Interestingly, the asymmetrical locks on both Kaeya and Eula according to some people are called lovelocks, which were common amongst European aristocracy for showing that they were already devoted to something or someone. So yeah, at least with those two, the asymmetry was intentional

Yeah, many of these hairstyles (not all) are based on cultural hairstyles like Zhongli's hair is similar to the lovelocks but historically in Chinese culture it's more like their status and to cut the hair is to be shamed. Just be aware of these things please. ;)

Even tho some of the genshin characters have yeeyee ass haircuts, I think they make the character designs more interesting. I'd rather have wacky mullets and rat tails instead of npc hair cuts on all the characters.

this. this is the one thing that made me reconsider things when i was analyzing their hair myself - it might not make a huge amount of sense when you look closely at it, but for a character design aesthetic thing it definitely works

HoYo just has this thing with giving guys a perfectly nice looking haircut then just slapping a ponytail on the bottom. This is even somewhat a case with Aether; while his braid does definitely look more intentional, it's kind of disconnected from the rest of his hair.

IKR I love asymmetrical haircuts. I do agree the thin rat tails and ningguangs thin hair should just be a bit more filled out though oh yeah and albedo with more fluff for his hair like his art. Then the haircuts would be a bit fixed up and nicer looking on the models.

I gotta give credits to albedo, venti, ayato and aether. Most guys in genshin just have messy hair (we don’t talk about xingqiu here) but these gentlemen decided to take their time to style their mane. I’m a guy and if I have enough hair, I’d chose to be like albedo Also, it’s almost like Itto intentionally makes his hair messy

ayaka has a traditional hime cut, but her hair is just put up and the hime bangs are tied. that is why her blunt cut bangs are shorter than the side bangs, and then the rest of the hair is long. iirc the hime cut was saved for high-ranking ladies in japan from centuries ago, at one point it was a coming-of-age ceremony. it makes sense that ayaka has one because she is one of the most powerful and high-ranking people in inazuma, and the title of shirasagi himegimi is closely aligned to people basically referring to her as a princess of some sorts. it was considered an incredibly important and iconic hairstyle. it’s now still done as a fashion statement. momo from twice has rocked it before.

I think the best comparison that can be made for Ayaka is essentially her being the Kamisato Clan's equivalent of a Princess Royal (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_Royal) or Madame Royale (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madame_Royale), or in other words, the eldest daughter of the monarch/clan head.

Xingqiu has a modified version of the Asian hairstyle for young kids, both boys and girls. I think Hoyo went with this one to emphasize that he's a young hero. That said, the way everyone is crapping all over, particularly in the Western side of the fandom, is... pretty accurate to IRL experience. I didn't enjoy having it myself.

I like Yanfei hair length. Not too long but not short. Yun Jin's and Ayaka's has my fave bangs. I like the half-tied hairstyle on the women particularly on Beidou's. Tartaglia, Bennet, and Chongyun's are my fave men hairstyle so far in the game. Blonde is my fave color particularly Thoma's shade. Yelan's is my fave two-tone styled.

But if u know the lore.. the hairstyles do a lot of justice to these three. Zhongli is a god so hypothetically should have long hair, also in old China, Japan and Korea (not sure about other asian countries coz i havnt read any articles or research of em yet), there was a long hair guy fashion, especially for people with authority. And i think a lotta people really love that.. Sucrose is ..weird, in the sense that there's nothing more of her origin, she looks like a kind of an inhuman but at the same time half human elfish...shish..shish person idk lol. And she has no time to cut hair, she needs to research (lmao). Thoma has lower pony tail with less length as it's actually pretty neat as he's a housekeeper. And he probably has not a lot of time to care about that(?) The only problem i personally have is his... Front hair.. thing under his bangs.. i don't quite understand that and if anyone knows I'd appreciate an answer to what even is that XD

@@notraidenshogun8324 I definitely agree with you about Zhongli having long hair, and Thoma’s low ponytail, the thing about their hair that bothers me is the fact that only the hair at the bottom is long, and the rest is styled like the short haired characters, so it looks like either they have hair extensions but didn’t bother to style the rest of the hair with them, or they have a mullet 😂 Basically, if they either chop off the ponytails, or grow the rest of their hair out with it, I would be much happier 🤗

(In Japan, this was mostly just with Samurai) Cutting it off was seen as a sign of disrespect and rejection. Zhongli's hair is a symbol of his loyalty and honor to Liyue

I just love how Kaeya looks so awesome that he gets a pass for the weird side rat tail. I also think people are too hard on Diluc, I like everyone better in the comics which makes sense because you don't have to animate/create character models, but his low ponytail kind of suits him. Like the new skin looks ok... And I do LIKE the high ponytail, but it's just not as full and fluffy as it should be, so it kinda looks awkward again... Also I really think his new outfit doesn't suit him like at all personality wise, it's giving Childe mixed with Kaeya vibes. (If you absolutely love the new skin or just disagree with me, little reminder that that's awesome! You go! Enjoy stuff. This is just my opinion!)

The reason I think Kazuhas ponytail is sideways is because: when he grabbed his dying friends vision, his hand got burnt by it and that's why he has bandages over it, and u cant set a ponytail with 1 hand so that's why I think its uneven.
