I remember waist trainers being a really popular subject with my friends who had just given birth. Some influencer was trying to market it as a postpartum necessity. I remember thinking didn't your body just go through a lot of stress and now you're going to squish it with that thing....

Love your tier lists! I would argue that Arbonne and Beach Body would be better suited in the burn your money tier since you can find the nutritional equivalents of most of their products for waaaay cheaper elsewhere (and better workouts (like yours) on KZfaq), but it's good to see them on the list regardless given how awful they are.

Yeap. Agree with burn your money. Not only terrible nutrition program from a “trainer” without nutrition education but also a bad business model. People call themselves coaches when they are just selling products. You should take a closer look at this company.

Aw, I have that book of 30 Day Challenges. 😅 I like it for the different ideas for how to shake things up, but it's also not specific to health/fitness. Like one of them is a challenge to deliberately find something that brings you joy each day.

I love how you included crunches. I feel as if there is so much misinformation out there. Last week in my gyms class our workout for the day was to do 100 crunches. The gyms teachers were suggesting that this was an amazing workout and would help us so much in our daily life. The workout did not help much and just gave me awful lower back pain.

Great video! The ad before this video was for MUD mushroom drink supplement. 😂 There is so much misinformation being spread to make money. Also in the skincare and food industries. The sad part is that it all affects our health negatively. Regarding crunches, I have never been able to do them without tweaking my lower back, no matter how much I try to correct form. I feel I get better results from engaging my abs while strength training.

You have to be so careful with supplements, especially because (here in the U.S., at least), they are unregulated. My physician has me do blood draws a few times per year to check my levels for things my body struggles to absorb or things my body doesn’t want to let go of, and we tailor my supplements (AND DIET) to address those. But he’s very picky about which brands he recommends and takes my individual goals, needs, etc. into account. E.g., I’m a runner, so I have an increased need for things like iron. I’ve always had issues absorbing iron from any source, so I supplement with a very specific formula 2x per week.

I love when you get passionate 🤣 Also with waist trainers, I wish we could get over the small waist thing. Working on their mind set is exactly what they need. Losing fat is one thing, but hating your natural shape and forcing it to change is another. Time for people to accept their bodies little bit more!

I was the biggest Beachbody fan for years until Autumn Calabrese became their superstar trainer and before they became an MLM. (Back when Tony Horton had P90x and Chalene had TurboFire). I loved the programs and lost a good chunk of weight and developed a good base of strength. Once Autumn came in, she sucked the life energy out of it by incorporating a bizarre nutrition plan (stupid containers), 21 day challenges, having some bizarre exercises (and all her modifications are just bodyweight squats), and her constant public complaining when people question her. (Sorry, but 60 reps of *full* Turkish getups and 500 squat jumps in a workout? NO!) Her strategy for Beachbody (which is why shes their supertrainer) is that you can’t reach any of your goals unless you use their products and do their workouts and follow their challenges and buy their $124-a-month Shakeology. I imagine many lost souls have spent thousands just trying to lose a few pounds. I recommend watching some of Briannah Jewel’s content about Beachbody. She’s a NASM CPT as well, and a dietetics student, and she has done so many deep dives into Beachbody, and simple critiques of their stupid exercises. She has your no nonsense approach to fitness too and a bucket TON of sass. (P.s - Beachbody is owned by Carl Daikeler, not Autumn).

Thanks for this explanation. I've been using BB products for over a decade (two months of Insanity helped me get over a nasty breakup and weight gain), and the Shakeology/supplements detract from (some) solid workouts.

Crunches helps with my abdominal definition but for core strength definately not enough at all. Funny enough growing up as a dancer little did i know that we practised alot of core strength, now that think of it. It alot to do with standing balancing and anti rotation movements (and also deep focus muscle connection thinking). I m over 40 now and not dancing anymore but still benefit from all those years in training ❤

Back in college a friend and I did P90X as a way to ~get in shape~ since I wasn't thrilled by the phys ed options by that point and felt awkward in a gym, and she conveniently owned the full DVD set. And boy, they sure did keep pushing you to follow up some of your workouts with the Shakeology drink lol. I was always like, "ummm I'd rather just eat a filling meal??"

@@rlj626 That validates me for never actually trying Shakeology despite the aggressive marketing lol. And yeah I actually did enjoy the program in a lot of ways! P90X was admittedly way too intense at 6 days/week and super long workouts, but I definitely got stronger (did my first pull-up with it!) and thankfully I had enough caution to not push myself to go all out every day. I could see some of their programs resulting in injuries for exercise newbies but for me there were a lot of benefits.

If I had to guess, I would say that the comments you got about corsets were pointing out that women in the past wore them for support, not to get a tiny waist. That is true, but these modern waist trainers seem to be all about cinching and aesthetics in a way corsets of the past were not. It's all to get that desirable Kim K waistline. Not a fan.

Beachbody does have its pro and cons, I deff don't like the biz size and the "nutrition" part.... its very diet culture. felt super restrictive. I used shakeology for years. I am not going back. I use the just regular whey. way better, taste way better. mind you this were my ED got worse, which is why quit ! and went on my ED healing journey. I think a lot people who followed me got really confused due to my weight gain . I was struggling alone mentally and emotionally.

@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole Жыл бұрын
....how?
@paulgaras2606
@paulgaras2606 Жыл бұрын
@@JustinaErcole It’s obviously not. But it’s what people think of when they say cardio, even if they know better. it’s hard to shed the notion that cardio has to be really high intensity to do anything. Being out of breath dripping sweat and feeling like you’re gonna fall over is kinda burned into the psyche of the fitness industry and even if you know better it’s hard not to reflexively ratchet up the intensity, even if your goals don’t require that. It’s also extremely closely connected to what people think of for fat loss. Which tends to exacerbate the tendency to over train or over use. This is kind of reinforced by phrase like “calories in calories out,” or “burning fat” or “burning calories” and those pesky calorimeter devices on machines and fitbits and stuff. I just find that as a category of exercise that cardio is fraught in ways that strength training, as another broad category, is not as much. And there are a lot of gyms and trainers that certainly take advantage of people’s misperceptions, intentionally or otherwise.

I don’t think you should have included something as vague as challenges. A lot of people join challenges and end up becoming regular exercisers. You even said your challenge was good. I get what you were saying though. Just too general in my opinion. I promise I’m not a hater. ☺️
