Yes K5 is hit and K4 is miss! Bushings matters a lot, especially if you do have K5 and if tighten a bit too much reverse kingpin will bite into deck -so rather put a bit higher duro bushings , and if too soft bushings tighten too much will make squeaking sound. K5 is underrated ! - my 2 cents

Weighing 230 pounds and being 6 4 I prefer the stability of Krux. They seem lighter than Indys and feel more solid than Thunders, I tried Ventures for a while but when you get a new deck you'll need to take the hanger off everytime and mess up your bushing tightness. People say Krux don't turn well but when I tried team thunders they felt flimsy. Been skating Krux all along, tried other trucks off an on for a while and missed the feel of Krux every time. Even though I've skated off and on my whole life I only do slappy curb or parking block grinds so down low kingpins don't really appeal to me, at least as of yet. Krux are for people who weigh something, long as you do you'll turn easily

which truck do you recommend for transition? and what would be the size of an ace for an 8.5 deck?
@SlappyThomas
@SlappyThomas 3 жыл бұрын
I'm skating ace for a year now and have tested many many trucks and have different setups and can tell ace just feel the best. Nothing will turn as good as them, although thunder have a goood quick response in turning and also indy turn good. But they have one problem. They have the best geometry but the guys making them are just dumb. They don't make any hollow models and they just don't even try with their truck measures. I skate ace 44s on a 8.25 deck (ace 44 have 8.35 axle lenght but the hanger is a little shorter than normal so they actually don't feel too large for a 8.25, they feel perfect) and the first bigger measure are the 55s which have a 9 fucking axle lenght. So the 44 will feel too little on a 8.5 and the 55s are just enormous and absolutely not suited for a 8.5 deck. Ace producers are just plain stupid. So yeah, my advice is to go down and skate a 8.25 with 44 (maybe a 8.375 could be good too, maybe) or just get some indys or thunders. Hope i helped you out mate!
@vitorbianchiniborges5100
@vitorbianchiniborges5100 3 жыл бұрын
@@SlappyThomas I researched a lot what size to get for my deck 8.5, I even asked on ace's instagram and they told me to use a 44, I am from Brazil and here it is very difficult to find good trucks, but as I am going to travel abroad I was thinking to get good trucks, and then I found the ace trucks, they look very good for transitions and bowls, I even thought about getting a smaller deck, however, I really like wide decks, you know some good size that fits with the ace 44? I even thought about getting an 8.38 "deck or 8.47 ".
@SlappyThomas
@SlappyThomas 3 жыл бұрын
@@vitorbianchiniborges5100 @Vitor Bianchini Borges Hey i'm from italy and also here it isn't that easy to always find the trucks you want. Back in the days i just had to get indys a couple times because i didn't find anything else! Anyway, obviously the ace guys will tell you that the 44s are good for the 8.5, damn they'll even tell you the 55s are good for 8.5! They just try to protect their busines and not sound stupid you know. But yeah since the hanger is kinda short for a truck with 44s on 8.5 you will find them too short and have very little grinding room under your deck :( I heard some people use them like this with two speedrings on the inside of the wheel (between the truck and the wheel) and that probably helps a little but yeah, very little grinding room. Damn think that i was using the 44 with a 8.125 deck for a while! If you want the 44 maybe get a 8.25 or a 8.375 with the two speedrings on the inside. Or you could go up and skate the 55 with a 8.8 deck 🤣 but that's a very big boy setup. If you want to skate a 8.5 for bowl i'd just go with indys honestly. Damn the ace guys really annoy me, i don't get why they don't make like a 8.7 measure, i think they're losing A LOT of clients who usually ride 8.5 because of this. Good luck!

@vitorbianchiniborges5100 3 жыл бұрын
@@SlappyThomas Dude really, they had to have a model for an 8.5 deck, the way they answered me was pretty ignorant, at first I was thinking about getting thunders but from what I saw they are kind of low for transitions, ace trucks looked like best option for me, do you think that if i lower my deck to 8.38, 8.375 or even 8.25 it would be very difficult to get used to?
@sidwellsk8er
@sidwellsk8er 3 жыл бұрын
@@SlappyThomasOMG dude I went through truck hell because of this and I ride 8.5. I bought the 44s and the magic carpet thing was not my bag. I put extra washers on and it either wasn't enough or the axle nut wouldn't stay on. I bought 55s and they were way too big, i thought they would be like 159s but instead they were like 169s. If the average skater is riding 8.5 you think they would come out with a truck that fits that sized decks.

Did you know that even brand new trucks fresh from a skate shop has slightly bent axles? I don't know why they just are. They haven't even been ridden yet the axles aren't perfectly straight, what's up with that?! I discovered that little know phenomenon in the early 2000s. To test if your trucks axles are bent do this. Remove the kingpin bolt, washers, bushings and just take the hanger in hand. The hanger is the aluminum part that has the pivot and axle. Now Remove the 2 wheel nuts on the ends. Next with just 2 wheels on the axle grip both wheels with your hands. Sometimes using bigger hard wheels works better. Now this part is the test if the axle is bent or not. While sneezing each of the 2 wheels tightly in both hands start to force your hands in a twisting motion. The left hand and wrist forcefully twists in a counter clockwise direction while at the same time the right hand and wrist forcefully twists in a mirror image of the left hand and wrist. Both hands have to move in unison. What you may notice is the hanger pivot and bushing holders will start to swing. This swinging means that the axle is bent. Sometimes using an old walmart truck that has been skated alot will more than likely swing meaning that it's definitely bent. Now why a brand new trucks axles are sometimes bent I have my own theory. You see during the molding of the hot melted aluminum around the steel axle the extreme heat does something to the axle which once was perfectly straight but now the super hot aluminum has caused it to curve. It might take a long time for the aluminum to cool so in all that time the steel axle is going through alot of heat! That might be the reason why the axle bends even though no skater has ever used it.

