Obviously they are superior design wise when the designers had over 20 years of experience Aside from that I think original Zapdos and Articuno are still really solid looking

Zapdos: spikey chicken with creepy eyes and combusken legs Moltres: literally just a chicken on fire (with an elongated neck) Articuno: an ice bird with ice on its head that's stats are just plain meh for a legendary Gal. Zapdos: An epic orange bird with powerful golden claws overlapping it's shadowy black texture. Gal. Moltres: A fearsome terror hawk with a powerful beak and Epic colouration Gal. Articuno: a mystically coloured bird with cool (pun intended) wings and awesome glowing eyes with a beautiful tail.

Considering Articuno's abysmal typing offensively and defensively, it is by far still the worst legendary. Its speed tier is terrible to be offensive being slightly outsped by baxcalibur (the better ice type offensively), but its typing holds it back from holding a defensive niche. It doesnt matter if snow is up if Scizor can just bulletpunch twice and leave articuno in the dust. Stealth rock also restricts Articuno from running anything but heavy duty boots, making its base 90 special attack pretty much requiring a calm mind boost. And even with sufficient help in dual screens, Articuno is still not able to apply offensive pressure. The amount of effort to make articuno viable is just not worth it

“They went CRAAAZY with its Galarian form!” Bro it genuinely looks like they tried with Moltres and Articuno, and just got bored with Zapdos… I mean, they changed the colors, fluffed it’s feathers, and made it stand up… Articuno took on a more regal look with a total design change. Moltres got Re colored and flames added to it to make it look more like a phoenix. Zapdos… got nothing spexial

Honestly the Galarian birds should be ranked in their own spots. The quality gap between Zappos and its Galarian form would make it impossible to rank them together.
