As a Red Wings fan, I haven't been this excited for a season since we made the playoffs.

Anton Forsberg was very good last year and had a .917 save percentage. He is very underated and wasn't even mentioned when talking about senators goaltending. He and Talbot should make a very solid tandem in net yet apparently goaltending is a problem for the team. The Sens have better goaltending than the habs, the wings, the sabres, the leafs, and the bruins. I don't get how the Sens can be in fun but bad when that's where they basically were last year and have since added Giroux, DeBrincat, Motte and Talbot. They also have Sanderson and Pinto coming up. That's 6 key players. They are definitely in the playoff hunt.

Quiz idea, at work, I play a game with my friends where we take our favorite nhl team, and find a player who both played on that team and another team. For example, my favorite team is the Blues, and I'd list players who play for the blues plus another team without repeating a player Anaheim: David Backes Arizona Coyotes: Dimitri Jaskin Boston Bruins: Vladimir Sobotka, but I couldn't use Backes twice, its surprisingly difficult, with a time limit I'm sure it'd hit your difficulty of a challenge

As a Wings fan, I agree they could be on that line between playoff hunt and "fun but bad". All depends on how the new guys work out. Also funny how your perception of "bad" becomes after the Wings 19-20 season. They finish with 85-ish points, I don't look at that as bad anymore. lol

Having the Devils in the same group with Buffalo, Montreal, and Chicago is a joke. Their forward group consists of: Jack Hughes (56pts in 49gp) Jesper Bratt (73pts in 76gp) Nico Hischier (60pts in 70gp) Ondrej Palat (49pts jn 77gp) Yegor Sharangovich (46pts in 76gp) Erik Haula (44pts in 78gp) And Alex Holtz who was great in the AHL last year and looks even better after a summer of training with the guy who took Jesper Bratt from a 6th round pick to NHL All-Star. Their defense (right side especially) is really great and underrated: Siegenthaler-Hamilton Graves-Severson Smith-Marino The biggest question mark is clearly the goaltending, but Vanecek is solid and Blackwood is finally fully healthy for the first time since the start of the 2021 season. If Blackwood can even somewhat bounce back and be decent, the Devils are at least hovering in the area of a wild card spot.

Logan Thompson in Vegas is a good ass goalie he’s going to shock a lot of people. He earned a starting spot last season and he’s already off to a good start. We don’t need our goalies we got LT 💪🏼

Playing full length seasons we will again be reminded how tough it is to go back to back. Avs are a solid team, but for this reason I don't have them winning this season. Honestly I'm willing to leave the "favorite" open as I don't see a clear choice between the contenders. As to the Yotes I agree with Jessie (yeah, I said it). My Blues team had a great prospect pool when Bill Armstrong was our lead scout. I don't know how good BA will be as a GM overall, but I see all the picks Arizona had this summer with the best man at the helm to be making them... It should be a very different Coyote team in 5 years. (The history of some high picks not panning out is pre-BA) Rangers are looking poised for greatness in my view. If Igor stays healthy this will be a scary team. I'll stop short of "favorite", but an easy dark horse pick. Much as been made of Calgary's roller coster summer. For good reason! Even for an outsider that was one hell of a ride!! They'll be back strong again. Better than Edmonton imho. If Detroit, Columbus, or Ottawa made the playoffs I would not be shocked. All 3 would shock me, but I can easily see one possibly two of them getting in, and maybe Boston dropping out. Will see how injuries, or old age declines effect other teams dropping out. Homer take on the Blues: Loosing Perron and Husso hurts us without a doubt, and there were no big adds. Perron was a reliable playoff performer. What may offset this is watching our prospects evolve. Expect to see even more out of Thomas and Kyrou as they enter their prime. (Barbashev as well. Hidden gem there.) A good pool coming up behind them as well with Perunovich(when healthy), Neighbors, Brown, etc. Defense looks good, but thin. I'm happy with Krug - Faulk, Leddy - Parayko for a top 4. Mikkola is raw talent I expect to improve with experience and discipline and Bortz can still hold it down in a bottom paring. Not a great defense, but good enough. No room for injury though. Adding a solid stay-at home defenseman would be huge. (Plenty of forward depth to trade.) Goaltending is a tun of reliance on Binnington. Hofer isn't ready for the NHL yet, and I'm not happy GreiSS is on the team at all (for many reasons, also sub-par goaltending). I understand Husso leaving. He earned his starter money and Binnington is on a 6x6 so he's a cap causality. Wish we kept Lindgren - solid affordable #2 imho. Binny will have to carry a large load. Will need to take more starts, and we hope he doesn't face as many quality shots as early last year. Can't afford injury here either. Overall Take: Should score a bunch of goals again. Love our top 6!! Make that top 9. Aw hell make it top 12 😄. Defensman and Binnington need to stay healthy. Hope is to make the playoffs (should easily) and see if our Nutcase in Net can go on the kind of magical run we know he's capable of.

Its kind of amazing how off this is halfway thru the season. Id love to see them revisit this tier list

I would move the Kraken and Sabres up to “Fun But Out”. Idk but I like what Buffalo got going on and the Kraken in their sophomore season could take a step up. The defense is what I wanna see but other than that, I think Seattle could make a tiny run if things click.

