First season Sky showed La Liga was his year at Barca. Watching him every week as a kid was insane. One of my prized possessions was the Brazil shirt from 98 World Cup with his name & number, before it was common to be able to get shirts with printing. I still own it and I’m now 38!

Rants you need to watch the Van Nistelrooy interview on Rio’s channel and listen to the way he speaks about R9. When him and Cassano were at Madrid they said to R9 he would’ve won 7-8 ballon D’Ors if not for the injuries.

Thanks mate. Despite being a major R9 fan, I had never come across that interview. It lines so perfectly with those from Zidane and others, where its not just simple appreciation but you can see in these interviews, that even players like Zizou and RVN cannot fathom and are in awe of what he could do

Even people who played with him when he was past it raved about him. Capello had a falling out with him at Madrid over his weight issues & sold him but still said he’s by far the best player he’s ever managed.

@@madting3109 I guess some of you guys never got to see Maradona, Batistuta, Romario. To be honest, there was something very very Wrong with Ronaldo at world cup 98 (I think it was 98🤔), when they said he had "a seizure", or something. I reckon his drink was spiked. That world cup felt like it was rigged for France to win it, from the start! I'm still pissed off to this day! Bare dodgy ref decisions!!! 😤

I'm 37 and Ronaldo Fenomeno is the best player I've ever seen live and on TV. He was not human. I've seen this man humiliate great players like Maldini, Cafu, Cannavaro and Nesta. By 98 he reached God level. The only way to stop him was to get 4 or 5 players to repeatedly kick him, in an era where it was allowed without referee's punishment. Had he stayed fit and played in this era, he would have got 8 Ballon d'ors, 1000 goals and Lord knows how many more assists.

@@tyresedell8127 cr7 is clear in nothing except being a better goalscorer maybe, and even then Ronaldo had so many years chalked of his career due to the injuries. There’s a reason everyone refers to him as the original ronaldo. CR7 is a great goalscorer but that’s all he’ll ever be. He literally contributes nothing else within a game apart from being in the 18 yard box and scoring goals

R9 was a SS3 before rupturing his knee with inter in 99 (out for 2 years)...He was never truly the same again and it’s such a shame injuries destroyed him like that....CR7 can have all the numbers he wants but he is not on R9s level...How can anyone put him above R9? This guy was the definition of the perfect striker that everyone dreamed about emulating....He had all of the weapons/cheat codes (finish, dribble, close control in tight spaces, speed, strength, very high footballing IQ, positional awareness)....despite all of his adversaries he was still cooking oppositions and a joy to watch as a kid growing up....definitely in the top 3 goats for me....

Great video Rants. There is only one Ronaldo. One of the greatest strikers I have EVER seen in my life apart from Henry. I am so so grateful to have watched him live. I watched him live for every Brazil game, especially for the 2002 and 2006 World Cup. He was one of the main reasons why I couldn’t stop watching Brazil. He owned the 2002 tournament and the final itself. When he was overweight, he was still lethal in the 2006 World Cup and beyond that 🐐⚽️

The player I modelled myself on way back was Paolo Rossi..though I hated him in '82. Studying him taught me anticipation and movement were a striker's greatest assets. The things R9 did, I couldn't do..but I'll always be able to smash the ball hard from anywhere and score. Rants must do a Reacts to Gullit, Van Basten, Stoichkov, Savicevic...that Red Star team of '91..

Bruv, forget top five! He was the GOAT before injuries and STILL contended after 1.5 years of recovery. He was still killing pro defenders in his twilight with all the weight he gained do to his condition. Truly, IF he had the longevity of Cristiano and Messi... he would have beaten them solidly. period
