Barbies come in different tiers now. The more expensive ones have articulated joints, nicer clothes and hair, tiny accessories that will immediately get misplaced, etc. The cheapest ones are like $6 bucks for painted on leggings and a tutu, have a nice day.

Fushigi is literally "Contact Juggling is an intense skill to learn and master, how about a toy that just, I dunno, totally legitimately bypasses all that hard work?"

I remember a story that my juggling teacher told us once where he went to a toy store, saw a fushigi ball, and started doing contact juggling tricks. After the store owner asked how he did that he just acted surprised and was like "I don't know, man! The ball must be magic!"

I was still playing with Barbies during the transition from the rubber legs to the plastic ones and I was so mad when I got one with plastic for the first time because my barbies couldn't sit anymore without leg planking

One of my favorite things about doing stop motion is that its an excuse to more or less play with toys, just slower. Also bending barbie legs was so much fun

Skydancers unlocked a memory in my lizard brain. wow. I love this pivot you're doing into not just animation but talking and review videos, keep doing it, it's a delight

I remember having all the silly putty (proto gak?) get taken away bc it got dropped at some point, and ground into the carpet. I recall my dad sitting there for hours, carefully trying to scrape it free bc it was a rental. He ended up having to cut it out in the end

I didn't get a build-a-bear as a kid, but I have two now. I think it's largely about the experience. You pick the plush, maybe add sounds and a scent, choose a little heart shape, then fill it with stuffing. They do the filling but you press the on button. You can get cheaper plushies but you don't get the experience. If you're ever near one, have a look. I'm just sad the ones I want aren't sold in stores.

I had completely forgotten about roboraptors until watching this! I remember getting one for Christmas one year!! Ahhh, such nostalgia

I had the happy meal versions. But I really wanted the Roboraptor as a kid, but not bad enough where I was constantly asking my parents for one, I guess.

My little brother finally got the roboraptor for christmas after asking for one for several years, and collecting every little happymeal roboraptor he could find... and before new years he had gutted the thing bc he wanted to see how it worked. he would later go on to legorobotics, but we were all disappointed that roboraptor was no more. The next requested robot was a hard no

My sister and I had SkyDancers! I remember having a lot of fun with them, but only in short bursts. Because their arms are their wings and their legs are molded together, they couldn't move and 'act' like other toys we had (plastic dolls, stuffed animals, etc), so their storylines were limited. There was also a film about them, iirc, which was Meh.

I'm so glad I don't have kids to worry about the "gone by Christmas" toys. My parents are adamant webkinz mania was a real thing for like a hot two years.

I first watched Coraline right around when lalaloopsy dolls came out, so when my younger sister got into them I was Not a Fan. I eventually warmed up to them, and I think some of them have pretty cute designs!

I remember when i was around 4-6 years old, receiving my first and only Christmas present from santa (I'm Muslim and don't celebrate Christmas) at school and it was of a snow leapord cub that moved forward when you pressed it's back. it was the coolest thing I had. I also had the biggest crush on Diego from Go Diego Go, and would pretend to go on adventures with him lol. I've been trying to find the toy again but I don't know what its called 🥲 if anyone else remembers having something similar please reply!!

The only companies I remember making animatronic animals back then were Furreal Friends and Wowwee. Wowwee were the ones who made toys of wild animal cubs, so your baby snow leopard probably came from there if I had to guess.

Did you know that I used to collect Bratz dolls from 2021 to 2023? I stopped doing that because of my parents saying that I have to move on to something that is suitable for my age group. (I'm 20 now and these dolls are intended for 6-12 year old's)

I LOVE this. The two things I’ll say in defense of recent Barbies (as an adult collector with Cool Hobbies™️ who I suspect is about the same age as you, maybe a few years older) 1. - I love that they come in a wider variety of body types and are more diverse in general. They’re less white overall, and less marketed as a white girl toy. Additionally, the Barbie/Ken series that comes with their own wheelchair and support ramp was one of the best selling toys of the year a few years ago - I suspect this is partly because it was very inexpensive at 15 USD, came with a fully articulated doll, and kids love toys with mechanical accessories. Lots of the new dolls also have prosthetics, and take part in Paralympic sports. 2. - like someone else mentioned, they /do/ come in a full range of price points, and I suspect your sister was actually playing with 90’s Barbie from my early childhood if she still had rubber legs that clicked. By the 2000’s, she was already super stiff. I personally prefer the articulated, jointed dolls of today, because I remember the rubber leg dolls got weirdly dirty and stained really easily

IZ has a very special place in my heart for a strange reason... I had a small McDonald's version of the toy that I loved, but I could never remember the name (I knew it was an I and some other letter.) So in 2006 when my dad excitedly told me he got me a Wii for Christmas, I assumed it was one of these guys. (When I asked my dad if that's what it was, he just said it was even better, and that I'd see on Christmas... And, to be fair, he was right.) But because of that IZ and the Wii are permanently linked in my mind

this video gave me a violent sensory memory of putting chewed gum in the mouths of one of those biting dinosaurs, and then having to scrape and peel it out. I never got it all and the toy smelled minty forever more.

I have not thought about that matchbox haunted house in so many years, but i loved that thing. I wasn't a big fan of toy cars, but I was a huge fan of scooby-doo and I got the haunted house from goodwill for a birthday or christmas with a set of matchbox scooby-doo cars and that was just perfect for me.

We had (and still have) so many ub funkeys. But i dont think my siblings (i was too young to use the computer) ever played the game? Maybe they did, or maybe they just thought the figures were cool enough on their own. I was never into dolls or anything, but i remember wanting basically every robot animal in existence, I had like, 3 Idogs. Which are probably the most nostalgic toy i can think of.

Just got to the hot wheels bit. My siblings and I had one of the set with the lil boosty sections, and we'd just put cars on it until they crashed and flew everywhere at high speeds. Ah, early 2000s safety at its finest
