Thanks to SirToastyToes for making the Tiermaker! Check out the list for yourself here: tiermaker.com/create/common-h...
Inspired by an impassioned discussion on stream this week, I have taken it upon myself to rank every household appliance to see which ones are essentially, which ones are nice to have, and which ones are abominations. Check it out!
If you enjoyed the video, please consider hitting the Like button. It helps me out a lot!

Yeah, I didn't have one (microwave) for about a decade after the one i had when i studied broke down (realized that i should probably get rid of it when it killed the fuse every time i started it and even before then i barely used it.), Bought one on a whim some time ago and quickly realized that they, unless you have a restaurant grade machine, are kind of shit even at their basic functionality of reheating food. I guess you could use them for microwave popcorn if you are desperate or if you are litteraly minutes from starving to death, so I probably wouldn't put them in god awful but it's close. And if anyones argument is "heating water" i will throw a kettle at them. The only thing more useless for me on this list is a lindline phone and a sewing machine.

NL, the reverse option on ceiling fans is for use depending on the temperature. In summer, you want the direction that pulls air upwards, providing an air current that pulls the heat up away from the area beneath it. In winter, you can have the fan blowing gently downwards, distributing the rising heat.
@RoloFilms
@RoloFilms 3 жыл бұрын
according to the manual from our fan we installed a few weeks ago its exactly the other way around. Summer: Current down to blow moving/cool feeling air over your body. Winter: Current up, so the warmth from the radiator/floor heating gets pulled up through the room more efficiently.
@Tcj333

I have never seen a reversible ceiling fan in my life. In the winter I totally understand pushing the hot air off the ceiling back down into the room, but in the summer, it's still very pleasant to sit under the fan blowing down on you because having airflow at all is more important than the difference in air temperature between the floor and ceiling.

How the hell is fan on the same level as AC? Once its hot in the room, fan gives you nothing but hot air. This makes no sense. AC plays in a different league than fan.
@HawkOfGP
@HawkOfGP 2 жыл бұрын
AC also plays in a different league in terms of electricity usage. It's a mistake to say that "fans just move the hot air around". Well yes, but the point is that it blows the stationary hot air and moisture away from your skin and it is that effect that helps it cool you. Fans only become ineffective at extremely high temperatures with low humidity.

I have never in my life seen a ceiling fan with three strings.
@ericlamb4501
@ericlamb4501 3 жыл бұрын
Yea, that actually seems incredibly useful if it changes the rotation. Here in the US, as far as I'm aware, we have a small switch for that. But a third string would be amazing, no need to stick your hand near any moving parts. And for those who are unaware, most modern fans can rotate clockwise and counter clockwise, clockwise for winter and counter for summer. Since hot air always rises, in one mode it'll suck that air up and disperse it, making it feel colder, and vice versa it pushes that rising warm air back down.
@lesfrisbees
@lesfrisbees 3 жыл бұрын
Eric Lamb What moving parts? You turn the fan off before you flick the switch lmao. It’s also something you’ll change twice a year at most, so having a string dangling year round is horrible design. It’s hard enough to guess the right one with two strings lol

@@ericlamb4501 Why don't you turn the ceiling fan off before flipping the switch? Not only does it solve the moving parts issue, but it's much less taxing on the motor.

@MNWT9
@MNWT9 3 жыл бұрын
As a Canadian, its rare but there are independent stovetops and ovens. My parent's kitchen has one and its nice in that you can store all your pots and pans directly below the stovetop.

In the UK you get separate ones sometimes too
@KitZunekaze
@KitZunekaze 3 жыл бұрын
They are separate all over the world. You can get a stove / oven combo, and those are super super common, but they're not actually the default. Many people get separate ranges for a kitchen island, for example, with an oven under the counter. Regardless, they are separate appliances because they have different uses. It's important for us to know which NL sees as more useful in his day-to-day life.

@@karimchaffai5922 Well, here where I live having a coffee machine is seen as kinda bourgeois. There is such a great need for instant coffee that the economy has made it be the cheap option. Instant coffee (specifically our regional variant, which is called "frappe") is seen as a necessity here. I don't know any person that makes their coffee (at home) in any other way (the second most popular option is probably turkish coffee).

When you put a ceiling fan in reverse it causes airflow, but not direct cooling. I've heard that this is supposed to help heat the room, rather than cool it, but I can't say I've ever been convinced that works. I think it's more for keeping humidity from settling in places with moist environments. The secret of the third string, revealed.
