A legal version could make you roll a d20 on every attack. 1-5 nothing happens. 5-15 venture into the dungeon. 16-19 spawn a 4/4 dragon of the chosen color. 20 spawns one of these dragons in EVERY color AND ventures into the dungeon. Equipped creature could be given protection from the color of the last dragon it spawned.

Most decently optimized decks have easy ways to take advantage of their graveyard.

I run fire and ice, feast and famine and war and peace in my favourite deck, and i gotta say that my favourite is war and peace. There is something incredibly satisfying when you swing with a double striker mirrodin crusader at the player with the most cards in his hand and you chunk his life total by a half.

I feel like you aren't taking the protection colors into consideration. Red, black, and white are the most likely to have chumpblockers and spot removal. Doesn't matter how good the damage effects are if you never get to trigger them.

Draw one and shock? That's really small potatoes. That's higher than it should be. Protection from blue is one of the least relevant protections since protection from blue matters most on the stack. It tends to have the least blockers and spot removal. He pointed out that this is draw for equipment decks, but there's a lot better draw for equipment decks these days, so it doesn't even hit the radar for me as that. It could have at least been a lighting bolt or draw 2 to make it more relevant. Especially when Feast and Famine just untaps all your lands. I think he has the top 4 right, but the rest of these are off. As he mentioned, forge and frontier is basically draw two and ramp. I'll take it over fire and ice. But blinking and creature recursion are definitely better than draw 1, shock... Even destroying an artifact is usually more necessary. How about I kill my opponents sword with it? It's the one sword that kills the rest. Very underrated

@@SwedeRacerDCyou put it on your commander, not only does it gain a +2 / +2 (for my Breya, she becomes a 6/6) but also she gains protection from almost every blue and red boardwipe in the game, but also she gets to do an additional 2 damage and card advantage. Not hard to put in my deck at all.

@@jooyoungkang3858 They all give +2/+2, so that doesn't help it rise in rank. It gets protection from most red board wipes, but zero blue board wipes that I know of, since they don't damage or target. White and black are the best removal colors so they are much better typically. Blue is the worst, because it's best removal is counterspells to prevent them from entering the board and equipment can't protect anything on the stack. Even red can make it so damage can't be prevented. It's the best at doing that, so your pro red becomes useless. A measly two damage is not that impactful and one card is nice, but this sword is not top 4.

I like Sword of Once and Future. It's in my new Obeka pirates deck, why I try to fit in good 2 drop utility spells and all three of the 2 drop extra turn spells.

@@hyperion9934 Oh I forgot that the rakdos sword was phyrexia aligned. It's funny, every sword is mirrodin aligned as far as I can tell, except the rakdos one.

You just switch Forge and Frontier with Heart and Home and this my ranking aswell, I'm glad you ranked quite high Light and Shadow, it's overlooked too much, same for War and Peace.

I play Akiri equipment with fire/ice, feast/famine, and forge/frontier. I tutor for forge/frontier first every time unless I need prot black or prot blue. EDH community is slow to adapt to the shifting relative value of old favorites and staples, but digging twice, ramping, and dodging the biggest blockers is even more insane than untapping your lands. Forge/Frontier #1, Fire/Ice and Feast/Famine are so different they're tied for #2, tbh.

I really wanted the U/B one to be more graveyard recursion focused, like mill three cards and then put a creature from your graveyard directly into play or something. Oh well.

I have a Syr Gwyn Knight tribal deck and for flavor run all 10 of these baddies. Not necessarily the “best” but it is super fun. AND with Leonin Shikari being able to equip at flash speed it provides a pretty solid blanket of protection !

Idk, I have body and mind in my voltron deck simply because I already had the card. When your milling for 10 each time, that really puts a clock on someone's game, and the 2/2 goes with the token theme I have going. The real reason it's in it though is the pro green and blue which is two solid colors to have protection from

Sinew and Steel & Light and Shadow should be higher up just because it helps you dodge some of the better targeted removal out there, as a voltron player it makes a big difference.

I have a Halvar, God of Battle equipment deck and I run all 10, plus a bunch of other equipments. The creatures are mostly Angels from Lyra Dawnbringer deck that I took apart. It’s super fun swinging in with equipped doublestrike Angels, especially the indestructible ones. Lol

still want a "Sword of All and Nothing" gives +2/+2. proc from colorless and multicolored. when equiped creature is blocked it gains first strike and death touch unless blocking creatures controller sacrifices a permanent that shares a color with the blocking creature. equip 2.

I just added Once and Future to my Korlash, Heir to Blackblade Swamps Matter deck with equipment sub-theme. It has a janky combo that can dump all swamps into play, and being able to recur tutors has been a godsend.

I don't get how Sinew and Steel is so low, prot from red and black is also one of the more relevant color combinations, I'd argue only behind white black. How that came in under War and Peace is beyond me

I run 7, 6, and the top 3 in my Voltron deck. Some people ask why not all and frankly because the functions of the protections are better served with Boots and…also boots but Trailblazer’s. So the triggers have to be good and some ain’t.

Wow the disrespect for fire and ice is crazy. Agreed with you up until that point. 6 should have been war and peace. 5 light and shadow. 4 hearth and home. 3 forge and frontier. 2 fire and ice and 1 feast and famine.

It absolutely isn't tricky to cast spells off Once and Future if you build your deck right. And even if you don't, Pro Black, evasion and card selection is enough to bump it above War and Peace in most circumstances, I think. In fact, it's crazy to me that you seemingly don't factor in the protection these swords grant. Light and Shadow is great for effectively being Swiftfoot Boots with bonus value a lot of the time, since the only spot removal you're regularly gonna run into that isn't white or black is, like, Chaos Warp and Beast Within

#10 for Body and Mind is so bad when Once and Future exists. Once and Future literally have no home, while Mill and Tokens are strategies, and Leyline of the Void/Rest in Peace effects are common and 1/10 of a deck gone ruins so many more decks than I originally thought was possible.

Fire and ice is my number 2 easily. There’s many times where there’s no creature with an etb to blink for hearth and home so then it’s just a meh sword of the animist. Fire and ice is always relevant no matter what 2 damage always has a target, and card draw can’t be beat.

I really thought the blue black sword was gonna be surveil 2. reveal the top card of your library, the player your creature did damage to takes damage equal to its cmc put it in your hand. Now I’m just sad

The Swords of "this and that" pretty much encapsulate how shallow magic is in reality. sure there are "thousands of strategies", but only a handful of actually useful ones. Go with the Sword of Dungeons and Dragons...at least it's fun.

I think you're not giving Body & Mind enough credit because the protection being from one of the best colors for removal and the other the best for creatures makes the creature equipped with it a difficult target to get rid of
