The best underrated metal band

Pete, at long last a Vanden Plas ranking show. Thanks so much for you and George for doing this one. I absolutely love this band. Awesome talent from each band member. Andy Kuntz is such a phenomenal vocalist. To this day I still can't wrap my head around the beauty of the song On My Way To Jerusalem. Every time I listen to that song it just takes me on a prog metal journey that is unbelievable. For me, it's one of only a few songs that takes me to a place of true awakening, a spiritual experience that flows through my entire being. A true masterpiece if there ever was one. Thanks again, and always, peace from the Rock Hall City.

I'm definitely going to have to dive into this catalog...that type of music is typically right up my alley but for some reason I haven't really heard them. I'm pretty sure that I've given them a listen briefly but don't remember any specifics.

3. Seraphic Clockwork. 2. Chris O. 1. Far off Grace. Listened to Far Off Grace to death when it was released. From the storming I Can See to the pummelling Iodic Rain it is essential listening. I Don't Miss You is one of the most beautiful ballads you will ever hear. An absolutely amazing band who deserve much more recognition than they get.

I really like their 3 first releases: Coulour Temple, God Thing and acCult. I was very disappointed by "Far Off Grace", and never got back into their "sound" (because it's somehow the sound that bothers me, not the music) after that. Saw them opening for DT on the "Falling into Infinity" tour, and left the venue with a VDP t-shirt! Cheers.

Colour temple is very special to me, i bought it when it came out in 1994, i was 15, it blews me away, wasn't that prog but i loved it and i still do. Clean sound and great vocals

Interesting band! This video pushed me into checking some of their stuff. Thank you Pete. Would you ever make a Ranking the Albums episode for hard rockers Kingdom Come ? I'd say they are worthy of an episode, as you only really talked about them on your "top 10 hard rock vocalists" video.

The God Thing has a special place in my heart, so that’s my number one. But I also love Far Off Grace, and I remember Christ O as pretty good. The Ghost Xperiment albums sounds really good too, but I just recently bought them and haven’t had much time with them yet.

I lost track of these guys after Beyond Daylight. 2002!?!?!!!! Dang, Time flies! Out of what I have Far Off Grace is my favorite album.

I have something special with the "The God Thing" album. Mostly midtempo songs, that sometimes go on forever :) But very good, and I like the overall sound it has.

Really nice video, interesting as you point out what you like more or less between a record or another, it's argued with kindness despite your divergent opinions so that's really cool. Every comment or video should be like that! I think Vanden Plas (it's my favourite band) never really made it through because their catalog is very consistent: there's no consensus about a record being very bad or so, so people don't really have to speak about their records. It's certainly not the only reason. Surely there are several others: they came after Dream Theater, Andy's voice not likeable by anyone, their albums are different but not enoughly for some people, ... Here is my rank: 1. Great show. I have been into Vanden Plas since the beginning. My rankings tend to align more with George’s. I think the first half of the catalog had more accessible hooks. Any plans on ranking the PAGANS MIND catalog?

I agree with Netherworld Part 1. Is very good!

Their 3 best albums to me are Seraphic Clockwork, Beyond Daylight and The God Thing, in no particular order. Christ 0 has to be fourth, followed by... yeah, the other albums.

Like Dream Theater I'm new to Vanden Plas but only half way through their catalogue. I do like them much more than Symphony X though, who I can't really enjoy.Like Dream Theater though because I am listening in no particular order my top albums are probably different to long time fans who have history with older albums. I do like the ballads too as they break up the 'sameness' of some of the albums.