I had one Krux and One unit phantom I think they were called. Two different trucks They did fine for me but they were brand new and I wasn't a heavy skater. I think there is reasoning behind the bigger the board you are more likely to like ACE. I skate ACE, It's my primary truck. I think it comes down to wheelbase. Usually when you start riding bigger boards you get longer wheelbases. If you look at the geometry of the truck compared to indy(ACE is honestly the same geometry of the 1982 Indy Stage III), Ace has a tighter wheelbase if you measure from axle to axle than Indy. I've tinkered a lot with different setups over the years. Usually for a tight wheelbase like 14 a truck that gives a wide wheelbase when measuring axle to axle would be thunders and is a good fit at giving a board good balance however once you get to a wheelbase of 14.25, Independent is my goto. My sweet spot is about 14.5 to 14.75. When I get decks that have 15" I just drill new holes for my truck at 14.5. Ace for the pivot cups, I use the riptide pivot cups for ace, keep the stock bushing. I like bones bushings on thunders usually, but for independent I like the soft shorty bushings. I messed with my trucks a lot for a while to find what I like. Every now and then I try something different just because changing things up can be fun. I've tried Independent stages 8, 9, 10, and 11. Thunder highs, ACE,Gullwing Pro III(same geometry of their 80's trucks, but damn that kingpin is too long.), Krux(I hate the most), and Tensor(I hate for their lack of turning but they are damn light if you like that, I don't). My current setup is a 9.5 American Nomad "New Wave" deck, I love a square tail(not very helpful for 360 flips but still doable) and the longer nose with a flat top rail for grabs, Ace 55(I know it's recommended for board size to be 66 but I didn't like how 66s responded, it was too stable for me, ripetide pivot cups, bronson raws(been a very good bearing for street and park for a year), 56mm "Lifer" Speedlab wheels, 1/4th risers(I like a really high feeling truck, gives me explosive pop and allows me to carve better, only trucks I don't need risers with it Gullwing Pro III since they are 57mm tall).

I’m looking into aces for a 8.5x32.25 vx creature board. Are the af1 aces better than the classics? Also I’m a tall dude at 6’2 and 170-80 lbs so that’s why I think I might like a bigger deck. This will be my first deck and the vx creature’s are 20$ more but apparently super durable

I'm about to buy my first skateboard since I was like 9 yo, Antihero, 8.06, want to cruise on it for a year before I start learning tricks so I'm going with Bones Rough Riders Wranglers - 59mm wheels to easily roll past any fucked terrain / streets, cracks, small rocks & pebbles in the way, etc. What trucks would you recommend bro? Wheelbite and injury is something I want to avoid for the first year if I can, until it's second nature; me and my board. Dope channel
@SlappyThomas
@SlappyThomas 3 жыл бұрын
With 59mm wheels you'll get serious wheelbite basically everytime you don't land a trick 100% perfectly. If you like big wheels tho i would recommend some indys or aces or also ventures high (not the lows, they're super wheelbitey!) if you like your trucks a bit tighter. But yeah 59mm wheels are enormous, maybe try something betwenn 53-55. Have good times on the board mate!

To help prevent wheelbite on skateboards things like tighter trucks maybe help little but dont tighten them until you have broken bushing in also get for especially cruiser boards things like riser pads may help you to have between trucks and board for making trucks lighter and distance between wheel and board smaller to have lesser of/prevent wheelbite.

I just started skating last month Dec 7th 2022 with a Walmart board. This month Jan 13th I went to Zumies skate shop and bought a Primitive skate board with Primitive trucks and wheels 52mm 98A hardness. Got it for under $100. The wheels are perfect for me and so are the trucks. I have better balance on the Primitive board a 7.5 and I can carve turn easier as well. The trucks aren't really tight nor too loose just right for a beginner like me. I plan on trying different trucks to see which ones I prefer. A 7.5 board is what I feel comfortable on. Of course I will try an 8.0 board I want to try an Element and a Zero board to ride them once I get experience. I heard a 7.5 board is easier to learn flip tricks on. Right now I'm getting used to riding it and going down small transition first. I'm taking my time to riding fakie going at a speed that I'm comfortable with. For me Primitive trucks are just right

These are the best trucks hands down on the market! The Thunder Titanium lights i have the 147's also, I own the Independent forged titanium 144's both are amazing trucks lol had to have them both! Btw my Thunder titanium lights 147's are customized with all custom titanium hardware from Japan! Here's what's on the truck? It has 1 top titanium bushing washer cup, and it has 1 bottom titanium bushing washer cup/2 Titanium hollow kingpin's/2 Titanium kingpin nuts/Titanium 7/8ths Allen key hardware/4 small titanium nuts that screw on the 7/8ths hardware /4 titanium Axle nuts/Tekton Precision-Profiled XT Steel bearing Spacers/Bones hard bushings/Riptide pivot cups/Bones Swiss Ceramic bearing's/Powell Peralta Dragon Formula Green Dragon 52mm wheels. The titanium hollow kingpin was installed by my local skateshop if anybody interested in buying a titanium hollow kingpin that's actually hard to get! in matter of fact the only company i knew that made them were Theeve came in a pack of 2 and they were expensive i used to buy mine on Amazon but they are discontinued now. the link is below they will be shipped from Japan! stoke-shop.com/collections/all/products/stoke-titanium-kingpin

Does anyone still ride destructos? I remember in my town growing up that's all anyone rode. And take shit about indys being way to heavy. Now I love indys,krux surprised me. Experiment. Just got some silvers and they seem kindve weird and the pin is really close to level with the axle. Looking forward to trying then though.
