Ranking the Mega Man Battle Network Games

Time to knock another series out on my Ranked Mega Man list, this time Battle Network. It got a new lease on life last year, with the Legacy Collections, so I was able to refamiliarize myself with the games without needing to break out my GBA and old cartridges. How convenient. Sometimes I question what Capcom was thinking, throwing one of their most popular properties into some bizarre genre that they themselves seemed to make up, but whatever it was, I think it paid off in a big way. I loved the games, and from the sales numbers we're seeing with the collections, it seems like I'm not the only one. Of course, not all entries are created equal, so I'll be discussing what I liked and disliked about each, as well as a few ways they touched me personally, and say how I think they stack up against each other. Can't promise they'll all be unbiased, though.

Thanks for the well explained list! I just learned about the Battle Network Legacy Collection a few weeks ago, and the battle system looked really interesting. So I decided to give it a try and bought a copy. I'm currently in the Power Plant on the first game, and it makes me want to throw my Switch out the window, so it's great to hear that the series only gets better from here. I feel like the game has only scratched the surface of the battle chip system. In fact, these are my first Mega Man games in general. Love the characters, designs, and world so far. I think this is what will hook me into being a Mega Man fan!

This was enjoyable to watch and kinda inspires me to make my own list. I played all of them and am currently playing all the starforce games so I’ll add those in too one day. Also Keep up the good work on these videos man!!!

I don't know which one is worst. My initial gut was always 4, but replaying the first one, I forgot how totally BS drop rates and prices are, with absolutely no way to compensate--not even subchips. Add on not being able to run and the S code supremacy--there always are best codes, but there is debate for the other games, not 1, so I am second guessing. Then playing Blue Moon, I was squarely on 1 is worse until I got to the Metalman minigame and how nonfunctional it is, while being brutal. Maybe Blue Moon is the worst, 1 is 2nd and Red Sun is 3rd worst. The small gameplay loop of 4 still works, but the bigger loops are mangled and then for BN 1, every loop is just fairly bent, but are still loops.

You're not wrong on 1. Me being completely done with it makes it easier to say that it's not that bad. And haven't gotten around to Metal Man in 4, so I'll look forward to that.

Seems like a good list to me, with coherent explanations for your preferences. Though I suppose I'm not all that credible on the topic: *not* including side entries, I've only played the first three Battle Network games. ^^' Considering I only recently got _Mega Man Legacy Collection 2_ and both halves of the _Mega Man X Legacy Collection_ , it will probably be at least a year before I get around to the _other_ collections. Since you went with the _White_ version for _Battle Network 3_ I may as well mention, as I did own a physical copy of it at one point, I believe I went with the _Blue Version_ . No, I can't remember for certain. I do remember being told by someone, somewhere that our _Blue Version_ was the equivalent of the Japanese _Black Version_ and - having been a teenager in the 90s - naturally wanted the "kewl black" version. Even though I was in my 20s by that point. XP

Blue probably is the better version, since it has both Shadow style and the extra boss. But hey, I have a bias for genies and Punk ticked me off.

I played all of them exept for 4 i have yet to finish it because i got frustrated with the whole deal that is that game and i would rank them essentially like you did there is not much to add.

BN4's the most skippable of the series, so no need to hurt yourself.

I had an idea for a Mega Man video, I hope you don't mind me pitching in the comments: *How does the Mega Man franchise being composed of distinct subseries affect it?* Alternately *How do you define the different Mega Man subseries?* If those two things sound totally unrelated, I let myself get into another petty internet argument, and it reminded me of an (unpopular?) opinion I had about the Classic Series and X Series. I'll stop myself there, because if I go into detail I not only get another long, rambling post *but* I may unduly bias you, or accidentally turn you "off" the topic. So... yeah, go ahead and think about it. Maybe it _still_ isn't worth a video, but at least I tried. XD

I'll have to think on it. While not a bad idea, I'm not sure I have anything clever to say on the topic at the moment. If inspiration strikes, though, I might give it a shot.
