Dreaming Neon Black is my favorite album of all time by any artist. Bought it when it first came out and it's been that way ever since. It's one of those albums that just hits me on a personal level.

I love this band and really miss Warrel. His voice still cuts through me like a sword. The 4 prime members of Nevermore had a special chemistry of their own as a vocalist-guitarist-bass-drummer group, not unlike The Who or the original Black Sabbath. Pete I hope you will also do a Nevermore Top 10 Songs sometime, perhaps with Jeff Young so he can give some insight and appreciation on Jeff Loomis’ playing. 8 - Obsidian Conspiracy (2010) (to me, their only disappointing album. Some good moments but it lacks the conviction of the other records) 7 - Politics of Ecstasy (1997) (this is where the guitar playing really kicked up another notch. Some of the songs feel like they go on for a bit too long; pacing not as good as the records listed higher) 6 - In Memory EP (1996) (gothic and moody, hints of the awesomeness to come) 5 - Nevermore (1995) (a firm foundation for the rest of their career with some standout tracks) 4 - Enemies of Reality (2003) (strong lyrical themes of regret and disillusion. A compelling album after repeated listens) 3 - This Godless Endeavor (2005) (their most refined and progressive record, with lots of standout tracks. If you are new to Nevermore, this is a great place to start) 2 - Dreaming Neon Black (1999) (dark, brooding and a very emotional and personal concept album. Really hard to put an album this haunting at #2, a very close call) 1 - Dead Heart in a Dead World (2000) (an iconic balance of both musical and lyrical themes. So cohesive and satisfying. Those final 3 tracks - Insignificant, Believe In Nothing, Dead Heart in a Dead World - one of the most profound album endings you’ll ever hear)

I saw Nevermore two times, and Sanctuary once. At their peak, Dreaming Neon Black tour. That album was the highlight of Warrel's career. Along with Into the Mirror Black, one of the best albums ever to come from the U.S...

This is a band I’ve seen albums for but never listened to. I stopped your show to go take a listen to some of their tunes and have added them to my list. Don’t know how I’ve missed them out on this band all these years but will be adding them to my collection.

Thanks Pete, this was excellent! Sadly I never got to see Nevermore or Sanctuary with Warrel; I saw Sanctuary with Iced Earth and Kill Ritual but that was with Joseph Michael on vocals. They still crushed it. So many bands I'd enjoy seeing you do album rankings on--Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Jag Panzer, Manilla Road, Cirith Ungol, Tea Party, Thin Lizzy to name a few just off the cuff. Warrel Dane is one of the best ARTISTS in Metal and one of the best songwriters in Metal. Easily in the top 10! Superb artistic singer.. So underrated by the flock of metalfans. Only 7000 views?? Music poverty! RIP Warrel

Had the pleasure of seeing Nevermore in Burlington, VT. on their Godless Endeavor tour. It was Evergrey opening and then Nevermore, Throwdown and then In Flames. Excellent show. My favorite album by them is Dreaming Neon Black followed by Dead Heart in a Dead World.

My seconded favorite band of all time (after Iron Maiden). Absolutely heartbroken I never got to see them live. Im a massive nevermore fan. I think, this is the best metal band ever. Not the most influential one obviously, but the best imho. But I actually never listened to their last album untill two years ago. I read somewhere something that jeff loomis kept the songs deliberately short and simplified. So I was not interessed and never listened to it. But what a killer album, its really their best. I totally agree with this ranking, my ordering would be exactly the same!

Some suggestions for future rank 'em all videos...My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, and Ansthema...all great doom bands with some variety in their catalogs.

My ranking is quite similar, but Obsidian Conspiracy their most heavy? No way, I'd say the contrary, almost. Godless Endevour is so much heavier, as well as Enemies of Reality. OC is pop metal in comparison, even though I love it. They maxed their ultra progressive crazy riffing style out in Godless Endevour, so they had to try something different.

Sorry people, but there is no such thing as 'bad/mediocre Nevermore album'. You can prefer this album over the other, but the fact remains: NOBODY, NEVER expected after such an emotional , epic and angry heavy metal album the relase of Dead Heart in a Dead World. Simply, UNBELIEVABLE. All the tracks are just 10/10. How the hell this even happened ?>?>? Could you ever tell ''The sound of silence'' could sound like this? Belive in Nothing is the epitomy of melo - heavy - balad. And pretty much you can pick any song to be your favorite. A monumental metal classic hard to top by anyone. And 2000 was one of the best years in metal, IF NOT THE BEST! *I should write a book about it 🧐

Do yourself a favor and pick up the 90's Mercyful Fate albums; In The Shadows and Time are essential, hell I would even say that they are superior to the first two, musically, vocally, and production wise although not as impactful or influential. After that they dwindled in quality but all are still pretty good.

Amazing band, perfect catalogue. They should have been up there with the million $ selling acts. Hard too understand, other than they were too sophisticated for extreme metal fans, and too heavy for prog metal lovers.

I would place Obsidian in the bottom section of their catalog. Better than the EP and the debut but that’s it. Godless, Politics and Dead are superior records easily.

Sorry, dude, but Dreaming Neon Black is by far their best. It's like the perfect album. Tim Calvert gave a depth to it that they never reached again. I know no Nevermore fan who would put dreaming neon black third from the bottom.
