I get what you mean by separating alien and sci-fi. I think alien can fit into sci-fi, but sci-fi doesn't always include an alien. Sci-fi horror can be purely atmospheric in space without ever seeing an actual alien.

Have you ever seen Train to Busan? Definitely my favorite zombie movie and such a beautiful, funny, action packed, and emotional movie.

i absolutely hate home invasion horror, i cannot watch them because even though the movies are not scary, thinking about someone breaking into your house is terrifying to me and one of my worst fears

Have you seen much South Korean horror? They’re really great at doing fresh takes to overdone genres and are just generally pretty amazing movies.

I think another sub genre which would be good to add would be maybe witches...? movies like: Gretel and Hansel, The vvitch, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Apostle, Suspiria, etc. And then I'm not sure if this could be considered its own genre, but maybe holiday genres? Movies like: Better Watch Out, Krampus, My Bloody Valentine, Cupid, Crawlers, Leprechaun, April Fool's Day, Black Christmas, Holidays, P2, Dead End, Jack Frost, etc. idk, movies that take place and revolve around a specific holiday.

Glad to see "The Platform" getting some love. It was so good. It was one of those movies I couldn't stop thinking about after it was over.

I would add satanic/cult movies like Hereditary, The Witch, Lords of Salem, etc.

Has anyone else noticed a small subgenre of horror about crazy fans of celebrities? Namely Misery, Perfect Blue, and Antiviral.

I absolutely LOVE Historical Horror. I think setting the story in a time where there are different values, cultures and traditions to the modern time makes for unique and timely scares. The VVitch for example really uses the witch hunt craze of the 1600s to its advantage. One idea i would really love to see executed is Mesopotamian or Cavemen Horror

We have pretty similar taste in horror so I trust your recommendations. You mentioned some great ones in each sub genre.

Quick heads up from the UK. Don’t know when it’s released in the States, but new British horror flick Saint Maud has to be on everyone’s watch list. Can’t recommend the movie enough and to give you a vibe of the picture, the US distribution rights are held by A24.

Since you put in "Aliens" and "Zombies" as their own category, I would add in "Vampires". Also "Cults", maybe "Revenge", and "Mystery". Vampire movies would be like 30 Days of Night and Interview with a Vampire. Cult movies would be Midsommar, Hereditary, and Wicker Man (1973). Revenge movies would be Mandy (not sure what else). Mystery I feel like could be pretty broad, but movies like Scream, Happy Death Day, and Old Boy would fit. I'm sure there's some overlap for some of these movies, or I might be way off base for categorizing some of these or creating these categories at all. Great video! I like the tier list idea.

One genre you missed is folk horror - things like the Wicker Man, Midsommar, Witchfinder General, etc. It's one of my favourite horror genres! And YES, I love dystopian films. We need more! Great video 👍😊

Really great compilation! I would add some other subgenres like Cult Horror (Midsommar, Hereditary, The Wicker Man), Forensic/Murder Mystery Horror (Fritz Lang's M, The Silence of the Lambs, Green Room) and Folk Horror (Haxan, The Lighthouse, The Witch, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders)

I also consider ‘The Thing’ a Sci-Fi horror along w/ body horror. Love that film. I’d even go with another sub-genre called ‘Infection Horror’. That would be most zombie films and my personal favorites, 30 Days of Night & The Crazies.

Haunted House Genre: "I'm the Supreme Witch; how are you?" But for real though, I'm SO happy you put that in Supreme. It could so easily go into over-played because it has certainly seen its fair share of flubs and cliches, but it's on of my favorite genres too. For Horror Comedy you should definitely check out The Final Girls! I haven’t seen it in a while, but I really enjoyed it, it has upbeat moment and really has heart. It’s very satirical of campy slasher films!

Alien pretty much defines genre honestly, it is horror, sci-fi, Slasher, invador, haunted house. Like it's the best just the best Horror Movie.

I 100% agree with you on Wolf Creek! It's not only one of my favorite horror movies, but one of my favorite movies in general! I love that it takes most of the standard slasher cliches and throws them right out the window! No final girl, no sex-or-drugs-gets-you-killed, no cheap jumpscares, and best of all, no unlikeable characters that you want to see die! Mick Taylor is legitimately one of the most evil horror movie villains I've ever seen. He's remorseless, psychotic, charismatic, and unbelievably sadistic. He could just outright kill you, but not before he makes you his plaything. At which point, you'll wish for a quick, painless end.

Great recs! I would have included Cosmic/Eldritch horror, mainly because my favorite horror movie of all time, In The Mouth of Madness, falls under it. And I like that you separated alien and scifi. I think it makes sense the way you explain it.

I think that doll movies could be a horror sub genre, branching out from the possession/slasher genres. Perhaps they are a little over done, but I think due to this I would class it as a sub genre. Child’s Play 2 is one of my all time favourite movies. Not that it is scary, it’s a movie I can watch again often. Also, I adore your content, as a huge horror fan!

I would have changed "Gothic Horror" to "Historical Horror" or "Period Horror" because that kind of suits it better. I wouldn't consider Woman in Black or Interview With The Vampire 'gothic' in style - but they are all period pieces/historically rooted.

Annihilation for me comes off as more eldritch/Lovecraftian horror than adventure horror. But, it defintely has an actiony vibe. I guess I just have it in a different area of my brain haha.

Found footage is def my fave genre, as well as Korean/Asian horror. You should def check out Gonjiam Haunted Asylum, if you haven’t already. Scary AF found footage Korean film. So, so, so good! I watch you videos all the time and really appreciate this list! Thanks!

I’m not sure if you’ve seen it but I HIGHLY recommend Cargo (a zombie movie) !! For sure my favorite of that genre. I believe it’s still on Netflix !!