Y'all are underrating the devil's so hard rn. If they had even league average goaltending last year, they woulda still been playing meaningful games towards the end of the year. (granted, they wouldn't have made the playoffs, but they would have had like 80 points instead of 65). This year, as long as they stay healthy, they are gonna be right around a wildcard spot. Maybe not in one, but around one

Really gotta agree with Buffalo needing to be up to the Fun but out tier. Lot of youth, promising talent, but not quite ready to make a playoff push. They are right in line with everything that the tier is stating.

Steve Briere is going to help Grubauer a lot. I’m hopeful for a bounce back year that will almost certainly be a significant improvement over last year.

I hope the Sabres are "Fun But Out". I think they'll be better than last year, and I find them fun to watch for the first time in a long time. Youthful enthusiasm is all over that team.

How do u put the jets and the habs in the same category

Remember, Sabres were 5th in the Atlantic last year, and would’ve eclipsed 100 points if they kept the pace from March throughout the entire season. Now with that being said, all these young guys are just going to get better.

The disrespect to the devils is wild. We’re ridden with Injuries last year to Hughes, Hamilton, Hischier and more. They started 7 different goalies due to injuries too. Added good vets in Palat and Haula up front and have a solid D core with adding John Marino. Hughes, Bratt and Hischier all primed to continue to take next steps. Aslong as the team can just stay healthy they’ll be able to sniff the playoffs easily. I have no doubt they’ll finish higher then the Sabres.

I think you could have renamed those tiers to be "Out but on the upswing" and "Out and trending down" instead of "Fun but out" and "No chance" respectively. To me that seems like the cleanest way to classify the teams that are for-sure out while still adding some extra color to that category. Maybe consider that for next time?

As a Sens fan, I feel like you guys to do. Fun but out, but on the brink. I think a lot has to go right for them to make the playoffs. It takes defensman longer to get comfortable, and asking Sanderson to play top 4 minutes in his rookie season is a big ask. I wouldn't bet against them to make the playoffs, but you guys are right. Lots of new guys. The first few months should be pretty telling The key is Forsberg, and if he can handle all the games with Talbot out.

Admitted Kraken bias but they are Fun But Out for me. Basically are adding Burakovsky, Bjorkstrand, Schultz, full season of Matty 'Calder' Beniers, Wright, healthy Schwartz, and a healthy Tanev. With a full offseason and Grubauer coming back to his average level, this team competes to the very end but does miss the playoffs. Much improved with a lot of optimism for the long term.

Bruins are the underdogs this year and for no good reason tbh. Theyre playing without Marchand and Coyle and still look to have a top 3 1st/2nd line so far into the year. Mix in a goalie thats young but already looking like the real deal were probably going to be high end cup contenders by mid season (injuries permitting)

I understand why you guys put the Pens in playoff hunt, it makes sense on the surface, but they got extremely unlucky in the playoffs last year with all the injuries. They led the Rangers in xG in every game except one, completely dominated them 5 on 5. And based on the first two games I don't think that has changed much from last season. I also questioned the Marino trade but I've come to the conclusion that he was a cap casualty to keep Rust and/or Malkin. Would you rather have to find a FA that can offer near point per game scoring at a cap hit of 5-6 million or trade and replace Marino? I think the answer to that is obvious.

Matt Grzelcyk is at practice full conctract. Marchy and mcavoy are coming back in november which is great. Also ottawa is overrated by a lot. Some of thir forwards are unproven, other than chabot they have no D, also talbot is risky and he is out for a while.

i dont get how they said the pens didn't improve. Marino plateaued and getting Ty Smith to replace him gives a bit of upside and then replacing Matheson with Petry was great. You get a more refined and better top 4 guy to play. Poehling in that trade also gives better upside to the bottom six, more than rodrigues did. Bring back Rakell and then the supposed upside Kapenen brings gives you one of the the better top six's you'll see in the league.

I am and will always be a Ducks fan. The Ducks have the talent, just need to pull it together and focus. I am really looking forward to this season.

I'm a Blues fan and I think they are a cup contender. Perron is a big loss for sure, but roughly the same core is returning and outside of the Cup Final against Tampa, the Blues were the only team to look competitive against the Avs. When they committed to Binnington they lost 1 game before he got injured. The Blues just aren't super flashy with really big names, but they battle every year.

Devils are being absolutely undermined. Pens get pushed up and they mention marino is a solid loss for them. Where do you think he went? When they mention the top 6 of the devils is comparable to the sens. I would even argue devils depth runs a little better than most teams and defense is stronger than it's ever been.

I think Carolina's cup contention depends on 3 things. 1. Does Necas bounce back to his elite goal scoring from two seasons ago 2. What kind of stride do the young kids make in Jarvis and Drury 3. Does the defense hold up with the loss of TDA and now Gardiner not coming back. Yes they added Burns but they still haven't found that solid 3rd pairing still. Bear is not what they hoped he would be, maybe DeHaan or Chatfeild pan out but as of now that third pairing is still a big question mark
