was after he was announced for Smash, on Critical, and I thought the hardest had passed with BBS, thinking that the last Keyblade Graveyard was the hardest the games would get. I had heard KH3 was overall easier than the others, forgetting that Critical was added when Remind came out. When I played this game, I think this might be consistently the hardest in the series. I remember taking a lot of attempts on numerous bosses, every end of area boss took like 10-20+ attempts. Keep in mind, I had binged the entire series up to this point, and thought I was used to early game struggle to mid-late game ease until the very end. But this game was constantly kicking my ass, there were some regular enemy encounters that would often wreck my shit. But overall, no boss was as hard or as fun as the “Nort Court” that shit took me at least 3 hours to fully get through, and it was mostly the first phase being a bitch. I think the worst part is, even if you beat one Nort and then die after damaging the remaining alive ones, they respawn at full health, which only made it take longer. And then Armored and Final Xehanort were somehow harder, and the Remind fights ducked with the menu. Still, I think I love this game, and Sephiroth in KH2 might still be my favorite fight in the whole series. And no, I have yet to beat the Data Org fights in Remind, I kinda lost motivation to play KH after steamrolling the entire series over the course of my senior year of high school, but am getting through it every now and again.😊

Sometimes calling someone a "content creator" feels derogatory to me because it evokes the sterile feeling of something being created purely to be consumed, digested, and quickly forgotten about. That's never what Pat's videos feel like to me. It sincerely feels like he's building a library of videos that I actually want to return to and revisit later, rather than just a curiosity I've seen on my homepage with no staying power. It's in part because he takes the essay approach and puts real thought into what he's saying rather than just speaking on the fly. But it's more than that because they feel pretty painstakingly produced. It would be so easy to make a ranking where you just put up footage of yourself fighting each boss and talking over it, but the imagery used really effectively demands the audience's attention and enhances the already smartly written commentary (and that's to say nothing about the hundreds of clever visual and editing gags and easter eggs). I really don’t care THAT much about Kingdom Hearts but Pat really makes a compelling case for why this franchise is actually worth talking about. And I’ve worked in the field of documentary post-production, and I can say with authority that there are famous or well-regarded filmmakers making archival footage-based feature-length theatrical or broadcast released documentaries that have put less effort into their final product (in both planning and editing) than Pat has here in his own feature-length video. Whatever success he has had or will have is totally earned, and probably not enough.

Also, this comment makes it feel like we're talking about serious business but rest assured Pat is extremely funny and strikes the perfect balance between taking the material seriously (to provide substantial and insightful commentary) and understanding how funny and ridiculous it is (in order to make fun of the franchise and himself) with some really funny writing, visuals, and editing.

not me about to straight-up sob. Thank you so much. I know it might seem pretentious or too self-serious, but I really do want my channel to feel like a library of projects instead of "a channel with videos on it." Obviously it's still that, but I really do want each one to feel like an experience. Obviously there are memes and off-the-cuff things thrown in, but I try to make it apparent that they're like a "sub-series" separate from what I consider the real chronology of the channel. Thank you again for saying all of this

I'm always impressed at your script work, the way you can riff out metaphors like crazy without skipping a beat is amazing. Once I recover from a great joke, you're already making the next one. Its so exciting whenever you release videos, this is one of your best ones yet! Your commentary on the Davy Jones fight just convinces me more that I wish somehow we could play Roxas v Riku in HD. The DS graphics are not enough. edit: The cameo from Richard Epcar was so sweet

Your content is top notch, of all the channels I watch your one of very few (less than 5) that I feel doesn’t put on a persona or fake anything for views, you seem genuine and legit enjoy making way you do, and in this day and age is something incredibly rare on KZfaq, for what it’s worth, your the only creator I’ve considered supporting on patreon. Take the good and the bad, your not human otherwise and if you ignore tha negative how can you grow. All the best

Pat you are the reason I finally made the push to get more into this series finally getting and playing these games this year. So far I have played 1, finally finished com after never beating it as a kid, and 2. I’m going to be moving on to bbs soon and hopefully have the rest of the series finished next year. These are games I wish I had played as a kid I’m loving them. Also as a side note your comedy game has been consistently improving this video had me laughing so much.

always appreciate the thoughtfulness and humor you bring to videos like this. i think i commented something similar god...a year and a half ago now? but it feels worth mentioning again that i found you randomly during a kh1 replay i was doing where i thought, hey i wonder if someone's done a guide for the treasures in this game, and came across your early video doing just that. i distinctly remember being like yeah yeah i'll just jump around through the video and maybe have to listen to this guy dryly explain how to reach some of the tricky ones. and instead i found myself entertained by a treasure walkthrough video and going to check out your other stuff. it was completely unexpected and something i've always appreciated about your work: you make a genuine effort to be entertaining even when the subject could easily be straightforward, and go the extra mile with videos like this, never taking things too seriously but also never shying away from your emotional investment in this series. great to see you still doing this with the same energy i enjoyed so much back then. i will say that i had to drop out of being a patron for a while because i switched jobs and had some financial insecurity for a minute there, but i'm planning to be back in the new year. i know every person counts, and i hope we can get you to that sweet, sweet 150 and beyond.

Kingdom hearts fills a surprisingly hard to fill niche today of a series that KNOWS it is utterly absurd in its premise, but refuses to let that hold it back from taking itself seriously. Very few other stories can have Donald Duck grieving for watching the 14 year old he basically adopted by accident _commit suicide,_ and yet Kingdom Hearts does that without it feeling “edgy” or “forced”, because the characters still act with earnestness

Small personal note on the Nort Quart: While I totally agree that the "titans of the series" comment mainly should include Ansem and Xemnas with the BBS funny keyblade storm in the background, I have a little bit more personal history with it. My first KH game was 3D, and Young Xehanort was an incredibly challenging fight for me. It destroyed me over and over, knocked me down and then time-stopped me to stab me again. So when I walked into Nort Quart, every member felt more important; the original villain, the villain who I enjoyed the most, and the boss that crushed me years and years ago and singlehandedly started my love for KH bosses. Fantastic video, by the way

58:55. No Pat that's not choking. Choking is when you get a piece of food stuck in your throat. What Xehanort is doing is strangling Sora and Aqua, totally different. He just loves strangling people! But yeah, another incredible boss ranking video, thank you for the early holidays gift. Your kh1 boss ranking is how I found out about your channel. I love this video a ton, just a few things I can comment on: 12:13 That's actually just the Flying Dutchman, it's just a persistent little octopus head. 15:00 Dude, I'd LOVE to fight Mozenrath from the animated series too, no joke XD 24:42 There ARE arguments I saw (TV Tropes did a bang-up job of it too) to justify why each hero is in which world, so there can be some speculating done there. Basically; Riku had the same godly expectations Hercules did and fell to temptation that required them to prove themselves, Aqua and Davy Jones were both masters of their crafts forced to go through matching 10 years of Hell only to be abandoned by people they cared about, Ventus and Woody share the fear of being left behind by their loved ones and ended up at the mercy of a psychopathic kid wanting to kill them, Mickey and Rapunzel are two nobles estranged from home who were rescued and given new motivation by roguish-type handsome guys, Goofy and Anna were both enamored with the idea of following destiny until it led them to toxic people that hurt them, Donald started with Sully's professional-only approach to their respective charges until they grew to genuinely care for them, and finally both Axel/Lea and Hiro lost someone dear to them and their stories are more about the aftermath of them dealing with the grief. 48:16 Yeah screw Unknown-Xehanort. 53:57 I mean, thematically it makes sense. Gothel is SO obsessed with keeping appearances, her youthful look, that the Heartless STILL just looks like her AS a Heartless. 01:01:10 Aaaactually the light balls he drops are purely for aesthetics XD You're supposed to check the Action Command gauge for this (the golden arrows that show up over the command menu as you're building up a bigger one) But you're right that it isn't as clear as it could be. Also, the order you fought the Nort Court is the one I like to do it in. With matching keyblades for each. Keep being amazing, man!
